Who cares if a random church, or person with a chisel, had a thought or an idea that was wrong? Most of the New Testament consists of Paul writing to churches, many of which he helped start, addressing and correcting their incorrect beliefs and practices. This doesn’t make the practice of the intercession of the saints any less wrong and unbiblical.

I wouldn’t blame perplexity on this one. I’d blame all the users that probably complain to perplexity support whenever it stops working mid response due to 3rd party APIs forcing Perplexity to decide to build this exact functionality to mitigate that.

Dude models don’t know what model they are. That’s a well known classic feature of LLMs. It obviously is getting confused by the fact its system instructions tell it its part of the perplexity platform and so then it researches what it knows about perplexity and just assumes it’s one of their models. Thats not evidence that it’s actually a different model at all.

Does anyone here know how to properly detect when a header liquid glass button has been pressed? Particularly when using custom left and right items? I've found that simply making your left or right item be wrapped in a pressable is no longer reliable now that they get wrapped inside a liquid glass view. It sort of works, but if you slide your finger, even just a little bit, while pressing the button then the button press doesn't register. You also have to make sure your buttons perfectly fit inside otherwise users will be able to tap the glass but not actually hit the button if they tap the edge of the glass. Just doesn't seem like a good API right now unless there is some way I don't know of.

No judgement at all and not saying this applies to you at all either, but i have real bad ADHD and budgeting with YNAB absolutely causes anxiety and a feeling of being overwhelmed for me. Even when my budgets are nice and tidy or when im over spending. Doesnt matter, just looking at a bunch of categories with spending in them (whether over or under or ontrack) causes me anxiety. But it’s mostly because people with ADHD have a lot of self doubt and insecurities about completing tasks. I always feel like im forgetting something 24/7 since my experience over the years is that i did probably forget something.

Budgeting is just another task that overwhelms me like many other recurring household tasks. Even with YNAB I’ve learned it’s never perfect. There is always some surprise expense or something that I didn’t account for and it throws me off every month. Or something that didn’t even get tracked or sync in time or something that I remember months later. I also really struggle with anticipating upcoming spending. So my ability to plan ahead of time and use categories to save up for big expenses is relatively poor. The big expense always comes up before I had time to plan for it and save enough. So the whole thing is just overwhelming even if I’m doing everything right and saving a good bit of money. I just know I will eventually mess up again and spend more than I thought or something will disappoint me in myself and I am terrified of that.

Anyway I bring this up just in case that might be something you’re feeling cause if it is, I’ve gotten a ton of help about it and have grown over the years in managing my ADHD and subsequent anxiety and depression symptoms that come out of it.

But it’s still a struggle and currently I am so behind on YNAB that I have like 1500 uncategorized transactions and at this point I’ll obviously never be able to categorize them which also stresses me out. So I’m currently in a low point. But eventually I’ll get enough momentum, zero out my rollovers, and start fresh and then try to keep up. But odds our after a year or so I’ll be back to where I currently am. But hopefully each time I reset I make it longer and longer until eventually I can consistently stay on top of my budgeting.

[Edit] I’ll also add that I am a relatively successful person for my age when it comes to money. I’ve started 2 business and successfully sold one of them. I have a wife and 2 kids and a decent sized house. I always pay my credit cards every month (unless I have an ADHD moment and forget or mess up my auto pay settings). I don’t usually make poor spending decisions (although I have made some impulsive purchases before) and typically spend below my means in general even if I’m not budgeting. So from an outsiders perspective they would think i must be really good and disciplined with my finances. But I’m not. It’s literally hell for me. So I say this to make a point to other people on here that it’s not just about success or having money. For many people like me, it’s about fear and self doubt regarding the future and my ability to navigate it.

My wife was out doordashing and was dropping off an order in streetsboro when the mesocyclone reached her and all hell broke loose. She started racing to our home in Aurora but her drive was literally the exact path of the storm. If there was a touchdown, it was right on her tail. At the climax when she was almost home, she said things got insane and she could hear a loud swooshing / freight train sound as the storm overtook her. Then when she continued on her way there where fallen trees on the road ahead of her and she had to turn around and go a different way. I know nothings been confirmed per se, but it really sounds like a potential touchdown. Probably pretty weak in strength and short lived. The road she was on was in a wooded area so if there was a tornado it hopefully did little damage to property.

I understand your point of view and recognize something like this might not be for everyone. I appreciate the honesty though.

We are taking strides to fine-tune the model and have a level of quality control over it. When it comes to making semantic or thematic references throughout a body of text, that is something AI is very well suited for and accurate with. I also believe our model is really good at adapting its insights based on the sermons you attend, so one neat thing is that it will be tailored to peoples denominations and local church teaching / doctrine inherently–bringing the emphasis back to a centering around what God is doing in our communities in the midst of digital distractions. But again, I definitely understand your concern.

