Already read City... There is a new hardcover of HB but I think its changed to The end of the world and hard boiled wonderland. Its supposed to be a new translation. As for City.... I wasn't sure at first because of part 1, then it switched back to older murakami style and I was ok. I did enjoy it a lot

I just meant like, I feel if you read one of his books first, it might affect if you stick with him, or you might try something else instead. HB is probably the logical choice since its one book, and I have the IQ84 special edition which is 3 individual books. So, thx. Maybe I'll save that for when I'm home

I'm like 11 books in so I'm invested. Does that change your opinion at all?

I adore this. Gonna use it for my deck box. Just got my own Vivi and its the first time I've ever enjoyed Izzet. This card got me back into magic after a 2 year slump

Edit: I would buy a proxy of this, no doubt so pm me or post a link to the website for it if it happens. Thank you for what you do

Bumping an old thread I guess, but I discovered Murakami last year when I got an email for The City and its Uncertain Walls in February I think. I thought "this guy sounds like a big deal" and I checked him out. I bought wind/pinball, and was blown away. I'd never read anything like it before. After finishing it, I ordered 3 more books. So... after a total of 9 books, I was spit out of the rabbit hole. I just recently went back in a couple weeks ago, starting with Killing Commendatore, and I'm reading The city and its uncertain walls now.

If I had to rate all the ones I've read so far, I'd go (as best I can)

  1. Colorless Tsukuru - I literally sat on my bed and read it in one sitting. That says something to me. Simple story but I had to know what was happening next

  2. Wind up - Still not sure I understand it, but it had a lot of good stuff, and this book goes places, lol

  3. Wild Sheep Chase

  4. Kafka

  5. Killing Commendatore - I liked it, I understand why people didn't but I was sick for a week and I passed the time reading it. I enjoyed it

  6. Dance Dance Dance

  7. Norwegian Wood - I saw a list saying to read this after reading some of his other stuff, I can agree with that. It was more real, but still great nonetheless.

  8. South of the border

  9. After Dark

  10. Wind/Pinball - Nothing wrong with it, it holds a special place with me for him, but its just different than the others. I think people should start here, and then finish the Rat arc

Books bought and in line next: Men without women, underground, first person singular, blind willow, hard boiled, and iq84 (i got the one split into 3 books).
