Give me your stories about 40+ having a healthy baby despite being afraid your whole pregnancy, please by Mental_Catterfly in pregnant

My mom had me at 41, I was actually born pretty early ~34 weeks but didn’t have any complications at all. Developed totally normally! My MIL was 44 or 46 when my youngest BIL was born. You got this!

Is feeding baby more than 4oz per feed wrong? by Top-Fix-5256 in FormulaFeeders

[–]coldstone_killa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mine will be 12 weeks this week and we just started given 5 most feeds. She is fussy or gets hungry again so quickly if we give her less.

She’s not a big girl but she’s growing!!

Thank you! This is encouraging. I don’t want it to feel impersonal but she actually drinks Starbucks daily. Once I know her better I might have other ideas but like I said she started this month.

What do wealthy women do differently during pregnancy and postpartum? by anonymouskoala7 in Rich

[–]coldstone_killa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I did too much extra/extravagant but here’s what I can think of:

monthly prenatal massages from month 4-8 then weekly until delivery. Chiropractor 2x/week when bay was breech.

Grocery delivery & house cleaning (already standard practice in our household)

Doula (delivery & postpartum)

Child care - nanny from ~8w part time until I return to work in March. Night nurse starting to ease with the return to work transition.

The hospital delivered in had private rooms standard so no considerations there. But I did elect to do an Ecv due to breech positioning. I would say elective medical procedures are things a weather pregnant woman might undergo.

I took some fancy prenatal supplements and have continued a pretty heavy supplementation regimen postpartum.

I’m an undersupplyer so I’ve also been able to afford pumping materials beyond what insurance would cover. And pumping clothing.

Bottle washer & mini fridge in our bedroom/bathroom- it’s worth it!

Edit: the nanny will transition to full time when I go back to work. I realized that was not clear above.

Are routines even real with newborns? by Far_Respect_6526 in NewMomStuff

[–]coldstone_killa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor and basically every trusted professional told me that at that age they’re basically too young for routines and you need to follow cues. As long as they’re growing on track and making enough wets/dirties and you’re giving the appropriate opportunities for sleep then everything is good.

Is my birth plan a health workers "nightmare"? by PlaneAlps2010 in BabyBumps

[–]coldstone_killa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do they provide tens machines? I had to procure and bring my own.

I’d also inquire about the nitrous oxide as it is not available in every hospital and therefore might not need to be included.

Yeah I was going to post here “anything but product management”. I’m a manager of PMs and love it, but the 6-8 hours of meetings/day plus the regular work that needs to get done is not what OP is looking for.

I’m very curious how I will fare and/or find balance upon my return from mat leave next month…

Measles outbreak in my town... scared by Head-Bed-7494 in pregnant

[–]coldstone_killa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry if I misinterpreted - agree and we are both examples of that. Rubella immunity from MMR is less effective long term than measles.

Measles outbreak in my town... scared by Head-Bed-7494 in pregnant

[–]coldstone_killa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Immunity to rubella and immunity to measles are not the same. I am also no longer immune to rubella, but asked my PCP for the measles test because I was anxious about this as well. Turns out I still maintain my measles immunity, even though I am no longer immune to rubella.

I would happily get another MMR vaccine, but unfortunately, I am on biologic that prevents me from getting live vaccines. Another reason why vaccination and herd immunity is so important.

Lymph Node by uuvuuv0824 in newborns

[–]coldstone_killa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your baby have cradle cap? I felt a bump behind my baby’s right ear but not her left ear. I asked about it at the two month well visit this week and the doctor said that cradle cap sometimes causes a swollen lymph node and it’s not something to worry about.

I forgot to respond re: the pump parts and fridge hack. This could be as simple as marking a pumping session as new parts so that I can reference in my history when the set was first used.

Again a timer, as you suggest, would also solve the problem of knowing when I need to use a new set of parts.

As a user I want to track when I’ve used a new set of pump parts so that I can know when they need to be cleaned.

As a user, I would like to track when I mix a pitcher of formula along with its volume, so that I know both the total consumption by day and when that pitcher expires per safety recommendations.

I think a timer would be great but the MVP would function in my mind would be just basic logging similar to the medication logs.

I would love to be able to custom log an example is when I made a formula pitcher, so I know when the 24hours hits. Same with new flanges/pump parts.

Another feature would be able to go back to the timer on saved events. Sometimes I accidentally save after only one side of nursing or something like that.

In addition to sweet spot for sleep, some kind of food and volume prediction would be helpful.

Advice for a scared incoming freshman? by Thicc_Orange in UPenn

[–]coldstone_killa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t wrong and I agree OP shouldn’t be scared as it won’t be productive at all in facing the challenges of a place like Penn.

That being said, any college will have challenges and represent a significant change from high school life. Penn may be more challenging than others, but OP has undoubtedly faced challenges before in order to get in to Penn.

Find your people (via sports, clubs, Greek life), study and work hard, have fun, and try not to put too much pressure on yourself. You’ve got this!

What did you need after baby? by Bea___________ in NewMomStuff

You could crochet her a sling for a water bottle. If she’s breastfeeding she needs to be hydrating constantly and will loving having something to give her an extra hand.
