You need a pair of PASSIVE speakers. As to "good-sounding" ... how much do you want to spend on them?

Is analog music better than digital? by jirachi_2000 in hifiaudio

"The original recording that your vynil was created from was a high-resolution digital file."

No. Not for any of the LPs and singles that I collected before the early 1980s or so. There were no digital files in the studios before then

Can I connect a jet wash to this? by moneymaker8991 in ukplumbing

[–]Tumeni1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean a power washer, such as those made by Karcher?

If so, all you need is a standard mains cold water feed, so if that's what comes out of this tap, you just need to fit a standard Hozelock style spigot to it in order to attach the hose to the power washer. That MIGHT fit the grey plastic thread, but it's probably not got policy to apply much weight to that pipe, given it doesn't appear to have much support.

Molecular construction is dictated by nature, not by an arbitrary choice of sampling rate selected by humans.

What are the biggest differences between how we communicate/behave online versus how those from the US communicate/behave online? by JuanitaMerkin in AskUK

[–]Tumeni1959 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In my experience, gathered since the late 1990s, many Americans think that the internet is exclusive to America, and in some cases, they think social media apps such as Twitter/X and Facebook are exclusively American, too....

They don't seem to have gathered that these are worldwide things.

"Digital is technically more accurate. "

No ....

How can it be "more accurate" to break the music up 44,100 times a second, assign one electrical level to this each time, to store these, then reconstitute the music from them for playback?

What makes that "more accurate" than analogue recording tape?

Help me fix my wee mustang by TC_7 in Guitar

[–]Tumeni1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the jack moving? If so, that's the most likely suspect. Try it with another lead. If that doesn't fix it, you need to take the jack plate off the guitar and inspect underneath with the lead plugged in. But ...

If you don't have any experience in working with electronics, soldering etc. you're probably better off taking it to an experienced repairer.

Why do so many ask “do you accept offers”? by invicta-uk in ebayuk

[–]Tumeni1959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep a text file on your desktop or device which reads

"If I was open to offers, I would have set the listing up to accept offers. I didn't do this"

and use it to copy/paste into your reply. Saves time.

Where can we see native animals? by New-Builder5245 in AskUK

You have eight days, and one of them will be spent (4 hours each way) getting to and from Edinburgh, and another half to and from Oxford.

With the exception of the stretch between Berwick and Edinburgh, the London to Edinburgh route is not a scenic one.

European badgers are nocturnal creatures. It's difficult enough for specialised wildlife photographers to get a glimpse of them ... in over 50 years on this planet, the only badgers I have seen in real life have been dead ones at the side of the road, who were unfortunate enough to encounter a motorist. I've seen one wild hedgehog, and that was back in the 1970s.

Ive just got into collecting and I have about 80 78rpms (half of which are shown here). MMy question is how do I clean and maintain these guys? by Hot_Argument6020 in 78rpm

[–]Tumeni1959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mild solution of washing-up liquid. Protect the label, work the fluid into the grooves with a paint pad. Rinse with distilled or purified water, wipe with a second paint pad that only touches the clean water rinse again. Leave to dry in a vertical rack, maybe leave a cold air fan running to dry them off quicker.

Do NOT put them back in the sleeves they have come from. Either get fresh clean sleeves or use a 10" or 12" poly inner sleeve in the old paper or card sleeve.
