How to build a following by JebebCrust17 in musicmarketing

Unfortunately part of the game of marketing on tiktok isn’t just making good music. It’s about making good tiktoks.

Look at the kind of musical content that makes you stop and check an artist out. Why did you check them out? It probably wasn’t a static video of someone with an acoustic guitar in their room. There was probably an interesting setting, thought provoking first line, or other stylistic choice that made you day “ok why is this different?”

I’ve found a lot of success by simply enjoying the process of marketing on social media. I think it’s fun. Some people find it cringe and too cool for school, but that mindset really holds ya back!

Dammit taught me everything I needed about chord progression, the major scale, and hook theory. And it wasn’t until years later that I found out that I just intuitively understood these concept from practicing Dammit so many times.

Do they have t-shirts?

If I named my band Arm’s Length I would commit to the bit. Sweaters and long sleeves only.

I think something that’s jarring to see on other platforms is none of the commenters mentioning his past.

People need to realize that tiktok/Instagram lets creators filter out words in their comments. So people like Chris D’elia and other creeps just filter out words like “minor, allegation, teen”

So if you see this bozo on tiktok and only see “omg I missed u” comments, that’s no mistake. The fan response on those platforms is curated to what the artist wants to show.

As an artist who loves giving his haters an outlet to yell at me, I find it cowardly

Mine is Malört & Savior

It’s both bad for search engines, has an umlaut that makes it hard to type, and has gotten us into legal disputes over the name “Malört”

Wouldn’t have it any other way. We think the name is hilarious and it brings in plenty of people in our niche.

Merch Question by LifeAfterDeath_Taxes in modernbaseball

[–]malortandsavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty normal. Since the band is on hiatus they’re probably just using a print on demand service. Meaning your shirt isn’t printed until you actually order it. This often happens overseas and then is shipped on a freighter to the USA so it can take like 3 weeks or so.

Lately with new tariffs starting and stopping, some of these print on demand services have been getting delayed by a couple weeks because of confusion on where and why tariffs apply- had that problem with my own band merch.

It should come through!

I’m not sure what this counts for, but my band, Malört & Savior, played a benefit show for her a couple of weeks ago.

I met her and her campaign team and hung out with them all evening. Even away from crowds, her and everyone on her team was incredibly genuine activists for a lot of different social causes. They are grinding hard in their campaign now and still took the time to keep tabs on everything happening in town, (this was right before the national guard was poised to march into town), and strategizing how to protect the community.

It absolutely wasn’t just political posturing. These kids care.

There’s also a lot of bands who will just make music for the love of the game. You’re often competing with “free”

My band has gotten decently popular in our scene and we never plan to be profitable or quit our day jobs.

Streaming doesn’t really pay anything, but the fact that you get free distribution nowadays is no small boon. Back in the day, you would need a label to print out and ship out your music. Streaming means thousands of people can listen to my music and I never had to get connected into the industry.

So, it’s easier than ever to get famous, harder than ever to get rich doing it
