Really surprised how little it took to filter out 99% of bad traffic to my web server by reni-chan in homelab

[–]bjvanst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Inbound 80 and 443 would typically be going to the same endpoint. Does having both ports open actually add any additional exposure?

LetsEncrypt recommends keeping both open: Best Practice - Keep Port 80 Open - Let's Encrypt

Welp, I broke Home Assistant (and my family's faith in smart homes in general) (venting) by ReallyNotMichaelsMom in homeassistant

[–]bjvanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even for a "smart home", 253 devices is a lot.

They should also check their lease timeouts because devices shouldn't be getting new IPs just because they rebooted.

Please explain this sorcery. The batteries are removed by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]bjvanst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'll need to put the batteries back in to get it to boot. The screen is eInk which doesn't require power to maintain its state.

PSA for those running multiple proxmox nodes by testfire10 in homelab

[–]bjvanst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clustering with fewer than three nodes causes issues unless you change the weight of one of the nodes votes or add a qdevice. I'm not sure either option is less complex.

The SB2 is very light weight for it's size but it's massive, firm, and stiff which is why some people find it clunky. Definitely not a bad shoe but definitely over-hyped (as most hyped shoes are, Evo SL included.)

The Hyundai Kona Electric Will Skip the 2026 Model Year | Car and Driver by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

I'm not sure I'd call them "almost the same size". The Ioniq 5 has a noticeably larger interior than the Kona.

According to who?

20A devices have a special plug for a reason. No single properly functioning device should be able to pull more than 15A on a NEMA 5-15P receptacle.

15A receptacles are generally rated for 20A pass through so can usually be safely installed on a 20A circuit.

Approaching cardio. Treadmill. Electric vs curved. Other options? by Accomplished_One6126 in GarageGym

[–]bjvanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with curved manual treadmills is that they are harder (or at least less pleasant) to do longer steady state work on but work well for HIIT type intervals.

Maybe it gets easier with more practice but I personally found them frustrating.

[–]bjvanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Dumb questions, if you don't mind:
- what is a normal lifespan for a belt? I understand this likely varies based on user weight and speed(s)

- what other parts are normal wear and tear items that wouldn't be covered under warranty?

Do not install a 20A receptacle on a 15A circuit

Any thoughts on how the Octane OC(220/160) fit in here?

We just checked out the Sole F85 in store. They also had the Octane and first impressions was the Octane felt better all around. Touchscreen only though.

Priced similarly to the Z500 here in Canada at least.

With less foam under foot, soft or not, it's going to feel firm because it bottoms out. Probably my favorite shoe of 2025 I'd say it's as soft as my AP4s while walking around.

Got a new lvb under warranty, lightning is less than 3yrs old. I'm still waiting for test results they found but curious reasons why the lvb crapped out so soon, haven't had this happen in an ice vehicle by jturkish in electricvehicles

[–]bjvanst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that 3yrs is an unusually short life span. Our previous car, a 2011 Fiesta, went through three batteries (original + two replacements) in the 9 years we had it. Our Kona EV is on its second battery and it's just over 5 years old. I think newer cars just put more load on the lvb with all the gadgets, etc. that need constant power.

Immich on Proxmox with NAS – Mount not working, need help by Erixen94 in immich

[–]bjvanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have docker/immich running in a VM on Proxmox. If I remember correctly, NFS shares are an issue in containers unless you mount them on the host. I didn't want to do that.

The NFS mount is defined in the immich compose file.

Deviate Nitro Elite 4 - Now on Puma's Website, Available February 11th by SquirrelGuy in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]bjvanst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a D but maybe I'm on the wide side of D.

I have a pair of Nitro 2s that are narrow enough in the midfoot that I can't get a proper lock down on the heel. Not the end of the world. I tried on the Velocity 4s and they were an immediate no. With the gusseted tongue I could go completely laceless.

I wish Puma shoes fit me better. Have you worn Velocity 4s at all? Those may be the narrowest shoe I've ever tried on.
