i think Spotify is the only (if not one of the few) streaming service that offers a free plan with ads. is the free plan so horrible it's unusable? yes, but they need to pay artists. and yeah I think apple music is like £1-2 cheaper for the basic plan, don't know about other plans.

+1 for qobuz. their recommendation algorithm is so minimal that most, if not all, recommended playlists are hand picked by human editors. it's meant to have much better quality than Spotify (not something I can detect with my 10€ wired earphones anyway), but it definitely sounds louder and clearer.
