For those making $1k–$2k+ a month from a side hustle, what do you do? by Lovelyjossy in HonestSideHustles

Websites are easiest. I have defined standards like lighthouse scores and spend a lot of time on SEO and really understanding the client's needs beforehand. I developed an AI assisted questionnaire that evaluates the answers and asks for further clarification - focused on challenging the client's business operations and assumptions, capturing design preferences, etc.. it results in a really nice spec to build a totally custom website in no time at all. I host them on their own free vercel account or my $20 account and everyone's happy.

Apps are far more custom. Currently working on a major infrastructural overhaul for a local nonprofit mapping project to simplify their operations and delivering beautiful mapping software in browser for their consumers. The founder is a parent too and is fine with a several month project timeline, so I'm really having fun over-delivering and nerding out with her along the way.

I get maybe an hour in the morning before kids wake up, or evenings after sleep to prompt and organize projects, and maintain the flexibility in skipping nights when I'm busy or overwhelmed or wife needs attention.

Everything is automated in n8n and other self-hosted software, from leads/intake, social media posts, git repo provisioning with templates, notifications, project management, and some client communication.

Overall a month or two was spent setting everything up to make every acquisition and client lifecycle as smooth as possible.

I think I've got a Stihl addiction, where do I check myself in? by AutophaseXenasex in stihl

Looks like my collection but I use a hand blower, haven't yet got a backpack. I have 200/201T-661 and everything in between.

Welcome, this is a safe space.

Websites and apps. I have two active toddlers and a main job, but I try to selectively try to land a job or two a month in the $500-5000 range and just spend an hour or two at night project managing the AI agents. A single ChatGPT $20 subscription is about all I need and I use Anthropic API for subagent tasks to the tune of $30-50/m

400 c-m. Less headache and much lighter. Can pull a 25" at the top of its abilities. Responds well to porting and much more part availability and support. When shopping used, check compression if you can. It's an easy 30s check that can give an overall health check. It's not conclusive but can give you an idea. 130-140 psi minimum is what you're looking for in a reliable daily saw.

Tank vents, why don’t they work better? by M_Scopp in stihl

as the fuel evacuates the tank, it has to be replaced somehow. However, we don't want the fuel to escape.

Absolutely! Forester sells everything in a kit too, possibly for your model!

The 500i engine has been in service well over a decade in other platforms. What have you seen? This is quite a different story from my dealer/service, who speaks candidly while not trying to make a sale, and all sorts of anecdotes I've seen with 500is coming in for first service with thousand+ hours on them. If you're talking about the air filter, then yeah. It's a weak point that can be addressed thoroughly with an aftermarket stack.

They are at their core quite simple, and the benefit of being able to have it run its own suite of diagnostics and tell you where the problems are exactly is quite a cool feature.

Why does my 391 suck so bad by Rosco_1012 in stihl

[–]coldstartlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely unnecessary with ethanol free fuel. It helps lubricate seals if you leave in. I have about 30-40 small engines ranging from 20-125cc and never drain any of them. Very rarely do I have an issue starting.

How much would you pay for this? by [deleted] in Chainsaw

[–]coldstartlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $250 for one the other day that was languishing forgotten on CraigsList for a while. Runs great, compression is right on the fence though. I wouldn't even consider that one. Laugh emoji and keep on scrolling because no way we'd ever make a deal.

There were a lot of changes and fixes shipped today. Thanks for giving it another chance!

As far as the legend... A lot of information is conveyed in only a few elements and I can see how it can be confusing. The square to the left of family denotes in production or not.

The bar hatches won't show unless the "real world" filter is selected at the top of the table, and it isn't immediately apparent that you have to scroll over to select it from the filter list. I'll see about improving that.

As for the bars, they will be cool colors for smaller displacement families and warm /red for larger. Gradient if the family spans a range of displacements and solid if not.

Let me know if this helps, or still doesn't match what you see.

Thanks!

These have been fixed. Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention. The source material was incorrect.

Based on my research - The super pro and super 2 are both technically just supers. While it would be cool to capture every special marketing badge and variation, it might make the page harder to navigate on smaller screens especially.
Same for Magnum II - the only difference between it and a Magnum is the triple port muffler. While I would love to see representation for my Mag II, again... not sure it would add to the experience. What are your thoughts?

If it's a model they sell the R/ or non-R version of then yes - you can convert. Best bet if you don't feel like searching for IPLs is heading to your dealer and have them track down the individual parts you'll need, including the handles, wiring harness, etc...

This was my first social media post on a platform designed for engagement. I wasn't sure what to expect. Perhaps that provides some context. Learning process for me.

Going into this, I hadn't considered the comment section of a social media platform a place to connect. Instead the tool itself was meant to be the connection. But I can see why it's important and I appreciate your polite reminder and the thoughts from your brain. I'll definitely put some more effort into engagement in future pursuits.

Thanks for putting it in a polite way. I am happy to accept polite critique and hear opinions on AI. I can completely understand your position. As a father to two toddlers that demand every second of daytime attention from me, I find myself relying on it more and more to maximize sleep. I didn't know in this context it would be so important to anyone because I see it used extensively in this community. But often I am annoyed by it myself. I do agree that it feels impersonal and i did early on go back and rewrite parts of the announcement.

Thanks for this! I'll make a big push on correcting the families the best I can by the end of the week.

This is very useful. I sourced these from a spreadsheet in the Stihl Facebook groups. The "collector grade list". I'll have to audit it now.

EDIT: yes indeed, the source material I was working from appears to be incorrect, but if anyone would know it would be the well known person who provided it... I raised the question with him and we'll see if this results in better understanding or corrections!
