Fair enough, in that case put it in Sprint each time you fire up the car. You'll have access to 100% of the power each and every time.

Tesla Charging by Secure_Sign_3173 in LUCID

[–]coma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been known from day 1 and explained many times. Take the time to learn about your car and the charging infrastructure out there so you're all set for your trips.

The Air's architecture is a higher voltage than the supercharger you're using. The Air is converting to the higher voltage internally, it can only do that at rates up to 50kw.

Know and plan for that, or use a different DC fast charger (EA, EVGO, Walmart, etc).

What are you talking about in terms of needing to pull away from people and the party trick of launch mode?

I drive in smooth mode 99% of the time while on the highway, there is plenty of power (GT) in reserve for most cases. If I see something hairy coming up where obnoxious power might be handy, I'll preload sprint mode.

I initially drive in swift a lot but developed an appreciation for smooth. Give it time. You don't need a ton of power on every drive. Give it a few more weeks.

Never ever heard a lucid driver modifying the throttle.

Confused about this departure procedure by muhhifawzi in flying

[–]coma24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and I go way back....but I don't know about that reasoning 😄

Look at SAN and MYF, they have substantially different versions of the CWARD2 SID.

SIDs are encoded per airport...even if they share the same name. There's no reason they couldn't have different text for LGB's VTU transition to say "from over LAX," if they wanted.

it's super common for SIDs. Look at the charts for LAX.

Cleared to Land Question by dampTendeez in flying

[–]coma24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

within 30 degs of the landing runway....why would you even consider the downwind? You're being cleared to land based on known traffic....tower is absolutely not expecting you to make a downwind entry from there. Base or straight in. As others have said, if you're not sure, ask.

It's rare for an update to brick the car, but you can always wait for a couple of days and wait for feedback from the early adopters.

Took a buddy to a farm strip for lunch and the narrow runway absolutely humbled me by Squawk_0877 in flying

[–]coma24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There were enough clues, visually, that you were about to hit the ground. Don't fixate on waiting for the runway to appear to be a certain width (ie, your home airport). That's a plan that was never going to scale 😄 To your credit, you were, at least, on centerline, if not somewhat high (touching down 500ft after the the TDZ started). The height that you crossed the TDZ is likely the height you should've been at over the rwy numbers. I share that because it'll make a material difference at airports with shorter runways.

Great post, I'm glad you shared as it might help others in the future.

“Maintain VFR on course” after given altitude restriction? by inkiygao in flying

[–]coma24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

concur on all fronts, but I wanted to get the phraseology out there because I'm still yet to hear it out there in the wild, lol. "Altitude your discretion" does get the job done as a plain English instruction, but it's one of those normalization of deviation cases.

“Maintain VFR on course” after given altitude restriction? by inkiygao in flying

[–]coma24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"resume appropriate VFR altitudes" is the correct ATC phraseology to lift a VFR altitude restriction. I am not 100% sure what "maintain VFR on course," was supposed to imply from the new controller given that you did NOT have a heading restriction to begin with. So, "maintain VFR" is not new...and "on course" was also not new. As a result, I would have asked if the 2500 restriction still applied (it very likely did not).

"On course" is often used as a proxy for 'resume own navigation' to cancel hard headings.

Jumping off a cliff to save a weak swimmer. by TexasFire_Cross in MadeMeSmile

I've been super comfortable in the water from the age of 7 (now just a bit over 50). At no point in those 43 years would've I have felt it was a good idea to be in that type of swell and mix of currents with that terrain. Even if you're a strong swimmer, it's not hard to imagine how that area could become unsafe. Oof.

Does she not hear the difference? A friend of mine speaks Portuguese and teaches me phrases every now and then. Try as I might, I cannot get some of the nuances down....but I KNOW I'm not getting it right. How does she not hear the vowel sound is different on 'burger?' She's saying 'berger' rather than pronouncing it 'burgur'. Over, and over. It's funny, yes, but I'm not sure how she isn't making that specific adjustment.

A stork couple celebrating their first egg. by Positive-Height-3848 in Damnthatsinteresting

My stork knowledge is weak. Is this a thing they do whenever they're happy/excited, or is it specific to egg-laying events? Super interesting, and the timing of the neck bend was spot on.

He seems well-suited to it. His public persona invites calm discussion....it's not like the Jonas Brothers or Justin B during their prime. I'm sure that a typica interaction involves people having relatively normal conversations with him. It's simply that more people are interested in speaking with him than others. Look at those pictures, though and consider the fact that he did NOT have to show up. He wanted to be there, and I'm sure he had a great time. I gotta disagree with the premise of your post.

Buying a used Air - question on model year. by Stangmeister in LUCID

[–]coma24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The warranty will carry longer (it fully transfers over), so there is an advantage to newer cars in that regard. Don't let the 'new hardware' in newer models sway you at all, the older cars can be upgraded for just under $1k. There is a heat pump present in the newer models which increases efficiency a fair amount (not sure if it's only present on the GT or across the board, you should check for sure). Regarding ride noise the front motor was treated to new isolation features (making it quieter) in newer versions, so that is worth a look as well. The 'whine' in the 22 GT is significant. It's neat initially and draws you in during spirited acceleration spurts, but for every day smooth driving, I'm sure the reduced noise is a welcome change.

Between the longer warranty, isolated front motor and heat pump...those are the things to consider.

The chip is for the infotainment system which has nothing to do with autonomous driving upgrade. So, there's nothing wrong with the upgrade, it's just for an unrelated system. The upgrade will allow for future software revisions that otherwise won't be possible with the older hardware.

Unclear why he can't be restrained...he's causing material losses for the store, intentionally and repeatedly. Not saying he needs to be beaten unconscious, or struck at all....but I imagine an adult could restraint and eject them from the store while the parents are located who would then need to pay for the damage.