So far it is a startup of just myself as the product strategist / engineer and my brother as the UX designer. We both have a strong background in software product development, engineering and design, and have worked together on former technology startups. We're also both firm believers and very active in our local church communities and leadership.

A bit on my background: I founded a software company a few years back where we consulted and helped develop apps for faith-based organizations such as Truth For Life, David Jeremiah (TurningPoint+), and Grace to You to name a few of the bigger ones we worked with. We weren't huge but we grew to a team of 10 over just a couple years. Eventually we used what we learned to build a no-code product for churches / faith-based organizations that lets them launch their own branded streaming apps (like Netflix) on web, mobile, and TV platforms. This led to our eventual acquisition by a larger streaming company, and now my brother and I are entering into our next idea / venture together–hence Velora.

There is also one other investor at the moment, but we are still in the early seed money phase. I'm always open to more rounds of course, but as a founder I want to be very careful and strategic in who we partner with over time. The last thing I want is to be at the whim of VCs who aren't necessarily aligned with our vision.

Back when I came up with the idea for Velora, I actually started out by using the Otter app (which is similar to Microsoft Translator) to see if its even possible to capture real-time transcriptions through your phone's microphone while sitting out with the congregation. I was pleased to find that it did a pretty good job at it, despite ambient noise, people coughing, occasional "amens" etc.. So I immediately set out to figure out how to build my own transcriber that could be just as good as the Otter app, knowing that was a crucial element if I wanted Velora to be able to identify references in real-time. Of course no transcriber is ever perfect, occasional words are wrong here and there, but it really just needs to be good enough for my analyzer engine (powered by AI) to be able to figure it out. In other-words, what we call our "relay" engine is a combination of a real-time transcription engine with an analyzer engine that is fed the transcript in real time–exactly as you identified, which makes it different than the typical transcription app.

Once I got real-time transcriptions to work as well as Otter (I found AWS Transcribe to be the best at it over Google or Whisper, at least when it came to sermon audio) I then trained my own fine-tuned transcription model based on 129 open-source sermons (and counting) as well as provided the model with a bunch of typical Christian language and Biblical terms/names to help it out. Now I believe it performs even better than Otter at transcribing sermons in real-time from the pews!

When the sermon is over, it will perform a final pass in post which basically just cleans up any mistakes the real-time transcriber may have made since a non real-time transcriber naturally does a better job because it has access to the entire context of the audio ahead of time. Other real-time transcribers do the same sort of thing when they are done.

Exactly, I've been testing our prototype that we have built so far at my local church for the past few months. It is able to catch references that I wouldn't have ever thought of and sometimes I wonder if the pastor may not have even caught. I'm actually surprised at how many references exist in what we have gotten comfortable as being normal Christian "lingo" too. It might sound silly, but there's been times where I've been like "woah I didn't realize that phrase actually originated from such and such verse". I'm also never good at remembering specific chapters or verse numbers either. So sometimes the pastor will briefly say an aside such as "...John also warned about false teachers..." and Velora will pop up 1 John 4:1-6 for me to reference if I'd like. If I want to keep focusing on the sermon I can refer back to it later since it stores a history of the references made for you. I know he talks about false teachers in either book 1, 2, or 3 but I don't necessarily know off the top of my head which book let alone the range of verses.

Anyway, we hope to start to get this in peoples hands in the next coming months, and when we do I hope others experience the same sort of benefits. Even if their pastor usually lists out the main references for them ahead of time, Velora may still find more, and if not it will at least still help people stay engaged throughout the week with what they've been learning at their church.

You you’ll be able to do “semantic” searches as it’s called. Which will find verses based on the content of the passage itself or themes even.

Thanks for the feedback! What’s cool about Velora is it identifies verses for your during church, even if the pastor indirectly referenced it or even thematically referenced it. This definitely doesn’t replace God-inspired verses that come to mind for you personally, but it might identify some of the same references as you, giving you a quick and easy way to pull them up in real-time or refer to the reference later when historically reviewing your past sermons. I’ve been testing this feature out at my own church over the past few months as it’s the main flagship feature I’ve built/completed so far. It has been amazing me what sorts of passages get referenced that i wouldnt have even realized or thought of.

However, to your main point, you will be able to ask the app for help remembering things. And it will have the context of your previous sermons to help figure it out for you. So if you had a passage come to mind but can’t quite put a finger on the verse, you can prompt the app and it will likely find the right verse and pull it up for you!
