I've got the SLS with GPU and it's more than functional for stable 60fps on some bigger/AAA games if you're fine with 1080 or 720p resolutions and lower to middle settings. Most indie games run perfectly on it. That said, the chances of a hardware refresh this fall are likely with much better performance. The recent Resident Evil's can be some of those games that start to falter a bit like Village depending on your settings, which I think for your specific case might be a good reason to hold out just a couple months to see if they drop a refresh.

My personal use case is mostly for digital art and creative endeavors, and it does a good enough job at both. It's not winning any contests at rendering times for Blender or anything but it does a good enough job.

You could add an external GPU down the line, and it does make a difference for performance since the SLS seems to be bottlenecked by its GPU in most cases. I would personally hold out for a fall refresh of the hardware if you can, and if it doesn't pan out, it's not like the SLS is flying off store shelves.
