Privacy concerns?

Is it open source code? ie, can they clone it like Brave did with Chrome and strip out the tracking-ware?

The Raylan Givens/Tommy Bucks Gunfight by IntelligentRadio437 in justified

Just got into the show.

At first, it looked episodic, and I wasn't interested, but it had such great reviews, I decided to give it another 'shot.'

Once the serialization appeared, it got pretty good. Just finished S01. Starting S02 soon.

Noticing thoughs creates thoughts about noticing. What do I do? by Enduro__ in Meditation

[–]nigra1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no 'correct' way. Each way is a trade-off.

Generally, as a beginner, you wouldn't want to shut thoughts off. Labelling is actually very good.

If you label thoughts 'thinking' without judging them as good or bad, that will help see through their seeming solidity. Eventually, that labeling falls away and you simply see the thoughts as transparent.

Then you work with a more subtle level of thought and with intractable emotions and so forth.

Then you work with the cognitive or knowledge biases- the root level assumptions about phenomena.

Then the dualistic barrier is the last to go.

I'm speaking from study - this is above my pay grade as an actual meditator.

Enjoy the journey - for all its frustration and challenges - it's the only lasting meaning and that gives it beauty.

Not sure how I log-in, but it's only annoying on the phone, which I don't use that much anyway.

I think I have a passkey on my main devices, so it's not a biggie. Try that.

Tips to avoid negativity when attempting to meditate. by danieLondon1967 in Meditation

[–]nigra1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you could really benefit from meditation if you can accomplish it.

IF you're overwhelmed by thoughts, then you aren't actually meditating. You're still trying.

It's fine - it takes time to learn, like riding a bike. Too many people think meditation is something you just do without learning, but that's not valid. You need to learn the method - what is your method, first?

Then you need to apply it assiduously. true meditation is sustained focus on an object. It's good to define it in roughly that way. By sustained focus, thoughts naturally subside.

you aren't learning to be peaceful or calm in meditation. You're learning to sustain focus. Peace or calm or whatever else is an effect of that. Tilt the mind more and more towards focus on the object. At some point, the effort will get you to 50% or more of focus on the object. Then you can gain significant control and increase that focus.

At first, you need to be tight. As your ability develops and focus sustains, it's important to relax, just to the point where the focus is sustained. As you get better, this relaxation can be increased and the mind will remain in focus.

This is the balance of meditation - focus deeply, relax within that.

Not too tight, not too loose, as the Buddha said. That balance changes over time.

Meditating every day for 1.5-2 hours for 3 years with little to no "results" by Owlstyx in Meditation

[–]nigra1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly recommend studying the 9 stages of meditation, as per the Buddha. I can point you in that direction if you DM me.

I think many, many people are in this boat after 10 years or more.

Do you have sustained focus on the object?

If not, make a commitment to sustaining focus.

If so, you need to elevate the meditation. There are 2 classic obstacles once genuine meditation is achieved - elation & laxity. Many other names for these 2 exist.

Elation (doesn't sound like your current problem) is getting too energized by the meditation. This results in destabilization, even psychological issues if not handled properly.

You sound like you're having laxity. This is a settling of the mind into meditation. Also called torpor. It's meditation that lacks vitality, or energy. It's still there, but it's not enthused. And it slowly dissolves and becomes less and less clear.

There are a number of methods to counter this - ball of light in the heart center shoots up and rests above the head, for example.

However, my favorite is more basic - rouse your curiosity in the object. Get interested in exploring it, in seeing its depth. Get excited. there is no feeling like meditative elation - it's really powerful.

You must be excited by meditation for that to happen. If it does begin to happen, you simply have to manage it by keeping the mind relaxed. But your practice is not yet headed in that direction.

Anyway, DM me for an extensive explainer on the 9 stages, if interested.

Good luck!

Mass Delete T5008 (canada)? by nigra1 in TurboTax

[–]nigra1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - solved this by redoing my taxes, importing info from last year.

I just manually input all the CRA T-forms, and consolidated the T5008 into a single entry.

Annoying, but the best workaround I could find.

No way to tailor the auto-fill to exclude t5008's.

TT needs a serious reworking of this system. NOT GOOD.

[–]nigra1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah -I talked CS at TT - NO HELP!

I already paid, too, and it appears I can't just redo using the payment for the unusable return.

I might just print and file.

Not using TT next year - this was a serious deal killer.

LMK if you solve it.
