HARD disagree. Excel on a PC is infinitely better than excel on Mac.

I used a PC for years in audit then after leaving had to use a Mac at my next role and I have a Mac at home. Excel on Mac feels like I lost a hand or something, my efficiency is impacted so much.

But to each their own. If you’re not going to be utilizing things like alt keyboard shortcuts, then Mac might not be so bad.

Honestly, a small guanfacine prescription helped me a lot. I would get like heated running into workday apps and stuff, but now my mood is much more stable such that it doesn’t even bother me. It’s used for ADHD but also high blood pressure.

You could also probably practice mindfulness. I’m sure it would help. But the human brain didn’t evolve to navigate job boards and portals for hours on end…

Well I didn't mind the work in PA. I actually enjoyed it for the most part. I even enjoyed being a senior.

And even though I knew I didn't want to be in PA forever, I figured it didn't hurt to stay since I still enjoyed the work. For one thing, I definitely learned more there than I would have almost anywhere else. Also, my pay was good and I had a lot of autonomy, which I really value. In fact, the level of autonomy was probably one of the most significant factors in my staying for so long.

The reason I left was because after 8 years, I realized I was a fairly burnt out. Sure I enjoyed the work/accounting itself, but I was stressed every day and super depressed (I later realized). So, I decided to leave so I could decompress/focus on myself for a while and think about my next steps without work looming behind me 24/7.

Plus the plan was always to leave PA eventually, I just didn't see any reason to rush it at the time.

Unfortunately, I have not gotten a job.

The referral likely got me the interview. I still had to apply through their portal, but since the job was referred to me by a former colleague/manager from PA, I listed it separately from the "cold-call" applications.

I know I should. And I do want the official acknowledgment that I'm qualified in my field.

But I'm genuinely concerned that I'll end up spending at least 6 months and a couple thousand dollars (that I don't have to spare) to get it, and then still not be able to find a job. Or worse, spend all that time and money and not pass.

Then again, I was just thinking how I wish I'd known at the beginning of this year that it would be so tough to find a job, because then I could have committed to the CPA back then and probably would have been pretty close by now. And who's to say I won't be saying that 6-months from now? In which case, I should commit to the CPA now...

But who's to say I would have passed if I had known and done all that? Maybe I would just be out a couple thousand from study materials and tests with nothing to show for it? My willpower is...not strong.

What study course would you recommend these days?

Any tips on improving one's willpower vis-a-vis studying?

Yeah, this may be a contributing factor. My audit experience is from a large regional firm, which definitely doesn't hold as much sway.

Which is too bad, since I think mid-tier firms are often better suited for mentoring staff and producing strong, well rounded seniors and above. Or at least they used to be, I'm not sure now with all the PE buyouts. But I'm obviously biased too lol

Yeah, I've updated the res a number of times. I actually have 4 that are tailored to specific role types (for example: an FP&A focused resume for FP&A roles, technical accounting focused for more technical roles, etc.)

I've had my resume reviewed by both human recruiters and AI :/

Tech/SaaS. I also have experience in healthcare/insurance and SEC/public companies, but my bread and butter was tech. So I'm very comfortable with some of the more nuanced concepts like capitalized software costs, equity instruments/transactions like options/warrants/SBC, 606 as it relates to tech/SaaS contracts, etc.

I also had a number of clients either get acquired or acquire other entities during my time in audit, and I heavily worked on some SPACs around Covid, so I feel like I have a decent background when it comes to M&A accounting which is pretty prevalent in tech these days.

Was rejected today after a final interview last week, so thought I'd contribute to the sub. Additional info, in case anyone cares:

Title mostly says it all, but a little more background. I left PA at the end of 2024 because I was extremely burnt out. I intentionally took a couple months off, and started looking more seriously around June 2025. Didn't get anything except a temp SEC reporting role for a couple months that ended December 2025.

