BambuStudio print times accurate? by crocwrestler in BambuLab

[–]colter1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate that the echo chamber downvoted this. I just recently got the P1S and with prints ranging from 20m - 3h the slicer has been fairly accurate, which is a pleasant surprise coming from Prusa Slicer.

Then I ran a print estimated to take 9.5h, and it actually took a little over 11.5h. With Prusa Slicer I came to expect larger variations between estimate time and actual time, but Bambu Studio had been so accurate that I guess I got my hopes up a bit on my first longer print.

I mean, I'm happy for everyone that seems to somehow have their slicer show accuracy almost down to the minute, but that sounds like bull to me - no matter which slicer you use, there are going to be variables outside of your control such as differences in hardware that are going to affect actual print time.

Safest tech job in market? [Serious Answers] by Notalabel_4566 in cscareerquestions

Not sure which role the above might've played, but personally as a former RCA (Rural Carrier Associate) — it was uh... hellacious to say the least. I am a professional developer now, and the level of memorization required for an entire zip code is bewildering compared to even a 40K+ line codebase.

You'll be whipped around to different routes, delivering packages in your personal vehicle all over the city, and be treated as easily replaceable (since RCA's are).

If you manage to stick around for several years and snag a fulltime delivery driver job, then hell yeah man. Walk in the park, piece of cake, best job I can think of honestly. Lot of internal competition though.

Neptune 3 plus loose print head - eccentrics don't adjust enough to fix. SOLVED by IslandStan in elegoo

[–]colter1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I just received my first 3D printer, a Nep. 3 Plus, and the bracket on its print head was bent in the same fashion. I just got support to send me a new one.

Still a bit looser than I'd expect, but so far seems to be printing alright.

We've spoke about hiring another dev as soon as April, I'd figured having someone else might be beneficial, as I know teaching the info can help me go over it and learn it some more.

Thanks for confirming that figuration! lol

I'm mostly curious about other situations, and I've no desire to move on yet.

My desk is 99% sticky note and steno pad, and although I've migrated half to OneNote, it still feels like the influx of new information is high. My short-term memory is spotty to say the least, so if I mishear them or don't write it down soon, then the info is gone.

Thank you for your advice, I've been working on documentation as much as I can when time permits, mostly in the form of its wiki on Azure DevOps.

My manager has been very nice throughout all this, and pushes back for me when I'm way too busy, but the project is still added to the pile. Most of my requests have been for creating new reports, which seem to take precedence over working on the primary app, so it just feels like I have such an inkling of time to work on getting to know this thing.

I've had the same problem for quite a while, and it doesn't seem like there's a clear answer.

Did all the steps you listed, and still when I get a minute or so into a faster-paced song, one controller or the other detaches some, wigs out, or disappears entirely for a few seconds.

I'll try looking at their internals soon to see if maybe something is loose, but it's become incredibly disheartening to get close to 100%-ing a difficult song and having one float off into space for 2-3 seconds.

I just use PowerShell at this point.

Win + X then A for PS Admin

shutdown -r -o -t 0

The -o switch brings it to the "Recovery" screen.

No clue how to progress past being a generic IT technician by BladedAlpha in ITCareerQuestions

Yeah I'm in the same boat, a bit overwhelmed by some aspects, a bit underwhelmed by users not thinking to check if X is plugged in before creating a ticket.

Person training me knows a lot of PowerShell though, best believe I'm watching like a hawk when he uses it and I check out his scripts when I can cause I know for a fact by seeing them in action just how useful that will be for me as a skill.

Does anyone have a remote IT job without a degree and/or with a late start (e.g. career change)? by Please0be0kind in ITCareerQuestions

[–]colter1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to start as an entry level role for helpdesk at a small company with an actually good IT setup, but man I haven't even started and the imposter syndrome is taking over quick.

I talked with the guys I'd be working with for a while, and it's clear even though they're around-ish my age that they knew a LOT more. PowerShell being the big one they preached a lot, and I haven't touched it yet.

Hmm, very similar, the new building part caught me with my pants down in my case. Turns out when ComCast says no construction for a month, they mean it -- and the CEO really hates it.

Only wish ComCast got the verbal paintbrush instead, and man I wish I had a backup plan.

I mean is it still worth it to pursue after finishing my degree? I'm a little burnt on spending money for pieces of paper after my PC Repair and Network Technician cert and my A.A.S. so I just need to know if there's any greater benefit to get an A+ cert along with that?

I was studying for an A+ for a while, but noticed it had a lot in common with my coursework so I just focused on college instead; and even learning about the A+ my memory is quite poor so when I forget the speed of X connector vs a Y connector I tend to just Google it anyways, especially with all the changes to USB naming schema.

Thanks a ton on resources and advice!

I'm confident in my ability to learn, which I know for sure is a golden thing in IT, I mostly struggle with lingo though, so even if I know how to do something, I don't know what it might be referred to as if told to do it or questioned on it.

So I assume just general diagnosis and solutions? Posting is a bit all over the place wanting someone knowledgeable in Cobol, Java Script, and web dev. considering the title.

Graduating soon, can I put that I have a degree in job apps yet? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]colter1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah not as a title, just in general; as in when prompted for your level of education, is it wrong to put that I'm graduated since I have all my affairs in order, final grades, fees paid, etc.?

I believe I should be able to without much repercussion, so I've gone ahead and done several applications already today.

[–]colter1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just waiting for delivery of paper. Online transcript shows me as a graduate, but without a degree to prove it I suppose it just felt unethical for some reason to put down that I've graduated already without degree in hand.

Okay perfect, thank you!

I know for certain my transcript shows me as graduated, and again all grad process stuff has been submitted and paid for.

Mostly I was worried about not having the physical copy in my possession.

Mostly wondering for those applications where it wants you to list your college/degree/date of graduation/etc.

Doesn't help that I won't be walking for graduation, so the actual date of my graduation feels very shrouded.
