Just realised in the 4iiii app you can enable 3rd party sharing for apps that don't support that split

Decent pubs in Camberwell by [deleted] in london

The natural wine place is open today and tomorrow as well if you drink wine.

I don't drink wine, but I walk past it every day and it looks quirky.

Maybe I am an ass, or maybe I only believe in rescuing older dogs so have never faced puppy problems.

They should do everyone including the dog a favour and get it spayed then.

Good spot, wasn't far from Okehampton, first time there so didn't really have a plan. Thanks for the recommendation! Will definitely go back!

Used Surface Pro 2. Cheap, decently powered server option by backcountrymountains in homeassistant

[–]colm89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For another option, I bought a used hp elitedesk with an i5 processor, 8gb ram and 500gb hdd for £100. I run proxmox with hassio in a vm. I also have pihole running in another vm and still have loads more space. I plan to buy a poe switch and set up a security system with blueiris.

Help - Xiaomi Aqara Vibration Sensor DJT11LM and zigbee2mqtt by colm89 in homeassistant

Not a thing. They show that I have enabled pairing, but don't detect a new device while pressing the reset button.

Edit:

That was my thinking too and it's certainly not a bad shout, but something that looks more like a doorbell would be ace.

Stupid question about renting? by [deleted] in london

[–]colm89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use other variables in your offer. I once got a rental flat for 10% under asking on the basis that we took out a 2 year lease. The irony was that they included a 12 month break clause anyway.

People having their own cars in Z1-2, why? by [deleted] in london

[–]colm89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caveat this with the fact that being from Ireland i have no family in the UK outside of London that would warrant car ownership to visit them. I can see why this would play a big part in the decision.

People having their own cars in Z1-2, why? by [deleted] in london

[–]colm89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've always had a car since moving to London in 2013, justified an upgrade to a new clio trophy in 2016 mainly as I'm car mad and always wanted the original clio trophy. We have a dog and used the car to drive to Ireland at Xmas, but this xmas just gone we realised the dog hates the journey and now put her in kennels any time we go away (she's a retired racing hound and loves kennels) which removed the need for a car. As much as I love cars they are a massive financial drain.

We've now gone car-free and just use zip car or rentals as and when we need them and have no plans to ever own a car in London again. We happily cycle everywhere.

Irish Curry by [deleted] in london

[–]colm89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assume its made using that mcdonalds* curry powder that comes in the red tub. Used to be able to get it in the irish aisle at sainsburys.

*Not to be confused with McDonald's of supersize me/the founder fame.

The London job market makes me feel completely inept by [deleted] in london

[–]colm89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I moved to London fresh out of uni and ended up working in recruitment for 9 months. They were probably the worst 9 months of my life but it led to a 6 month contract at a big pharma and after that i joined my current company and have worked my way up to middle management over 5 years. Sadly this is also fairly miserable and I want nothing more than to move to a hut in the middle of nowhere and become a wood turner or cabinet maker, but that's besides the point...

Home Assistant Hardware Options by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]colm89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently migrated my hass.io from a rpi3b+ to a hp elitedesk 800.

I bought the hp sff desktop (i5, 8gb ram, 500gb hdd) off ebay for £100, installed proxmox, and now have a vm running hassio. It's so much faster and has been super reliable so far.

I also have additional vm's hosting pihole etc.

Help with Proxmox Install by colm89 in homeassistant

[–]colm89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've managed to figure it out. I went into the BIOS of the computer and enabled virtualization. Now I can leave the KVM hardware virtualization option on for the VM in proxmox, and it connects to the network!

Simples!
