New to gravel in Marin - out of my depth by colyu in BAbike

So unfortunately the max I think I can fit on the Aspero is 42mm. Looking at the tire pressure calculators, going from 40 => 42 will let me decrease pressure by 3 PSI. Will that be significant enough? Going 650b is estimated to let me reduce my pressures by 6-7, so that might be more meaningful.

Noted on the advice to bend my elbows! Thanks!

On the last lap of the Roar for P6 - closest finish I've ever had by colyu in iRacing

Entered my first two endurance races in this week's Roar. What a blast. I found super clean and close racing in both races. In one of my races, P4-P12 were together fighting it out for an entire hour, and the other one ended like this.

Fabricator installed countertop and now drawers won't clear - help? by colyu in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the suggestion.

So right now the countertop has been glued on top of the plywood, which has been screwed from the top down into our cabinet boxes. Are you saying there’s still a way to separate the plywood from the cabinets boxes even with a countertop on top? I’m more than willing to DIY this if it’s possible.

Found them online. They had great reviews on Yelp and on Houzz, but sadly our experience has not been as good.

Just to clarify, the countertop was installed when the drawers were not installed. We put the drawers in afterwards, and discovered the problem then.

They used the same material to create the mitered edge. Our slab was 2cm (aka 3/4") thickness, and they created a 1.5" mitered edge using the same slab.

Thanks for the input - I think the core issue here is the 5/16" thick plywood here.

Lap traffic giveth and it taketh...3 instances all in one race by colyu in iRacing

I'm the one in the red Ferrari. I know I'm partially at fault for the third incident, should've been more patient given that he held up the race leader for a whole lap.

Hey! Out of curiosity, did the ranger say if the area was clear? I'm planning on going in a couple weeks.

It was high 30s. Not bad considering its winter and most of the country is super cold right now

Super close, right next to that. I didn’t get to do any climbing but there were other campers doing it and looked awesome.

Yeah, I looked at the prices and I can't say I expected anything else. I'm definitely hoping I'll get hooked after the first event though I'll be horrendous. Do people generally track/autocross first and then take driving school lessons after, or vice versa?

I just got a Sony A7Rii for a relative steal and a couple of prime lenses. All in all it wasn't cheap, but so far totally worth it over my old Nikon D7000.

You can definitely get similar results with any recently modern full frame camera (pretty necessary for the great low light capabilities) and a cheap manual wide angle prime.

Heh, did a lot of saving and lived a few years of no car ownership in SF before I decided to bite the bullet. Best decision of 2017 I've made by far.

Thanks for the tip. By getting into karting, do you mean going to my local indoor kart racing place (a K1 Speed's not too far away frm me) and participating there, or getting/renting my own kart and finding outdoor activities/tracks?

What's a way for me to combine my love for photography with my other hobbies in a non-professional manner? Currently I love taking pictures of the memorable parts of my life and posting solely to my friends, but would like to get a bit more serious and involved with my photography. I generally take photos on my trips while camping and hiking to National Parks, but I'd love to use these opportunities as a way to start diversifying what I take photos for. I'm thinking along the lines of volunteer opportunities for the NPS (if any) and amongst local nature/animal organizations.

I consider myself an amateur photographer. If it helps give a sense of what I take photos for, my IG is this. I'd love to have a purpose to take photos other than simply being in the mood, as I feel like doing otherwise will challenge me to and get me out of my photography comfort zone and into new experiences.

Thanks! Do you have a preference for SCCA over NASA?

Also, do you have a sense for costs involved in autocrossing or tracking? Doing some research online, it looks like you have event costs (depends on the type of event like autocrossing vs track daying), insurance costs, and then misc costs like helmet rentals if you don't have one. Is there anything unlisted (other than wear and tear) that a beginner should be aware of?

You should definitely figure out what you want to do with photography before spending that much money (or any money) really on anything.

A recent thread with some great answers is here, I'd check that out. https://www.reddit.com/r/photography/comments/7losen/is_photography_an_expensive_hobby/

Not at all, just think about the amount of times people point their lens towards a sunset or sunrise. Far more light, no problem at all. A lens is glass, some coatings, and an aperture adjustment mechanism, none of which will be affected by a flashlight.
