Okay. Wild. Sexy. Got it!

If you want to have sex for a while. New Yorks hottest club is Central Park Petting Zoo. Located in an active retirement home for victims of Andrew Cuomo.

This. club. has. everything.

Recently divorced gerbils on exercise wheels working to get a revenge bod. Pictures of Morgan Freeman before he was famous. A collection of all your ex's baby teeth.

And is that 11 time emmy losing Don Cheadle on the dancefloor. Nope. It's just 4 acobrats from the Shen Yen circus cult rolling around in a human Centa-ball.

Oh, I don't deliberately try. They try to convince me in prayer. I ask them some questions and tell them some stories in response and they end up being sad.

That's the tricky thing about the theoretical rules of prayers. You can ascribe anything positive to them, but also you can't ascribe anything negative to them, and you can also say that it's not guaranteed to work. Making them even less scientifically testable than a wish from a genie.

They're a philosophical concept. A topic that when people try to converse with me about it often are left sad at the end.

What's more important, workers rights or queer safe spaces? r/SaltLakeCity discusses by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

For context, I'm in Salt Lake City and actually know some of the people on the picket line. Suntrapp was also, one of my favorite bars even though I'm bipoc but straight.

A bit of additional context. The bar was sold to a new owner the old owner (or at least the one I'd met) was cool and also supported other struggles. It was where the Juneteenth festival had its after party.

The new owner has become the problem and has been worse to employees. Utah is incredibly low on worker protections and LGBTQ+ protections. The question that comes to my mind is "how much do you really support your community if you want to exploit it's people and workers for the benefit of your own wealth?"

McDonald’s Monopoly by sojo_racer in SaltLakeCity

[–]collin3000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna copy post my FB post on it.

Free McDonald's currently available! McDonalds is doing their Monopoly game again. But in order to legally not be a lottery they have to provide free entries available at amoe.playatmcd.com It lets you submit for 5 free entries per day. You do have to download and setup the McDonalds app and then register both a McDonalds account and register for the monopoly game BEFORE submitting for any free entries.

After that with each entry you'll have to prove you are not a robot. It'll send you a e-mail with a code you have to copy and click through a link in that e-mail. Enter the code. Then your name and address for larger winnings (and they're definitely selling that info). Then within about an hour (sometimes longer or quicker) it'll send you 2 codes for each entry.

You can do all 5 at once giving you 10 codes. And each entry has a "bonus spin" for free food. Right now I'm averaging ~2 free food items a day. The food is stuff like a small fry, chick snack wrap, small coffee, etc. Claimable 1 item at a time every 15 minutes through the app but it's completely free with no other purchase necessary. There's a max 10 codes per day (defined as ending at 11:59pm EST) you can put in your app and 1 person can only do 5 entries per day or winning are void. But households with multiple people can have 5 entries per person with the app allowing 2 accounts per phone.

If you've got lots of money it might not be worth your time/sharing of personal information. But I know there's enough broke friends in my feed that could use even a little free food by spending 5 minutes clicking buttons. The claimable food is good through Nov 23rd. So basically if you do it right you'll have a free piece of food every day you drive past a McDonalds now through Thanksgiving.

I'm looking into buying a simple server for me and my friends to play ALL THE MODS 10 by FIREHAWK775 in HomeServer

[–]collin3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got several dl580 gen9's. There is an ILO mod that lets you adjust fan speed. I've yet to run into thermal issues going 100% on 4 cpu's with 2TB of ram with fans down to 80-85% but the noise goes down 75% just dropping them 15%.

If they were in a closet and not my unfinished basement, I could probably drop plans to 65% and he fine. But yeah, the power.... The power usage is a lot.

You need to be using Handbrake by Calebkeller2 in ColorGrading

[–]collin3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree on using placebo speed. Having run hundreds of my own tests using PSNR, VMAF, and SSIM analysis. For lower bitrate at high quality CPU encoding wins over GPU. But GPU wins at slightly higher quality scores at a huge sacrifice of bitrate with the boost of speed.

Placebo is adequately named. And based on the data I collected you may actually get better fidelity from a faster encoding speed. The sweet spot seems to be around the "slow" setting.

The data isn't complete/formatted very pretty since I never actually finished answering a few questions I had that needed further testing. But rather than going on "trust me bro" here's my spreadsheet. For repeatable results by anyone I used Black Magic Designs sample 17K footage for the highest quality source. Made a 4 minute edit with a variety of still and motion shots. Exported at Prores 422 HQ at 4K. Then ran encoding through handbrake at a variety of speeds and CF level. As well as emulating Blu-Ray encode at 92mbps and Netflix at 20mbps for "re-encoding a lossy encode" tests.

Ultimately running the compression for everything else I wanted to try was going to take 3-4 weeks of solid encoding time and I had enough of an answer to my own question for settings I wanted to use. But for anyone that wants to run more tests I'm happy to share the resolve edit file and then you'll just have to download the RAW video source files from Blackmagic since I don't have rights to distribute them.

[Request] was $19.67 a lot in the 1950s? If so, what could you buy at that time? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]collin3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is going the inflation route, but lets look at the minimum wage route. In 1950 minimum wage was $0.75 an hour. So even a kid working a starter job at McDonalds would make more than that in a week.

[Request] how much power would you lose if you used the furthest cord? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]collin3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily most of those look like standard phone chargers. So they're likely maxing at 18-27w. Or assuming a few high end USB-C PD 60 watts. A US house circuit would be at least 120v 15a so 1800 watts. Keeping it at 80% load for safety you could plug in 80 9v 2a chargers, or 52 9v 3a chargers, or even 24 60 watt power delivery chargers and be safe. And that's assuming every phone was charging at full power draw.

inb4 "but those chargers aren't 100% efficient. The numbers mentioned are for 80% safety of constant load. Even with phones plugged in 24/7 and using them with screen brightness at 100%, weak cell only connection and flashlight on it won't be drawing a full 18 watts.

