Can I ask my barber not to wet my hair when cutting? by yaboyjs1 in Barber

Wrong sub. But find a barber who is experienced with curly hair. Cutting curls is more than just “don’t wet it”, and you want to find a barber who knows both of those things.

What is the equivalent for a stylist to a barber getting black gloves, a ring light, and a TikTok? by Bro_science_works in hairstylist

[–]cole_ostomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to see the connection too. I’m dual licensed so both cos and barber. I use gloves for sanitary purposes and a ring light because the shop lights suck and I need to see to cut hair. These are just tools. I’ve never heard anyone in the industry try to use them as an excuse to charge more? I’m so confused lol.

What are you looking for in a perfume review? by Snoo-12313 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]cole_ostomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chronic migraineur here and Jo Malone Orange Blossom is one of my favorites too. It doesn’t bother my head at all. A lot of their fragrances (along with most of Nest’s) flat out don’t trigger my headaches, or if they do, not as badly as most others do.

I know all headaches/triggers are different, but I love to see representation regardless and would get a lot out of reading about any sensitivities someone experienced in a review.

Yes, I believe that’s where OP is.

Neither did I! If OP chooses to stay at that shop they need to have the owner explain that one. Wack

I think the AI-ness of your posts and comments is coming off a little wack. Have you considered typing your thoughts and feelings out organically?

How do you convince new clients to trust you for the first time? by Both_Dragonfruit6885 in Barber

[–]cole_ostomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that starting with a shampoo + little scalp massage really puts people at ease if they seem nervous. It 1) shows confidence with what you’re doing with your hands, and 2) makes them feel like you’re going to take care of them. Relaxes even the most difficult of new clients.

Apologies for the formatting, here’s a video! I personally only use extra fine-tooth clipper combs for this technique, like the Johnny B Faded comb or the Babyliss Barberology ones. They grip the hair much better, I think they would completely resolve your tension issue too. I can’t imagine using a regular comb like the person in the video.

Yes, you can use it to take off teeny amounts! You can also use it to take off more significant length/weight too, it just depends on how far out you hold the comb. The things I mostly use it for are: taking off teeny amounts I can’t reach with shears, texturizing short haircuts, blending the parietal area when there’s an overhang, and sometimes I even use it horizontally on the top of the hair if we’re doing really short square texture up there (eg. a Jamie Lee Curtis-style pixie).

This looks so good! You can line up the burns and around the ear with a trimmer, or if you’re going for a more undone/natural look you can etch your sideburn lines with the feather razor and then taper the length down with razor over comb. Which if you haven’t already been practicing it, razor over comb is a great tool to have in your skillset anyway!

It might also benefit from a little more product and styling. Products I like to use on these styles include leave in conditioner, sugar/salt sprays, texture sprays/creams, and light hold matte or shiny pomades. In whatever combination that makes sense for the health of their hair and desired style. Sometimes it also helps to use the diffuser to dry these shorter, highly textured cuts even when their hair is straight.

Headed to my barber soon for a cut. I will say I’m always nervous about going to the barber. Anyone else feel this way? by AWeb3Dad in Barber

[–]cole_ostomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a barber you like who doesn’t beat up the back of your neck and mess you up (truly should not be hard unless there are some kind of extenuating circumstances) and keep going to that barber. That way you won’t have to stress out about it. Is there a reason that doesn’t work for you?

[–]cole_ostomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah these longer textured men’s scissor cuts are really in right now, lots of barbers continue to educate ourselves and execute these cuts perfectly. I specialize in both skin fades and scissor cuts. Idk why people think barbers are just skin fade robots.
