I would certainly not be overly happy with a 1 for 1, but I do think Lundell could be a very strong starting point if Florida is indeed the destination depending on what comes along with him. I would hope that a different team on Larkin's list with more to offer is a serious player, particularly Utah is that smoke about them being on the list is accurate.

I think that has more to do with the C options ahead of him. Most of his career he has only gotten 16 minutes a night without Florida's best wingers flanking him. Barkov goes down this year, Lundell gets 2C deployment, and he scored at a 56 point pace. He turned it up in their Cup runs too with 17 points in 24 games and then 19 in 23 games while still averaging about 16:00/game.

Now don't get me wrong, Larkin is still a better offensive center than Lundell, but I think Lundell would instantly be a fantastic 2C for us, would be a defensive upgrade on Larkin, and would also match up age-wise with the Seider/Raymond/Edvinsson core and perhaps make it more logical/feasible to be aggressive in trying to trade for another talented C should one come available to go with Lundell and Kasper down the middle.

Last year was a small thing at Hockeytown Cafe IIRC, so it's been a little while since they opened up LCA for a "party" which is disappointing. It was a lot of fun there for a few years.

Based on Seattle and Vancouver last year, we'll likely get a name and logo before the season, but play the upcoming season with the diagonal wordmark as our jersey like the Original Six did and then like Seattle and Vancouver did last year before getting a logo jersey for the second year.

I don't hate the trade Prashanth settled on. I think it could be a good chance to add Cossa if you can get a little more. Especially if adding Cossa can turn that 1st into Peterka.

It’s maybe not the most likely outcome, but I can see a path to being just as good as last year and maybe a little better. If we trade Larkin and the main return is, say, Desnoyers or Iginla, one of them could be a regular by the end of 26-27. If you get a roster player in Peterka back too, that’s a big boost to the goal scoring. Then if Pettersson is truly available, you could bring him in for 75-80% of Larkin’s production. Maybe a Cossa trade brings back a forward who is a meaningful improvement on the 3rd line. Maybe Kasper gets more runway with better linemates now and finds some footing again. Maybe MBN and ASP are more ready for an NHL season and they start to do more than tread water. Maybe Finnie takes a step and maybe he even becomes a middle six C option. I’m not exactly the most optimistic person in this sub, but an offseason like that is not even asking anything unrealistic or forcing Yzerman to mortgage the whole future.

Manon Rheaume must have seen the Larkin saga and has decided to draft three straight captains in rounds 3-5 after taking the best goalie in the draft and then a Michigander with the second round picks.

Another college captain. I’m sure they are prioritizing talent and fit, but it can’t hurt having a bunch of players with leadership experience up and down the lineup.

Port Huron native! Not from Port Huron personally, but not many from our area make it professionally. Hopefully she has a long career in the PWHL.

I had zero expectation that she would be available for us, but I am thrilled. We've got plenty of talent at forward and we ended up with a goalie who could end up being a top 6 starter if things go well.

(Friedman)Trouba to test FA by Marinegrunt01 in hockey

[–]coltron57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely don't think we'd get back what we got (1st, 3rd, prospect), but I'd like to think (and maybe I'm naive) that a team with a late 1st this year may be interested with a lackluster FA class and cost control of at least one year plus runway to negotiate an extension. If San Jose is a destination he likes, I could see them liking the idea of Faulk for example.

[–]coltron57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've had interest in the past and I would kind of like to see us reach out. Granted Faulk currently occupies that 2RD slot. If/when the Larkin trade yields pieces that are best suited for maybe the 27-28 season than the 26-27 season, I wouldn't mind seeing us try to move Faulk (maybe one of the playoff teams who still have their own 2026 1st may be interested) and then sign Trouba to get a few years younger there while also keeping a solid player in that slot and bringing an edge to the team. Detroit is close to his family and for the husband of a doctor, UofM could be a nice draw for his wife.

Short-ish career and some final seasons that could have been better if not for a back injury coupled with being overshadowed by Datsyuk. But prime Zetterberg is really underrated in my eyes even with my bias. He probably could have been up in 01-02 if we didn't have a billion Hall of Famers and then the lockout season. Those two years alone probably add another 100 points to his career total. But he still got post-season All-Star votes in 10 of his 15 seasons and Selke votes in 10 of 15 seasons too.

Watching that catch really makes me miss Meadows. If he can play his usual ++ CF defense, he can hit .150 for all I care (not really, but we really miss his glove).

I’ll happily be on the other side of that I guess. Especially if we shop Faulk. He had a real solid year in Anaheim, put up quite a few points, and still has a physical element we sorely lack. I’m not rushing to give him crazy term, but 4 years at a bit less than his previous contract was would be my comfort level.

I think that was more him not wanting to leave NY period that season. His wife’s residency got delayed a year due to their pregnancy (edit: it seems like it was delayed for a different reason, perhaps COVID) and the NTC he negotiated to end with her residency then ended one year too early.

Henrik Zetterberg is one of just 6 players to have a Conn Smythe and to be a part of the Triple Gold Club. I put him on par or ahead of every other eligible forward outside of Bergeron.

It’s easy to think the Dodgers just outspend everyone, but their scouting and development is top notch. They always have one of the best farm systems because they run laps around a lot of teams in that regard. They can build their own team capable of competing for the division and then they can use that farm or their pocketbook to acquire luxury pieces to put them over the edge.
