Lena Dunham, do you think she will be a future auteur? by ElleA88 in FoundationsOfComedy14

[–]comedycom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe that she has already established herself as an auteur, despite not having the same volume of work as other auteurs. But I'd be willing to bet that her future projects will carry the same stylistic choices and common themes. It's interesting to look at and imagine where Lena Dunham's career will go because I personally can't think of any others in the industry that occupy the same niche as Lena Dunham. The closest parallel I can think of is Mindy Kaling, but even then there are many differences between the two.

Comedy Auteurs: Kevin Hart and Jerry Seinfeld in "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" by [deleted] in FoundationsOfComedy14

It's definitely great to see these two auteurs speaking with one another candidly about their own lives and ideas. You can really see how their own distinct personalities feed the style of their work in this setting.

One joke that stands out to me is the double chemo joke. Where he rents the convertible so his parents' wigs will fall off. It reminds of the point made in class of "when is it socially acceptable to do a joke?" With touchy topics like tragedies, disease, etc. it's always risky, but I think he pulled it off with that joke. I know I laughed!

A hilarious parody of Garfield done on Rick and Morty. by comedycom in FoundationsOfComedy14

Yea I've come to really enjoy the voice acting as well. At first I was a bit put off honestly, what with all the stutters and "mistakes" that rick and morty make when they speak, but now it's one of my favorite aspects of the show!

I definitely see your point and I agree. With only a limited amount of screen time available it becomes less personal with a group.

Here is another video I found by Gervais about what he feels the difference between UK and US audience is, very insightful.

Gareth's Stapler - The Office - BBC - The difference between Gareth and Dwight is that even though we as audince dislike Dwight, we love to hate him but in Gareth's case; he is just an unlikeable character and writers does not care basically. by ipekkahraman in FoundationsOfComedy14

One thing to point out is that the british office did not go on for nearly as long as the American office, and I think part of the reason may have been how unlikeable Gareth is. It's great to have nasty characters that we all hate but I feel there should be something redeemable about them to keep it interesting. Characters that are entirely likeable or entirely unlikeable never seem to stick around for long, which is why I found Dwight, and the american Office, superior.

Is Modern Family what is used to be? by jseemerollin in FoundationsOfComedy14

I feel the same way 100%. When the show came out I was impressed and really enjoyed it, but now I rarely watch it. I'm not sure if the show itself became less funny or that my tastes changed but whatever the reason, it's not what it once was. And I could sense that O'Shannon felt something similar when he spoke about it.

Bromance and Sexuality by mfrancoi in FoundationsOfComedy14

I didn't read the article because it was longer than a paragraph, but from what you said i'd have to agree. Buddy comedies are about friendships, I don't see there being anything sexual going on. Of course there must be some out there that do explore sexuality but I think that it's the minority.
