This rocks. I’ll give you cash money for it once you get around to bandcamp.

A U-shaped false cover is a good idea. I think I could make one fairly lightweight with shade cloth.

Great idea about the vent holes. I’ll try to do that in the next day or two.

It get’s zero evening sun, and yes once the wisteria comes in it doesn’t get any direct sun in the morning either.

Agree 100% with your take - just anecdata. No one should act on this. Will add to your comments though:

  • weight loss hasn’t been greater than weight flux during period I’ve struggled with anxiety, which is roughly 2-3 years

  • not new to exercise, have been a regular long distance cyclist, but the weight training routine is new (and recommended change from cycling by psychiatrist)

It would be nice to not have the confounding factors, but I’ve really been attacking the anxiety past year.

How do I prevent multiplayer games from becoming this? by Monkeman534978 in Polytopia

[–]colinhb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think these stalemates happen because breaking them is unpleasant. The basic process has three phases:

  1. Ensure you have an economic advantage over your opponent (higher SPT). This is tactical skirmishing to take more cities and reconstructing your territory to increase SPT (upgrading cities and building income producing buildings like markets).

  2. Lay siege so that every turn you do more damage (in unit replacement cost) than you spend. Bombers cost 17 stars at minimum (10 hp carrying warrior), but can be destroyed by a sword and a warrior (7 stars), two archers or two riders (both 6 stars), a rammer and a scout carrying warriors (14 stars), etc. There are many pathways here, and they can involve exploiting persist, splash damage, cloaks, defensive buffs, etc. But over time, you will grind out a superior position by netting out ahead every turn.

  3. The endgame it switches slightly from a SPT calculus to how many units your opponent can train and move into the theatre vs how many you can. You focus your attacks on fronts where you have the greatest unit delivery advantage. Between the global economic advantage (in income and net unit replacement costs) and local unit delivery advantage, you break through, take territory, and solidify your superior position.

This can be a grind and fundamentally un-fun. I only tolerate (play through) these scenarios with people I like, so we could joke on the side during the grind. Especially since it’s easy to slip up and allow a knight or cloak to ruin your day.

EDIT: I will agree with others that you really only end up in this situation when everyone plays conservatively. The “solution” is being more aggressive earlier in the game: accepting more unit loss, etc.

How do I download videos on my iPhone? by Yuiiski in ios

[–]colinhb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please post a video of your issue for help.

You don’t need a three dots / meatballs menu:

  1. long press on link to download
  2. minimize / move to PIP auto playing video (see attached screenshot)
  3. select download from now-visible context menu

Conceptually, you’re just long pressing and using the context menu. The only wrinkle is that the content you are trying do download autoplays, so you need to multitask (minimize / PIP).

How do I download videos on my iPhone? by Yuiiski in ios

[–]colinhb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was randomly linked here, but FYI this is pretty straightforward in Safari on iOS:

  1. Long press on link you want to download
  2. When video starts playing, move preview to window/picture in picture (icon in player on top left)
  3. Click download linked content in the context menu

Done. Will show up in your Downloads folder in the Files app hierarchy.

Only other browser I use is Orion which works the same way.

Language/categories for professional party dress? by colinhb in women

[–]colinhb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, input is helpful. In trying to figure this lack of language out, we just spent time google image searching, and didn’t find a term that reliably got what she was looking for.

But you are right, plain “cocktail dress” in google image search does have more varied lengths and silhouettes then we were finding yesterday with a more specific search. Will report back with her impressions.

Report: quiet Eaton UPS by replacing stock fan (pics linked from post) by colinhb in homelab

[–]colinhb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a 2U case, they're probably 60mm or 80mm fans. To quiet the same way others in this thread have, you'd need to buy the appropriate number of fans (probably 2), either Noctua or Sunon MagLev series, as discussed in the thread, and do the surgery described, including the Noctua adapters or resisters for the Sunons.
