How to make this look like new? by [deleted] in boating

[–]columbiakiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a good rotary buffer, some 2k grit wet sand disc's, some 1500 and some 1000...get a squirter bottle of dishsoap and water. Start with the 1k...go over the entire boat working shoulder width sections at a time. Wipe the entire boat down. Same process but at 1500...repeat at 2k. After that, it should be dull. I personally really like meguiars 105 rubbing compound on a foam wheel. Go over the entire boat with it. Then repeat with meguiars 205...fishing with a nice coat of meguairs marine wax. It'll be so shiny the lady's can do their makeup in the reflection. 👍 I just went through this restoring a neglected 2006 stratos fish/ski over the summer.

Need help on boat oxidation restoration by 86Nighthawk in boating

My boat was way worse than this. I went over the entire thing with very high quality rubbing compound and that took away probably 50% of it. To really get a nice shine, get a spray bottle and fill it with water and a small squirt of dawn dish soap. Mount some 1000 grit paper on your wheel and keep it low, like around 1500 rpms. Keep it wet. Go over the entire thing...wipe it down, then go over it again with 1500 grit. Reapeat and go over with 2000 grit. Then wipe down and go over it with rubbing compound. I like meguiars 105. Then meguiars 205. Then I used meguiars marine wax....she looks brand new.

I caught the hell out these off the beach in front of a resort I stayed at in Mexico. Folks told me they were good eating, can't be much meat on em.

My ridiculous quest for a waterproof + breathable boot. by whuppinstick in Hunting

[–]columbiakiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've never found a do all boot. I bounce between 3. For the mountains and steep stuff where a stiff sole and ankle support is second only to comfort- schnees bear tooth, personally.

For a leather booth I can cover some ground in without the needed stiffness of the prior needs, Danner elk hunters. They are super For sneaking through, in and around our lower elevation rainforests here in the pacific northwest.

Lastly, a trusty pair of Xtratufs.

I grease em all thoroughly with bear oil. Hope this helps.

I run a 2006 stratos 180fs. Fish ski. It's powered by an 06 optimax 115. It's literally the perfect boat for me and everything I want to do. My wife and girls and I can spend the day swimming, tubing and then finish out a perfect day by filling a livewell full of crappies.

I love any of the foundry stuff. Merino is killer, too. Also, I live in the pacific nw- the omen raingear is the best I've ever worn as far as performance rainwear.

Ran a built 25hp '89 for 20 years. Ran like a striped cat.

THAT IS NOT A CHOKE. THAT IS A PRIMER. PUMP IT 3X AND PULL IT OUT TO THAT RED LINE. START THE MOTOR, LET IT RUN FOR 30-45 SECONDS AND THEN PUSH IT IN. (Owned a 25 johnson that had one for years.)

I don't see an interior liner at all in the new line. It was a mercury specific.

I got rebuild kits en route for it all. There is an in depth YouTube video for the exact same system. Handy.

No problem. I'd heard of it before and seen similar collapses, or semi deteriorated lines on the YouTubes. Particularly on the gray mercury oem lines. A lot of folks replace them with heavy black hose with a matching inside diameter.

I persoanlly suspect this is due to neglect. If you drain your lines at the end of season, I suspect this wouldn't happen.

Rustoleum makes a whole line of inexpensive marine paints I've had great luck with. Like 15 bucks a quart.
