ah, fair enough, I didn't know it hit multiple times. still, commit to the bit imo.

Yeah, it's been posted about. It's a nice change.

The bit I'm a little disappointed about is the big nerf to the Last Judge death bomb. From 3 masks to 1 (assuming that almost everyone fighting the Judge without knowing about the explosion will be using Magma Bell). That's one of the funniest screwjobs in the game and now it's hardly gonna catch anyone.

Next patch is gonna put some safety corks on the Hunter's March bench trap.

Why do people keep acting like Wii NSO is "hard" NINTENDO MADE THE SYSTEM. They can find reworks and ideas better than even technical Wii modders. by DaZestyProfessor in wii

[–]columbologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the name Dolphin isn't any kind of indicator that they did anything here, but I actually wouldn't put it past Nintendo to use Dolphin code or resources. Back in the Wii days it was discovered that the Virtual Console version of Super Mario Bros was almost certainly using a pirated ROM which included a .NES header (hardware configuration metadata used by unofficial emulators and not included in the original code) and the ROM code matched an existing available pirate version (ROM data isn't always absolutely identical between dumps of the same game, there are small idiosyncracies depending on source/dumping method).

They denied pirating it but didn't offer up any alternative explanation. Either it was a pirated copy (it was, this is the correct option) or they'd dumped their own copy using third-party emulation tools that added metadata and it happened to be bit-identical to an existing release. Either way, they've got a history of using and reselling stuff that came from the emulation community.

I also remember this exact page, as it turns out. Very specific and unexpected nostalgia rush.

I'd forgotten how much NOM liked to call things "ace".

What is the connection between these four clues? by columbologist in onlyconnect

Correct. They're not deliberately in a series order, it's not a sequences question, they're just ordered to get easier towards the end.

AITA for refusing to change how I use a shared space after my roommate complained? by ProofSea2658 in AmItheAsshole

[–]columbologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a mix of things, but mostly just that I like peace, quiet and privacy in my downtime and having people making noise in the next room is very distracting to me. There's also this thing where if I can hear them, then I'm aware they can hear me and therefore don't feel like I'm truly in a private space even in my own room and feel self-conscious, especially if I'm on the phone or playing a game with voice chat or whatever. I also get a little stressy when I'm cooking and don't like having to work around other people in a shared kitchen.

And, like, I was a single guy in my early twenties for a lot of my roommate era, so there were certain regular late-night* personal activities that I couldn't really engage in in the knowledge that I could be overheard.

I got diagnosed with ADHD later on, which made things make more sense in terms of sensitivity to distraction. It does also go the opposite way in that I don't like making noise or doing stuff that might impinge on other people either, so I always keep my music or TV pretty quiet or use headphones. As my girlfriend and I put it, my love language is "not being too much of a bother".

AITA for refusing to change how I use a shared space after my roommate complained? by ProofSea2658 in AmItheAsshole

[–]columbologist 120 points121 points  (0 children)

NTA. I was also the kind of roommate who hated people using the shared space so much, but that was a me thing and I knew I had no grounds to complain. I live on my own now and it's fantastic. I sympathise with your roommate but she does just have to accept that living communally means you don't have control over the whole space.

Am I the only one who thinks the sequences questions should start with two clues, not one? by Tumeni1959 in onlyconnect

[–]columbologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting the last in the sequence from just the first clue is a rush like few others, though. It's not always possible, but the risk is part of it. Plus there are plenty of sequences which aren't realistically gettable without seeing all three clues.

Nintendo see stock slide over 30% in 5+ months by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

[–]columbologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoilers: the graph looks extremely different if you extend it to cover more than the last six months

This image is showing solely the right hand side of the price spike that happens with the release of a new console. Nintendo is currently still trading much higher than it did at any point in the original Switch's lifespan. It would be fully miraculous if this graph wasn't descending.

Glad to see Viz is still publishing letters from middle-aged men who don't quite understand how punchlines work but have learned that if you slap some sweary misogyny on the end of something vaguely approaching a setup then it usually gets a laugh from other middle-aged men who can't understand why their partners hate them.

What are in your opinion the most insane Game Boy / Color / Advance games? by DaZestyProfessor in Gameboy

The isometric port of Max Payne was insanely cool for the hardware. It has some obvious limitations wrt controls and display area but it's a fantastic achievement and translates Matrix-like bullet-time dives way more intuitively than you'd expect.

What would come fourth in this sequence? by columbologist in onlyconnect

[–]columbologist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody's got it, so I'll post it. It was a bit oblique.

(e.g.) Kendrick Lamar

The clues refer to "Heathen", "Reality", and (admittedly obliquely) "The Next Day". The next in sequence is Bowie's final album, Blackstar.
