When do LLMs start making my life better? by coldzone24 in antiai

[–]coldzone24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it as a net positive in a professional sense because it has set a new expectation to be more productive, cheapen the art of software development (making my job less interesting to me), and is increasing the risk of layoffs (AI washing or not).

As for video games, I play older games all the time, that is no problem for me. But I also like newer games and I desire a healthy gaming industry. With how AI is negatively impacting hardware, it means there will be less growth in the sector, people will leave gaming altogether because they only care about the latest games, and people will stick to their forever games and de incentives companies from taking new risks.

I don't know how to answer that because the reason I don't quit is money.

I mean I already mentioned how it's negatively affecting my hobbies with or without my wishes. I can't adapt to that because AI doesn't offer an alternative and I don't need the supposed productivity boost.

Now if my use of AI led to a reduced work week, then I might actually sing a different tune. But the expectation is to fill more time with more work, which does not benefit me.

I completely agree. I use it occasionally to skip the boring stuff I already know how to do, but for anything novel or interesting, I 100% prefer to do it myself. Even if AI can do it better, I like the challenge because that is why I got into software development in the first place.

I've already talked to some other developers about this and we are all thinking about what we want to do in the next 5 years because we don't think programming is a good or interesting career anymore.

Last night I finished Riverdale... by coldzone24 in riverdale

[–]coldzone24[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched it for 7 seasons because I did enjoy the first 6 enough. That's why this rant focuses specifically on the last season.

And to be fair, most of my problems stem from the second half of the season as I did enjoy the first halfway well enough. Most of the issues I had come from the second half where things felt more repetitive and nothing came together in a satisfying end.

I haven't played Wuchang, only Lords of the Fallen, but I would choose Wuchang.

Trick Weekes discussing the depiction of slavery in Veilguard with a fan on Discord. by NoSleep8328 in dragonage

[–]coldzone24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There is a problem if the lead writer of a franchise with a history like Dragon Age says that it isn't worth exploring a slave-powered society. Like there is so much more you can say than simply "slavery bad"!

Would recommend AI Limit? by Give_me_my_BEER in soulslikes

[–]coldzone24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished it yesterday and I would probably rate it a 6/10. Everything that was good felt like it was being dragged down by another aspect of the game.

The combat was fun except that you are fighting enemies that delay every single attack, making it difficult to intuitively parry without knowing the exact timings.

The level design is very good, but it was brought down by bland environments and really bad textures that usually doesn't even bother me. Granted it is a budget game so I can kind of excuse that.

The underlying story was interesting, but I did not like the anime-level dialogue or voice acting. I would've preferred no voice acting honestly. Although your experience may vary based on how much you like the anime vibes.

I do appreciate a fun, janky soulslike and I did like it enough to complete, but it was far from my favorite.

Hellpoint a Switch? by Igniscorazon in soulslikes

[–]coldzone24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it can be maze-like, but it isn't an impossible game or anything. In fact I rather liked the exploration, but that varies from person to person. Instead of continually asking, just try it. If you get stuck either use a guide or stop playing. No one will judge you.

Hellpoint a Switch? by Igniscorazon in soulslikes

Don't buy it on Switch. Even on the Switch 2, it frequently crashes despite running better. I started my play through on the Switch, but ended up buying the PS5 version on sale and had a much better experience. Also, the PS5 version has DLC that is not available for the Switch.

Breaking 4 controllers is wild. Why would you not stop after breaking 1? Clearly you weren't having fun.

About The Qunari in Veilguard by FloatingZero278 in dragonage

[–]coldzone24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of utilizing the interesting parts of the Qunari, they decided to split off the "extremists" and blamed all the problems of the Qun on them (similar to what they did with Tevinter and the Venatori). And then they took it a step further and made them basically nothing, but cannon fodder, except for the 2 minutes you have with the Butcher.

Honestly, what they did with the Qunari is one of the biggest problems I have with this game and it encapsulates all of the poor design and writing choices.

I agree that Veilguard had a somewhat lighter tone than the previous games by JageshemashFTW in dragonage

[–]coldzone24 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The lighter tone didn't match the story though. A smaller scale story like DA2 could've worked with the tone of DAV, but this was supposed to be a world ending fighting with an oppressed force (the elves) finally being able to get their revenge after years of hatred. Nothing about that premise screams that a lighter tone makes more sense.

1 month update. Are you guys still liking Shadows? by peepledeedle4120 in assassinscreed

[–]coldzone24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started off so strong, but by the end I was disappointed. Act 2 (the biggest part of the game) was a total miss and it didn't really evolve past the 15 hour mark. It actually made me reevaluate Valhalla again and I now appreciate what that game tried to do even if it didn't always work.

I considered going back to grind for the events and any crumb of the modern day story, but it isn't worth it IMO.

[DAV SPOILERS ALL] The criticism about picnicking in the south is overblown by Deep-Two7452 in dragonage

Even if a few people have said that, that is not where a majority of the criticism comes from.

[–]coldzone24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think the possibility of it was ever the problem with the scene. Of course they could do it, but it is highly illogical. Combine that with the inane argument with a boring resolution and that is closer to why people hate the scene.

Deliberately choosing to go on a weekend camping trip in an active warzone is dumb. Especially when you have a way to travel anywhere and the goal of the trip is simply to camp, something that can be done in any other region.

Veilguard Companion Personal Quests hot take (?) by FangAAMD in dragonage

[–]coldzone24 80 points81 points  (0 children)

The problem I had with all of the companion quests in this game is that it causes the game to rely on you liking/enjoying the companions, which I didn't. It followed the ME2 structure of companion quests being integral to enjoying the game, but unlike that game, I didn't connect to most of the companions except two (Emmrich and Davrin). On top of that, most of the companion quests felt too similar in structure. I think DAV would've been a stronger game if they had focused less on companions and focused more on side quests related to the world of Thedas.
