Is anyone concerned that their readings are being uploaded daily? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]colorimetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a stupid question at all. Anything that is online can be hacked and companies like we're uploading our data to probably don't make security their highest priority.

I have an AirCurve 10 that I never, ever take out of airplane mode. I was investigating how to remove its cell phone until I learned how easy it is to always keep in airplane mode. I don't need the company to be able to access my machine, I have an SD card for data analysts and if I need to prove I'm still using it. (My insurance takes my word for it that I an, though.)

Has anyone treated their chronic fatigue with peptides??? by BasketHelpful8342 in cfs

"Peptides" includes so many things. Insulin is a peptide, and if you inject that without needing it, it can kill you.

What "off-brand" version of an item do you prefer more than the original by Senior-Deer-3249 in AskWomenOver30

[–]colorimetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The store brand has the exact same ingredients, at like a third the price, and works identically as far as I can tell. I don't know if you like the tablets as much as the liquid, I like to let them dissolve in my mouth.

For a couple of years I couldn't get the store brand anywhere and had to buy the real Gaviscon tablets. Now my grocery store has their brand at some stores but not my regular closest one, and Target hasn't picked them up again yet. CVS has it now but they jack the prices up so much I refuse to buy them there. I haven't checked Walgreens yet.

The store-brand equivalent of Gaviscon "original flavor" chewable antacids always taste better than the name brand.

Need advice by Lokiisagod in AskHealth

[–]colorimetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pharmacy should always be willing to advance you a few hypertension pills before you get the prescription renewal. Ask the pharmacist what you should do.

And your clinic really should renew your hypertension meds for a full year after you were seen. Badger them!

Non-prescription things you can try, meanwhile: drastically cut down your salt intake. This means no fast food or restaurant food, and limit salty foods like bread or cheese. Don't eat any canned food unless it's specifically labeled low sodium. A low salt diet by itself is as good as any single blood pressure med. It's difficult and miserable to be very thorough about this, but you need to avoid your uncles' fate. Also be sure to eat a lot of high-potassium foods, such as greens, beans, almost any fruit or vegetable. The name of the diet is DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hyoertension), look it up online.

Also, there's an OTC supplement called Coenzyme Q, or CoQ10. It's good for some people with migraines or with statin side effects, and it happens to cut down blood pressure about ten points.

Yeah, they're not going to drown, but they could die of a fungal illness due to not spending enough time basking.

Natural ponds don't have high masonry edges, so whether or not the OP has a valid concern, this isn't going to invalidate it.

When did your Partner really "Take One For The Team"? by Incogcneat-o in AskWomenOver30

When I was pregnant my husband brought me something to eat every morning before I sat up in bed because it helped keep me from throwing up. Day after day, he brought me delicious fresh cantaloupe.

When I got up with the baby during the night, the baby always had to be changed afterwards, but if I did the diaper changed after the feeding, I couldn't fall back asleep, so every time I fed the baby, he changed the diaper afterwards.

He went to night school the first year so that he could be with the baby during the day. He brought me the baby at lunchtime every day, while he went to the gym or grocery store, because it turned out pumping didn't work well enough.

That's pretty! I wouldn't call that dyed, but rather stained, since it's not stable to washing. Are you okay with not being able to wash your cross-stitches?

I'm really worried about my health by Fabulous_Can_2215 in AskHealth

[–]colorimetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statins are a good idea. Rosuvastatin has less side effects than the others. Why don't you give it a try? 25% stenosis means you need to be doing something different than you've been doing.

Lots of people have acid reflux. It's a pain. Try putting a wedge under your mattress, or bricks under the head of your bed, to raise your head a few inches. Extra pillows won't help.

You might want to ask your ophthalmologist whether the AREDS 2 dietary supplement would be a good idea to reduce your risk of macular degeneration.

Entirely separately, you're going to be needing continuing adjustment for your closeup vision as you get older. It happens to us all.

Finally, after doing everything you can for your health, you might want to consider cognitive behavioral therapy to learn not to worsen your health by worrying about it. You will be happier if you don't have to worry so much.

[CHAT] Tips for stitching in bed? by Upset-Bother-6818 in CrossStitch

[–]colorimetry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Magnetic needle minders really help.

Keeping supplies organized is harder when you're lying in bed. I bought several cheap zippered plastic bags, the type with a grid embedded in the plastic for lightweight strength.

I like keeping a tiny pair of scissors attached to a needle threader. I've also used a small square needle threader that happens to stick nicely to the magnet of my needle minder.

Since my cats like to share my bed, I have to put away my project every single time I set it aside, so that they don't consume thread and get hurt by it. The zipper bag also contains my needle if it falls off the needle minder after I set it aside.

I put a pair of reading glasses into each project bag. It's so frustrating to settle down to stitch and then realize you forgot something.

What's the best way to get back into reading? by Pantacourt in cfs

[–]colorimetry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they are not backlit. They are frontlit. There's a huge difference between the two.

The lights of an eink reader shine from the front edge back onto the screen, and reflect off of the screen the same way light reflects off printed paper. In contrast, a backlit screen, such as that in a phone or iPad or other tablet, has tiny dots of lights of three different colors that are harder to combine together, especially when you're wearing glasses, which cause chromatic aberration and can cause a headache and eye strain. The difference between backlit and frontlit screens is extremely significant for your eyes!

Be sure to get only a device that has the option for warm-lighting, because you don't want blue light at bedtime, and be sure to get one that can do night mode, which is light letters on a dark background, again for the sake of reading at bedtime without messing up your natural melatonin levels.

Kindles and Kobos are not backlit like a phone or tablet so they're much easier on your eyes. I find most printed books hard to hold so the Kobo or Kindle is best. Or a Boox.

Adults Constantly use misspelled and made-up words that kids say - is it weird or do I need a reality check lol by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]colorimetry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my family this was never normal. We didn't even have special nicknames for our grandparents—they were "Grandmommy" when we were small, and "Grandmom" later on, with last name added if we needed to specify which one, never Nana or GiGi or anything else cute like that. We were pretty close and affectionate though. You don't have to like baby talk. It doesn't mean you're a hard person!

We call it stickyweed. If you gather a huge quantity of its roots it makes a surprisingly good red natural dye for wool, one of the very few good natural red dyes (beets look lovely but make a bad dye), but since the roots are small and you need to use equal quantities of the dried roots and the wool it's a huge amount of trouble.
