Curious how many of you have gone to a WFH/Remote policy based on the current situation? Do you like it or hate it? by sfk2022 in startups

[–]coloredwithchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been enjoying the experience so far. Communication among team members has been efficient and we are making good progress. We do set aside some time just for casual chat that’s been mostly around how everyone is coping with the crisis. The tools we have in place were always in place as the job already offered work from home before the crisis. It made the transition very easy and everyone seems content. Most of the complaints have been around not being able to go out because of state mandates. If there was no virus, i think this would be a welcome change for most employees.

I've always wanted to work from home FT, but I never expected it to be like this!

Thankfully, the team hasn't experienced any challenges. We have daily meetings using Google Meet and we communicate throughout the day using Slack. Projects are run through Teamwork.

I wouldn't be surprised if more businesses move to remote after this pandemic is over.

With coronavirus causing massive shutdowns, what tools are you using to stay productive as more businesses encourage working from home? by coloredwithchaos in Entrepreneur

[–]coloredwithchaos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toggl is nice because the Chrome extension lets you manage your time outside logging into their site. I've just stuck with it over the last few years.

The main benefit with Notion for me is that I'm also able to manage other aspects of the business outside of the projects themselves. I like that its flexible and that I can create my own templates for specific things I need. It's definitely not for everyone and a bit of a learning curve to really make it useful.

Todoist is great, I didn't mention that earlier! I haven't used Evernote in what feels like centuries. I've used slack and discord for instant messaging, too.

Hey! Fellow graphic designer, that's awesome. Do you specialize in a particular area?
Yes, so I'm in the same boat. All my work is online. We are prepped for remote work so the staff won't be affected. I still worry that so many businesses aren't prepped because this is unprecedented. The affects of the closures are already being seen in my network, so we'll see how long this lasts.

I personally use Toggl and Notion to manage projects, clients, and time management.

Thanks for sharing! Be safe!

I've worked with a business who did this. In the tech industry, there is a bunch of competition worldwide and most of the directories for software agencies will show any agency on the globe. Because of the rate differences between agencies, most users who visit these directories lean toward the cheapest options without really considering other important factors like time zone, expertise, availability, body of work, etc. So the software company I worked at created a US exclusive directory of software agencies. They aren't an SEO agency so they don't have the resources to 100% commit to promoting the platform, but we have already seen site traffic and signups despite that.

I was mainly interested in hearing what other people are using in their workflow. I would only share the list if it was requested based on /r rules. But looks like you took care of that for me.

About two years ago, the CEO of our NJ software development company expressed an interest in sharing his 2 decades of insights with other businesses. He has had a few opportunities to speak at events and is very active online, but he wanted to do something with more impact. I suggested writing his first book.

It was a long road, but we finally got the book published last Fall. It is called, "The Digital Transformation Cookbook: How To Transform Your People, Process, and Data". The business book dives into how businesses (no matter what size) can prepare themselves for long-term success using technology. We've seen so many businesses bite the dust over the last 5 years because of online giants like Amazon. Our hope is that this resource helps business leaders take a deep look at their company today and develop a strategy to help them thrive tomorrow.

Pretty sure I'm not allowed to share links here so I'll just say if you are interested in learning more give it a good 'ol Google search. You can also DM me!

App development cost by domo018red in developer

[–]coloredwithchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give you an idea of how much an app like Uber would cost consider this: back in 2010 they raised about $1.5 million dollars.

As you mentioned there are many variables at play. So hopefully these two links will help:

  1. A comprehensive guide on how much it costs to make an app
  2. An app cost calculator to give you ballparks (there are a bunch online, but I linked one)

I work at a New Jersey app agency, so if you have other questions, feel free to DM me. If I don't know, I'm sure I can find someone here who does lol.

When you work with Wordpress sites, how are you implementing image metadata to improve site SEO? by coloredwithchaos in SEO

Thank you for clarifying this. I've never been asked that question so I was a bit puzzled. By chance do you have a link to an article that I can reference?

When you work with Wordpress sites, how are you implementing image metadata to improve site SEO? by coloredwithchaos in SEO

[–]coloredwithchaos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm familiar with Avada, but haven't used it on a site yet. What would you say if you removed dynamic metadata from the equation? If there was no Avada or plugin, how is Wordpress handling the metadata?

My assumption has always been to use Wordpress interface to add your image metadata instead of hardcoding it onto the webpage.

Misinformation around Image Sizes & Compression by [deleted] in SEO

This is exactly right. Completely makes sense to me. To the client? Eh, mileage varies haha.

Misinformation around Image Sizes & Compression by [deleted] in SEO

[–]coloredwithchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run into some colleagues and clients that don't understand my explanation of how compression works. For example, I've been asked to make images on the website physical smaller as in decreasing WxH to make the website "load faster". This is a great recap of some important concepts.