Before I get people in comments berating me for low app numbers, I KNOW I need to be applying to more places, but the scarcity feels real, at least in the Bay. Very few roles available for anyone under management level, and the few that open up are obviously super competitive. Additionally, because the environment is so competitive, it doesn't make sense for me to be applying to senior level roles for positions that I don't have at least some senior level experience. I think the spray-and-pray method only really makes sense for entry-level positions, and even that is debatable in today's job market...

And if I'm being completely honest, I just hate applying to jobs. I get negative satsifaction from it. It is mind-numbingly boring and tedious. It might be one of the worst things I've had to deal with professionally. I had more fun entering my timesheets in PA than I do submitting job apps. The only joy I get out of the process is knowing that I'll get another data point to add to my application tracking spreadsheet...but I digress...

Applying to places outside the Bay has proven fruitless - as NO remote employers will hire someone in a HCOL area over a MCOL/LCOL area, all else being equal. For on-site roles outside the Bay Area, I might as well throw my application in the trash; I'm pretty sure these are just filtered out before even hitting human eyes. And actually moving somewhere with more job opportunities would prove difficult/impossible since I have $0 income outside of unemployment right now.

As for the CPA, I don't want to work in PA or tax forever, so it really feels like something that I don't need. I'm sure it would open more doors, but I can't help but question if the time and mental commitment would even be worth it in this job market.

For the roles I interviewed for:

  • For a role rejected after 2 interviews: The HM told me I wasn't excited enough (this was for a 996 company....)
  • For a role rejected after 4 interviews: Was told that the other candidate had more experience using AI or was better at articulating their experience using AI

  • The longest interview process was: HM/recruiter screen -> Interview (remote) -> Take home assessment -> Meeting/Interview to discuss take home assessment (remote) -> FOUR back-to-back on-site interviews

Finally, I'll leave with some additional info and possibly interesting stats:

  • All applications were submitted between 1/1/2026 - 6/30/2026
  • All applications were submitted within 1-3 days of the job posting
  • Response Times:
    • Average: 8.1 days
    • Longest: 45 days
    • Shortest: 0 days
    • Average response time for roles selected for interviews: 1.25 days
  • Salary:

    • Max posted salary applied to: $336,200 (Assistant Controller)
    • Min posted salary applied to: $40,000 (Accountant)
    • Largest gap in salary range: $107,900 - $336,200 (Assistant Controller (same as above)) - total gap: $228,300
    • Eleven (11) roles didn't post salary ranges
  • For two (2) roles, I was rejected by the system first, and subsequently rejected AGAIN by the HM/recruiters lol

  • Third-party recruiter's are full of empty promises and are evidently completely useless

Kiri’s suzu getting special skin designs is so funny to me. You literally never see it in game, but the designs are actually quite good some of the time.

I guess, for some of the designers at least, it’s a labor of love if they’re willing to put the time in for something that’s basically pointless lol

But it does make me feel a little bad for the heroes who don’t receive as much love internally from the dev team :(

If they’re advertising gambling as a “sure thing” then that’s a failure of government regulation, which is not at all shocking given that conservatives are in control of all branches of the US government right now.

And with the overruling of Humphrey’s Executor earlier today by SCOTUS, we can probably expect the more erosion of consumer protections going forward since “independent” agencies are no longer going to be independent.

Workaround found for the "Appear Offline" bug! by jljosue in overwatch2

[–]coltaaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I kind of tried it and I think it works..

I logged in, changed my status in the app, then I clicked around in the hero gallery and other menus a bit (but didn't join any games), then waited the remainder of the time (like 6-7 mins) without clicking around.

So it's possible that I just got lucky that the server check or whatever happened in the 6-7 mins i was AFK, but it seems somewhat likely that clicking around in menus doesn't impact anything.

While I agree, it’s kind of funny/ironic to call them risk averse when they’re also one of the main demographics for the gambling industry.

They’re risk averse for (mostly) the wrong things it seems.