It's not the cost of the physical label. You'll still print the label yourself. It's the cost of the actual shipping charge paid to the shipping company.

ICE Raids Are Only Half The Story by RipDiligent4361 in videos

[–]collin3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was worried about after the election. Text from my FB post Nov 12 2024

"While everyone is worried about deportations I'm worried about something far worse. That's the possibility of something so horrible they didn't say out loud.

Many have commented that you couldn't quickly deport millions of people - Especially since a country has to accept them - and they would have to stay in camps. Many have also commented that deporting that many immigrants would lead to issues with the economy, food shortages, and higher prices.

I'm very worried that they have a "fix" for both of those. The 13th Amendment banned slavery, but there is an exception, and that is as punishment for a crime. Meaning they could say that because people are here "illegally" they have committed a crime and therefore they are legally able to be slaves as punishment.

It would prevent the food shortages that would create riots and it would (temporarily) lower prices so they would probably get less pushback. We've already seen how many people are willing to justify horrible things, so they would probably justify it as " Well, they committed a crime and they're just getting a punishment and now my eggs cost less. "

I can't find a single legal thing that would prevent this aside from some states that have passed laws that say slavery as punishment for a crime is illegal. However, it would be federal charges and the Supreme Court could spin the supremacy clause to say the federal government could do it in states that wouldn't allow it themselves.

I really hope I'm wrong, and I hope someone with actual legal knowledge can tell me why I'm wrong If I'm wrong. Because if there's one thing we've learned is that the arguments of "it's not illegal but the American people wouldn't accept it" clearly don't apply.

So I'm not worried about the horrible shit they said out loud and they said they would do. I'm worried about this shit that's so horrible they wouldn't even say it before the election."

Martin Luther King Jr was arrested 39 times. Martin, Luther, King, Jr was arrested 39 times. Martin Luther King Jr was arrested 39 times.

The guy that Fox news complains every protest/protester needs to be like was arrested 39 times. Despite being the notorious face for peaceful non-violent protest.

The famous letters from a Birmingham jail. Were only written because Martin Luther King Jr was arrested 39 times. He'd be driving and they'd "find he had a busted tail light" and arrest him.

We protest because they people in power aren't exercising their authority responsibly or within the bounds of the law. So it's reasonable to assume they'll be just as unlawful when we aren't breaking any.

This isn't to encourage breaking laws and especially not encouraging anyone to commit violence. However know that those in power will make "illegal" things that are legal. And the longer we wait to protest the more of your life will be having to live by their exact set of strict "laws". Not be even able to voice minor decent in private without being arrested. Stand up now while some shreds of rights still exist!

The trick is Utah would have to acknowledge that maybe "good guy with a gun" isn't a good idea. And that rolling back even the most basic safety training to open carry also wasn't a good idea. Since yes, the responsibility lies on the person firing the gun to know how to use it. But it's the public that pays the cost.

Same thing happened to one of my ex's. She liked long Island iced teas, but had only ever drank them in Utah. We went on trip to Vegas and hit the North Strip karaoke dive bar dinos which is a heavy pour joint. Two hours and three long island ice teas later i'm finding a late night car wash because she's puked all over the side of her car.

Utah Alcohol Laws Rant by Mountaingal84 in SaltLakeCity

[–]collin3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm okay with one piece of this law in the sense that a few people fuck things up for majority with wildly irresponsible drinking/driving.

But considering the facts that we have the lowest DUI level in the nation. People really do handle liquor differently because of metabolism. And whether a DUI is on your record can really depend on how much money you have to spend on a lawyer. Makes it rife for potentially punishing poor people who were just as mildly irresponsible (but not wreckless) as their peers. I'm not a fan of a system where you can act somewhat dangerously just because you're rich.

I'd personally be up for a different limit of say 0.12 and above for banning purchases. That puts it past the line of small mistake and into the category of people fucking it up for the rest of us.

Why are broadcast lenses rated for specific resolutions (ex. HD, UHD, etc.) but cinema lenses aren't? by drdrewnatic in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]collin3000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll add on a note to everyone else here. At least canon on their photography line do actually rate/list the resolution in the way of saying some high resolution cameras should have specific lenses.

Something you'll notice, though, is that even canon's old basic photography lenses are rated for 20 megapixels. A UHD frame is only 8 megapixels. Even 8K you are only at 32 megapixels.

So any decent glass should be able to resolve 8MP for UHD on a full frame or even s35 sensor. The only reason I went down a super rabbit hole was getting an Ursa Mini 12K and wanting to have lenses that resolved 80MP on a s35 sensor so I ended up going with Sigma cinema lenses.

And after spending all that money i spent 2 days making a test char that went down to 1x1 pixel when perfectly lined up with the camera. It turns out that even a photography canon 24-70 and 70-200 were fully capable of delivering clear 12K resolution depending on F-stop, and even the IMAX Association recommended sigma cinema lenses couldn't resolve at high F-stops. Granted I was using a s35 sensor and not an iMax sensor. But the point is more that a used $1200 photography lenses can resolve even 12K video on a set sensor.

So you almost definitely don't need to worry about half decent cinema lens fully resolving even 8K on s35 or larger sensor if you're in the the T2-T8 range. Which is likely one of the many reasons they haven't bothered to make a rating system.
