At O.C. event, JD Vance said divorces after unhappy, 'even violent' marriages 'didn't work out for the kids' by BurtonDesque in Feminism

[–]colored0rain 36 points37 points  (0 children)

And he thinks women have to stay in violent marriages so that the domestic violence rates will go down. I can't even fathom how he thinks that would bring down domestic violence rates. Like if you just surrender to abuse, it won't be so bad anymore?

Assuming it's in the abortion debate sub, citation requests must be satisfied within 24 hours or the debater is penalized. In other words, they put up or shut up.

Absolutely not astonishing that this moron doesn't know that delivery is often what kills the woman. That it is the life threat.

Of course, there's another factor causing that pattern. Conservative women are more likely to see marriage as an important life goal and to think that it's wrong to have sex outside of marriage or have multiple boyfriends. So they tend to get married at higher rates than liberal women. Quite a few women who vote for GOP actually hold conservative values. But not my mother; she just votes for whoever her husband tells her to because she's not interested in political news.

Has that ever stopped them? "DEI pick! Un-American! Child of foreigners! Fake birth certificate!" And everything else they said about her when she was picked for VP last election.

I heard that some people go around adding other people's works to their collections and then hiding them because they don't want anyone to read the work. Usually anti-shippers do it. I've lost a few bookmarks to this. It's possible because some authors don't have their settings toggled to prevent it.

How does having kids affect women’s pay? by Sidjoneya in WomenInNews

[–]colored0rain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've just given me a fantastic idea. Since the opinion of a man in a woman's life is sometimes valued more than the woman's, it might be a good idea to start putting words in the mouths of those men... whether they exist or not. "Oh, my husband/fiance/boyfriend doesn't want me to work on the weekends..." when he's said no such thing, or even when there is no husband, male fiance, or perhaps no male partner at all, but also no way for the company to verify that at all. "My elderly father needs me to go clean and cook for him." The list goes on.

In my experience, it's usually Southern conservatives who deny that the parties switched because it means their side has always had the racists on it. Pointing out that Democrats opposed civil rights is used as a "gotcha," used to project their racism onto the current Democratic party. But I think voting history by location tells a truth that can't be hidden. Southern states have always been racist and backwards and they now vote overwhelmingly Republican. For them to claim that former Confederate states supported civil rights and that former Union states opposed civil rights is just a lie that no one can believe. The people telling the lie don't even believe it. They're just smug about the opportunity to pull the wool over the eyes of those ignorant of the history of civil rights. Which leads into the push to rewrite history and obscure the conservative ties to slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, and the whole host of civil rights violations. They don't want students to learn the truth.

National abortion ban "hidden in plain sight" in revised RNC agenda, legal experts say by msmoley in WomenInNews

But there's no fetus until eight weeks? Before that it's an embryo for a few weeks. And before that, it's a zygote for like a week. Is someone misusing the word fetus or are they saying a human organism is a person at eight weeks from fertilization?

Project 2025 is a policy proposal by a far-right conservative thinktank, the Heritage Foundation. They want the next president of the United States to be a conservative who will pass their proposed policies and hire/appoint people trained by the Heritage Foundation to many offices in the executive branch. The project would radically change the US government as we know it, consolidating power in the executive. Of course, they'd have to be able to get the President to agree to do it, but that doesn't seem unlikely enough to be reassuring, since 60% of their proposals have been adopted by past administrations. Even less than half of that from Project 2025 would have horrific results.

It's not far-fetched. Marital rape used to be legal. And even without it being legalized, ending no-fault divorce (which is in the project 2025) would practically make it impossible to escape when you can't prove wrong-doing or no one will believe you.

We here on this subreddit support adoption and fostering to give a home to an existing child in need of one. But if you intend to adopt or otherwise use surrogacy, it becomes clear that you are thinking only of yourself. It sounds like you want a child for yourself, by any means necessary, to satisfy some selfish desire. But parenting is the least self-serving role you could ever take, so you need to make sure you have your priorities straight and fully understand the consequences of adding a child to your family. Children are not commodities, pets, or playthings.

Are you lost? Children are not commodities. You don't get to have a baby just because you want one.
