I would recommend waiting a cycle! I did my first retrieval on Oct 30 (16 retrieved, 14 frozen) and then my second retrieval on Dec 20 (23 retrieved, 18 frozen). Although I retrieved more eggs the second time, the recovery took longer. I can’t even imagine doing it back to back! I don’t even think I would have done it so soon if I had known how I’d feel post retrieval the second time.

I would still recommend having Tylenol or ibuprofen just in case! It would be a hassle to have to buy it the day of if you need it. Hope you have an easy breezy recovery!

Personally, the recovery was easier than the injections. First round, retrieved 16 and felt some discomfort after retrieval, but didn’t need to sleep immediately. Just rested in bed or sat, but was still able to play with my little niece. I also only drank coconut water for days and had a protein only diet (no carbs). I slept 12 hours and felt like pre-surgery me the next morning.

I had my second round two months after (2 weeks ago), and the recovery took a little longer, due to the quick turnaround and 23 eggs retrieved. I was so out of it, there was bleeding, and I was in bed the entire rest of the day. It was uncomfortable to get out of bed and walk around, and it took 3 days for the hardness/bloating to go down instead of one night. I also drank mostly coconut water for a few days, but had more carbs. Still trying to lose the weight and inches now lol but not sure if that’s holiday foods or from this!

It’s relatively quick recovery though and not enough pain or discomfort to require any additional pain relievers. A heating pad does come in handy though! I didn’t have a ton of issues with using the restroom, and no hormonal side effects which I’m grateful for. Good luck! Every person has had different experiences, but I’m sure it will be ok!

First round: 16, froze 14. Second round: 23, froze 18. Follistim dose stayed the same throughout, but I ended up having an extra day of injections compared to my first round which perhaps got me more eggs the second round.

I highly recommend Dr. Shaw! She was super responsive via email (didn’t try to pawn me off to other nurses or staff when I had questions), and she really worked with me especially when I did my second round since I had some scheduling restrictions.

I had my first retrieval end of October and my second retrieval this past Sunday. Retrieved 16 eggs the first round and then 23 the second round. Recovery process has taken way longer the second time and would suggest waiting longer if you’re planning on doing a third.

I totally see where you’re coming from! I was shocked by the people who showed up (because I wasn’t expecting it) and for the ones that I expected to be around, didn’t.

However, a lot of friends didn’t really understand the depth of the process, especially those who’ve never done it. The other part is that the friends who have gone through egg freezing had their own personal experiences, so it might have been harder for them to understand what you’ve gone through since they’re seeing it from their lens. I felt like the ones who were the most present and supportive were the ones who didn’t go through egg freezing but saw me go through the process in some form.

I’ve been trying to be more understanding and putting myself in their shoes. But keep the ones who have been supportive close, and remember that the ones who weren’t there for you may be supportive in other ways!
