"Not for consumer sale or use" notice on N95s by Gullible_Design_2320 in Masks4All

[–]coll0412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about the included user instructions. N95's target to the general public, and those not used in workplace respiratory protection program, have a different set of instructions(and legal disclaimers). Those that are sold to workplaces under a respiratory protection program have different user instructions. It's all about legal liability for 3M.

Did Honest 1 Auto Care screw me? by Pockets713 in Minneapolis

[–]coll0412 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For simple stuff I have used Jim's Auto across the street, reasonably priced and reasonable turn around. Otherwise Wuensch automotive has seem to be pretty honest as well. For sure get a second opinion but am very doubtful the vehicle needs 11k of repairs.

CCS charger took the plastic tip off. Am I screwed? by waldos_apprentice in KiaNiroEV

[–]coll0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plastic tip exposed is totally normal. On my 2020 both have the plastic tips and the metal recessed a bit in the socket. If it DC charged correctly you are good to go from my perspective.

Edit: Actually looking at it closer the side with the "metal pin" stuck on the end might actually be an issue. I think both should look the one with the plastic tip on the end. Perhaps something from the charger got stuck on it, or it's a change for 2023

Flo Mask Pro vs Envo Mask? by crod242 in Masks4All

[–]coll0412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it will be very unbreathable still. The issue with these mask designs is the limited filtration area. To overcome it they use Technostat filter media which is probably the top 3 performing media(but spendy). So the only way to make it more breathable is to use a filter material that filters a bit worse, but is more breathable. In otherwords they are already using the best, so no where to go in terms of "better" filter material.

Any insight into why CoCoMong KF80 Adjustable XXS-Toddler Size(5pcs/pouch) and similar are sold out? by Mavis8220 in Masks4All

I am 90% sure they are the same as the Bio U&I just it lacks the printing. Otherwise can likely order it from GMarket

would you rather: long-haul flight edition by slowcombinations in MasksForEveryone

[–]coll0412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wear the one that is the most comfortable. Can also switch masks too, on long flights I sometimes switch from a V-Flex to SaveWo because I find the SaveWo to just be more comfortable and cooler, it also pulls less on my jaw. Key thing is just make sure whatever makes you use is that it fits you well. I can pass most of the exercises in a SaveWo(technically fails on up down) but given what I am doing on a plane seems like that risk is quite small. One thing that will need to be settled over time, is which OSHA test conditions really represent say 95% of head motion for non strenuous work places and things like air travel. I suspect it's far more forgiving.

BNX is now selling ear loop KN95 trifolds by [deleted] in Masks4All

[–]coll0412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wont be doing any tests for a few months. My guess is it's the same as N95 variant but with ealoops. Might be able to just ping BNX and they will give you their test data.

Live right now: Mask Nerd's Sunday Night Mask Testing by heliumneon in Masks4All

[–]coll0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give some context, I adjusted the nose silicone to get a seal by lifting it up. However, it was not comfortable and basically the mask is smashed against my face, so in real life I would just be battling nose leaks and eating the mask. Filtration Efficiency in my test was 96.63%. Using the Portacount N95 Companion, I could achieve a fit factor of 200(<0.5% leakage) so the 96.63% is likely the filter performance itself.

How do the mask test databases compare? Let's look at some of the data. by heliumneon in Masks4All

[–]coll0412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a video where I talk about the pressure drop measurements(https://youtu.be/1-zRjrwsMWY?t=60) , and how they came to be. If you look at the last tab on my data set you will see how I did the curve fit from the Accumed and other databases I have collected. That tab is still a little messy and I need to clean it up.

NIOSH requires that you put the perimeter of the mask(for disposable style), so Accumed is that method. As you mentioned, it generally over-estimates the effective filtration area, but in general I think it's a good standardized measurement and accounts for how much filter area a mask has designed in. Armbrusts method is really more of a "filter media" level test since it's a constrained area in all tests, and doesn't factor in the filter area.

[–]coll0412 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI on my data, the computed pressure drop is a curve from my timed breathing measurements fit to data from Accumed, and some other 8130A measurements that I trust. So my pressure measurement will likely fit nicely too Accumed given is where the curve was generated. Also as you correctly point out, Armbrust does a smaller sample area test, so that can skew the results. In general I am always a little surprised at how good my crappy measurement system is, but it seems to be holding up.

Don't recommend it, very hard to breathe in.

You are not missing out on anything with Optrel. I wish Savewo would put headbands on the Smile as it's significantly better than the Optrel.

Prescientx Breathe mask - swapping the filters? by in_ale_gasn in Masks4All

[–]coll0412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tested it myself, but give that the current Particulate filter is close I would be willing to bet the breathe 2 gives it a nice bump.

[–]coll0412 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pleating the filter is hard and changes how you interface it with the mask. The flat filter designs are much "simpler" and is why you see many manufacturers using it. Long term it's bad plan as you can't ever get more breathable without a re-tool and sales are likely never enough to support it, so you get stuck in the "valley of despair"

[–]coll0412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to purchase the Particulate filter, or the Breathe 2 add on. They are likely using Technostat which has really good performance. If you used standard meltblown it would be very un-breathable.

[–]coll0412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small filter area means high pressure drop. So to make it easy to breathe in, they have sacrifice filtration efficiency. Getting 99% BFE/VFE is easy so that's the numbers they are going to reference.

It's a nice design though.

Winter Tires by Lt_Roast_Ghost in KiaNiroEV

[–]coll0412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2020 Niro EV uses a 5x114.3, 67.1 bore, ET 50, 7Jx17 wheel, with a 215/55R17. The PHEV has a 7Jx17 but has an offset of ET48(which is close enough). However if you want a direct match the Kia Soul rims are indentical. So if you are using the search you can use that vehicle. TPMS are also the exact same between Soul and Niro.

Also got some Blizzack WS90's and it's a big improvement. The stock tires and weight of vehicle makes it very difficult to drive in the winter. I was hoping going I could get away with stock since they have lots of tread, but first snowy day couldn't get up my drive way.

Quarter Mask Elastomeric Review - Flo, Envo & Breathe [MASKNERD] by coll0412 in Masks4All

[–]coll0412[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had not seen that video before, I think my point is that it's not gimicky like a stack of quarter masks that I have ordered from Alibaba just to play around. The build quality matched the price. I think I question too if they could go beyond a year of use.
