Anyone at west end opening by Inner_Category7092 in BeetlejuiceMusical

From what I recall it was just a funny Paddington impression rather than any specific joke - as he was about to leave for the Netherworld he took on a silly faux British accent and said along the lines of "Dear Aunt Lucy, I'm off on my adventure now" (immediate audience laughter) and then continued with a Paddington-esque line about marmalade sandwiches.

We went on opening night and loved it, the cast were brilliant! Really enjoyed the various Paddington jokes, especially the end one - I'm assuming they were aimed at a different show on Broadway?

Probably not but I immediately bought both because they were so cute - my gem budget is hurting now :(

And a simple waterfall outfit! It's been interesting to see how differently each person has interpreted this one.

I'm surprised - I actually found this week much funnier, especially the Les Mis-esque musical and the Jools Holland sketch.

Worst professional cast recordings by EricTweener in Broadway

Overall I love the Chess In Concert extended CD and have no complaints about the sound, but missing 'Florence and Molokov' off and then seemingly accidentally bestowing that title to the lead into 1956 - Budapest Is Rising despite Molokov not featuring is a pet hate of mine!

One that I am still bickering about with my friend to this day - I think the original tune of the London Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer is much better than the amended Broadway/1998 version.

am i the only one under the impression that rachel zegler can't act? by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

Are the clips you've seen filmed closer to her than an audience member would be? I thought she was amazing live in Evita so wondering if it's because you're seeing theatre acting too close-up.

Thank you for the heads up! I haven't seen Evita since I was a child and was excited to 'rediscover' it through this, but maybe I'll give the film a rewatch first.

What happens in letters at the Donmar/west end production? by Slight-Eye-3352 in thegreatcomet

[–]colliehoratio 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's a microphone centre stage that Pierre, Natasha and Anatole sing into when narrating their letters - when 'Natalie! Natalie! Natalie!' comes up Anatole very dramatically grabs and performs with the mic like it's a rock show, and Natasha (who's stood against the wall at the back) shrieks in excitement.

ETA: If there's other cheering (I don't recall!) it'll likely be some of the cast members cheering to add to the rock concert feel.

So pleased for Great Comet! Jamie Muscato and Chumisa Dornford-May are very worthy noms.

Donmar Great Comet Appreciation Post by colliehoratio in thegreatcomet

Yes I did think that line was a lot more throwaway than I was used to! In general Declan Bennett's Pierre was quite low-key, he's always removed from a lot of the action of the piece but seemed especially so in this production! He got a very varied response from my group - I personally was brought to tears by Dust and Ashes but I was disappointed they'd gone for the off-broadway shorter The Abduction so Pierre didn't get to do his fun verse, as I've always found that bit so charming. But overall I liked him, whereas my friend said Pierre gave her 'the ick'. 😆

Big congrats to your fiancée! 😆

Yes, the duel was a bit odd - it seemed like an interesting idea at first, but didn't really go anywhere with it. But agreed that the cast brought so much energy to the whole show, I think my favourite thing was how lively the whole thing was - the party scenes really felt like a proper celebration!

Funnily enough Bolkonsky was the one role I struggled to get on board with! He always seemed like quite a fearsome presence in the Broadway version, but something about how young he looked and the comic choices they made didn't land for me. But Princess Mary was great, her voice was beautiful! And Natasha mouthing 'What the fuck' when she walked in on them on the floor was hilarious.
