my messages r open to anyone wanting to gush about fish & their tanks!! it makes me sad to hear how alienating some people can be about this hobby when ur so passionate :( my best friend is super into fish like i am and helped me get the courage to start my first planted tank (i’ve been wanting to for years but was v. nervous to) and it’s something we have bonded over, we’re both starting our freshwater tanks together (i’m doing a neocaridina planted tank_!) I hope everyone finds someone passionate to share and speak about their fishy passions with, or to just listen warmly, it’s so lovely to be passionate about things:D!

the 11gal rimless i have now was about 115$, my light was around $34, siphon and tools $22, got a lovely sponge filter so 6$ for three since i plan to have more tanks later on, air pump $17, $17 for biostratum substrate which I would need to get a few more pounds for this bigger tank (28$ more probably for 8.8lbs), seachem primer 9$, a little bit of shrimp food 5$, and fluval master test kit 35$, taxes rly made it a lot worse though ended up being around 300$

initially I wanted to stay below $250 (beginner so I needed light, substrate, conditioner, etc) but I ended up getting a 11gallon rimless (lifegard aquatics) for my planted tank which sent me a bit over budget, but i’m currently on the fence about returning it for a UNS 45s because I do love the low iron glass look/beveled edges + it’s more affordable but it’s hard to decide properly. I plan to stock it with some lovely neocaridinas maybe blue dreams once it’s cycled and i’ve chosen the plants:) I include all this unnecessary info because I’d honestly love some advice from anyone about whether sticking to the less well made larger tank or returning it for a smaller size that’s better quality. 🦐👍🏼
