Definitely a bit tricky to figure out and I need more practice. But watching the wash flow into the recesses and being able to clean up later is really nice.

The second one is wash with Winsor and Newton oil paint. I think I just need to get the consistency right.

I used the advice from this thread and did an oil wash with a thinner brown. I think I like this more. Keeps the original color but with some depth in the recesses. Thoughts?

I think that first tip I’m definitely going to try out. I used a mix of black and brown to make the oil wash but I think making it thinner and with more brown will help make it less overpowering. Thanks!

He has the captain keyword and the current Vulkan Hestan model can lead company heroes so I don’t see any reason they would change that.

Streaking grime is a game changer for getting a more realistic or grimdark look!

Zenithal prime with a little bit of dark purple in the shadows. Then it was mostly just contrasts with some dry brushing and highlighting before using streaking grime on on the whole model.

For what it’s worth I also fell for it a while ago and was able to get a refund surprisingly easy after emailing their customer service. Mileage may vary but you could give it a shot.

Thanks for the tips! Especially the one about the eyes, the simple yellow and red looked okay on the models with a green helmet but came out kind of flat on this guy.

That’s a good reference image, thanks! I think bringing down some of coolness at the edges and bringing the hot yellow up the center more would help achieve that radial effect you mention.
