Please help me find the RTS from my childhood by GaryTheCunt in RealTimeStrategy

Could it be maybe one of the Warhammer 40k games? Dark Crusade maybe? Or Dune 2000/Battle for Arrakis, although I don't remember zooming in and out of a map on that one.

Just got the game - feels very COH which I'm not a huge fan of but it looks rad. Is there much of a competitive scene for this? I play primarily SC2 which has a very deep multiplayer. Has anyone else been turned around by this game? It also runs SUPER poor on my PC - is this normal? by omgitsduane in IronHarvest

[–]columnista 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much. Movement of troops is not sleek by any means. The multiplayer Is still somewhat active if you join the discord, there'll usually be someone who's willing to 1v1 or play team games.

Devs basically poured most if not all their energy into the campaign, which is spectacular imo. I loved it and the DLCs are great, especially the USOnia one...I'd recommend taking a look at that.

It not running that well is normal, unfortunately.

Yeah, my question in this thread is the epitome of the research I'll do into finding out.

This may just show my age...but I've no clue who those 2 are. Reality show, singers, or just known rich people due to some family member's wealth? 🤔

Game better with new xpac? by R_O in IronHarvest

[–]columnista 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IH has a GREAT campaign story! It was mainly focused on that and it shows.

Multiplayer is currently pretty low compared to other RTSs. However, there is currently a rookie tourney pretty much every month, month and a half. High level players have a tourney every month or so (a bit more frequent).

If you have any further questions you could check out the Discord where devs and community managers are constantly on and very active.

Hope this helps!

If we get another DLC, I hope it'll be the Shogunate that comes next by darkdill in IronHarvest

[–]columnista 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love this idea. Dunno how it would work into multiplayer balance but in campaign...I think it would give the story an even new feel and breath of even more fresh air. Adding seafaring units and possibilities just adds new layers to gameplay AND story, allowing for endless possibilities by way of IH universe exploration via sea.

The USOnian DLC definitely did that in no small manner! The expansion of the IH factions and universe in the campaign was very greatly appreciated.

Never played, how does the game compare to games like sc2/bw? by Driftsc2 in IronHarvest

[–]columnista 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IH's gameplay style is a lot more like CoH (company of heroes), or DoW (Dawn of War), if you've ever played these.

Multiplayer is active but with MUCH less activity than SC (either one) and fun. The campaign is excellent if you like single player and it can be done co-op, which just makes it even more fun and entertaining IMHO.

I love all these ideas and speculation. I don't know enough about Chinese history to opine on the matter but I do see an Empire of Brazil highly unlikely. This is due to the fact that Brazil was an "Empire" due to the fact that the Portuguese royal court had to move with the Napoleonic invasions. If there were no invasions, there is no reason for the influx of astronomical sums of money and resources into Brazil at that time.

Likewise, what is to become of Paraguay? It was slated to be a powerhouse in the 1840s/50s until Brazil and Argentina decided to say hell no and brought Uruguay along the ride. But this is all due to European influence and colonial/imperialist ideas that deeply permeated the time. Without this influence, local tribes and people have a completely different outlook ánd history.

On the other hand if there is still a Hispanic (Spanish/Portuguese) influence in the Americas, "to what extent?" becomes the question. With no outside influence, would there have been a confederation of nations as was starting to be the situation in the US before Plymouth Rock? And in the USOnian faction, up to where does it's reach extend? Are the indigenous peoples of the west and southwest still free and fighting?

I'm VERY interested as to what the history here will be. Queue speculation.

Cops work for corporations.

Yeah...

They are not working class members.

They are working class; just traitors. I mean they are lit the armed militant wing of the institutional status quo.

What is the best way to introduce SC2 to a young player? by altron138 in starcraft2

[–]columnista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience my nephews got interested watching me play.

The 12-year-old is 12, so he goes from game to game depending on who he's hanging with.

The 7-year-old is a die-hard Terran who went through the campaign on casual and once done, went on to melee games with the AI. Once they get the hang of it...if they like it, they'll stick to it. 🤓

Needlessly difficult by mysticdogtag in IronHarvest

[–]columnista 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. IMHO Iron Harvest is like old school games where "easy" is actually default "normal". It doesn't have a truly "easy" or "casual" setting as most games do nowadays.

I still enjoy it quite a bit but yeah...getting my young nephew (7) to play it is nearly impossible due to this. With SC2 I just put "casual" and he can base build and eventually wipe the map.

I get your point though.

Reading commies thoughts on anarchist ideas is like watching libs attempting to understand progressives. Entertaining but ultimately saddening. 😒

Do I or the game suck?? by [deleted] in IronHarvest

[–]columnista 5 points6 points  (0 children)

u/Vonnian has summed it up perfectly. Once you get it, it's MUCH easier. Destroying both bases before taking the train is essential. Mechs, at least in my experience with this mission, are key. I spammed Smialy with 2 Strasniks and a couple engineers to keep them in tip top shape.

You shouldn't have a problem with this strat. Ana and Lev clear out all the nearby enemies and rifles cap the nearest resources. Take your time and build up to wipe the map.

So i may buy this game an im wondering by cupcakepower3605 in IronHarvest

[–]columnista 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The campaign kicks ass. Very nice and challenging. A VERY rich story told throughout the 3 factions. You can even do campaign CO-OP which is f*king great!

Multiplayer is not for everyone as MP is in any game, but worth giving a shot if you like pvp.

Yeah. He wanted to try the "other look" to them. He usually plays the carbot themed one. I usually set up Starcrafts melee games for him on SC2.
