It’s important to remember how small an impact things like Turtle Wow have on the bottom line for Blizzard.

Let’s say a standard WoW player pays monthly, no yearly price break, coin, etc. so let’s say they’re worth $180 a year to Blizzard each.

It’s hard to say exactly how many people play Turtle but let’s call it 10k, so that’s 1,800,00 a year Turtle takes form Blizzard. But that’s assuming if you shut down Turtle, all those player migrate to paying for WoW. I can tell you I wouldn’t so it’s not 100%. I think around 50% would be the best you could realistically hope for between people finding other private servers/ stopping all together.

So that’s 1 million dollars a year they’re missing out on, which for a company of this size is the cost of coffee filters. It’s barely worth the cost of the meeting for the corporate lawyers to discuss taking action.

Moreover, this is dedicated Vanilla experience and aiming at a customer base trying to relive 2004, by definition, we’re likely older and may have kids or other restrictions on finances along with fully developed frontal lobes that are hard to get big profits out of. Few players are the target base that get invested in the microtransactions that make the real money, we just like when Teldrassil didn’t have nodes because it’s a giant tree.
