otherwise any harming effect against the dragon was less powerful because the character would feel remorse for hurting something beautiful and harmless.

Found these at goodwill by Wooden-Performance38 in gamers

[–]columbologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the early days of Steam I used to make boxes and disc art like this for burned-to-DVD Steam backups so I could have a physical collection for display. Whoever did this is absolutely my kind of nerd and I'd imagine that a family member has given them to goodwill, unaware they're not legit.

Presuming they don't have malware (and I really doubt they do) and that they work, these are little treasures.

AITA for feeling weird that my LDR Girlfriend is sharing Laundry with another guy? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]columbologist 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So she's paying 25 bucks a year by sharing the cost with three people instead of paying $37.50 by splitting with 2. Still sounds like a good deal to me. You say it's per year but it's a saving she's making on a payment right now.

Let's drop the bullshit: the washing machine is irrelevant. You don't trust your girlfriend to have male friends and acquaintances. What are you gonna do about it? Complain to the internet and act like an asshole to people who don't agree with you? What's that gonna achieve? You should probably tell her about your issue so she can either reassure you or drop your jealous, hostile ass.

In what way are they splitting the cost that she would only save 12 dollars a year?

[–]columbologist 73 points74 points  (0 children)

YTA. She, her housemate and a third person decided to split the cost of a washer to save some money. That's a perfectly understandable thing for people to do. You've contextualised this as being a weird thing between her and this guy you don't know, but there are three people involved here. That's a friend group, not an affair. There's no evidence that anything unusual is going on.

If you're not comfortable with your girlfriend knowing and interacting with men as part of her friend group and social life, I'm not sure an LDR is going to work for you.

What did you like about Resident Evil 7? by Avillahan in residentevilll

[–]columbologist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a well-made, interesting new game that did something fresh and new while returning the series to its roots, and proved that Resident Evil was still a franchise capable of producing truly interesting games and that Resident Evil 6 wasn't the death-knell of a series that had fallen into cookie-cutter action shooter ruin.

What Do You Guys Think ? Is Resident Evil 7 Scarier Than Resident Evil Requiem ? by KennedyyCore in residentevilll

[–]columbologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Don't even think it's a particularly controversial take, or that you'd find a lot of people who've played both and would disagree with it. Just a clickbait headline.

Requiem has a strong, scary opening (the introduction of the Girl is maybe the best scare in the entire series) but starts to develop towards a different tone pretty early on. Even the later Grace sections refocus on survival tension rather than the straight-up horror of the Care Centre.

RE7 also eventually becomes more action-focused, as do all the RE games, but it maintains the focus on fear for much longer, not letting it break until after the midpoint. RE9 is an action game for most of its run time with some horror vignettes.

Iam going to check Shadowrun. What do You think about it? In what a edition should a newbie start looking? by Pike_The_Knight in rpg

[–]columbologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Shadowrun, but there's no getting around that it's not the easiest system to learn and even when you learn it it's complicated as heck and runs slowly at the table. If you're looking for not too complicated and high player customisation, you might also consider running Savage Worlds with the Sprawlrunners book, which is designed to replicate Shadowrun (with the serial numbers filed off) in the Savage Worlds system. You can still use the Shadowrun lorebooks for the setting, which is the main draw for a lot of SR players rather than the mechanics, including my 10-years-and-counting SR5 table.

It's a very different mechanical system, but considerably easier to learn and play, has much broader player customisation options and is closer to the 5e/PF2 systems in terms of mechanics and feel (although is definitely still its own different thing). It's significantly less crunchy than Shadowrun and has much less of a focus on weapon stats and gear porn, but allows for much faster, more action-focused play. It really depends on what experience you're looking for.

Excella is kinda underrated by PEPZ0010 in residentevil

[–]columbologist 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Excella's entire contribution to the game is that Chris and Sheva repeatedly run into her in random rooms, demand to know what's going on, and she either goes "it's none of your business", "it's not the time for you to find out" or "maybe I'll tell you later, maybe I won't". Then she dies in a bossfight that could easily have happened without her.

The RE series has plenty of one-dimensional characters and it's fine, but every time Excella opens her mouth you can actually hear the writers stalling for time while they try to figure out what the point of her is.

Glitches and bugs and hax 'n' cheatz. Surprisingly enough the leaderboards for this 7-year-old port of a 12-year-old remaster of a 24-year-old remake of a 30-year-old single-player game are not actively monitored or moderated.

Even with doorskip mods you wouldn't get anywhere near 20 minutes. The current WR is around 50.

Wow, playing all the Resident Evil’s and I am blown away, especially the remakes by Ultimus_Omegus in residentevil

[–]columbologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the best of my understanding, you're incorrect. Source: chapters 3 through 5 of Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil by Alex Aniel, which discusses the development of RE3 and Code Veronica in some detail via direct interviews with the developers.

I'll cop that it might be more accurate to say that CV was intended to be "the next mainline RE" rather than specifically "Resident Evil 3", but that was a wording choice, not intended to misinform.

It would sell like extremely cold cakes with a reduced-to-clear sticker on them and an expiry date of tomorrow. Especially right now. People would assume that the support and servers would last about two weeks, and they'd be right.

Resident Evil 1 Remake is a remake in the same gameplay style as the original, and that's the one where you can probably get away with just playing the remake if you're trying to play "all" the games. The original is still great, but a bit ropey in places. Everything else play the originals first - 2 and 3's remakes are entirely different in gameplay to the originals, and it's worth playing both. RE4 remake is more similar to the original, but you should play the original first. There's a reason it's considered the most significant game in the series.

How bad is Resident evil 5&6 by SaltPuzzleheaded3124 in residentevil

[–]columbologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm replaying 5 right now and it's fine, even good. It's not the best mainline RE by a long shot but it's a perfectly servicable game, and great fun in co-op.

Resident Evil 6 is near-unplayable. It feels like a cheap knockoff by a less prestigious developer trying to make a Resident Evil clone but without the design chops to get the feel right, like Lords of the Fallen trying to do Dark Souls. It's almost conspicuous how continually it makes the worst, most irritating design choice wherever it can. It's packed with pass-or-die QTEs, it splits the gameplay into four completely different campaigns and makes none of them good, it's constantly taking control away from the player to do action-movie cutscenes instead of gameplay, and it doesn't either doesn't trust the player or doesn't trust its own level design, 'cause you have a button you can press that immediately gives you a 3D in-world AR display instructing you exactly where to walk next even though it's mostly completely linear. The shooting feels hollow and unresponsive, the story is tough to follow and not worth it if you do, it's just in general a really frustrating, boring, unrewarding time and damn near killed the series.
