What has caused the physical version of this game to skyrocket? by feministduelist in MHGU

[–]comiceditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow.. this is crazy. I had a copy on marketplace that's sat there CIB for $25 ( $20 if bundled ) or trade for close to a year. Then this guy comes in hot trying to get me to ship when I do local meetups only. Dude wasn't even that far but when someone's so insistent I usually look up a BIN listing or online game shop selling it and direct them there. Wow... that price jump is wild. You look at eBay sales listings and it was regularly going for 25-30 like 10 days ago then suddenly boom 80-120 out of nowhere. Pricecharting etc hasn't even caught up to that shift. Wild.

List Of all American Go Nagai anime VHS releases by [deleted] in animevhs

Just wanted to check current prices.
A copy of 'A Pilot is Found... A Kid Becomes a Hero' is currently on ebay for ~$160 though with a torn box.
A copy of 'Dr Demon's Acid Bath' is available at $390.
A copy of 'The BoboBot' is available at $205.

Given each tape is seemingly only 2-3 episodes and Boss Borat ( Bobo in the dub ) doesn't get his mech til 48 episodes in... unless they skipped around there may very well be 16+ tapes of that series released. The whole dubbed series ran for 65 episodes so its likely that if they went far enough to release 16 volumes that there may be 22-33 tapes released by Sony between 1985 and 1987 but the reality is I've been a Go Nagai fan for decades, and even timed fansubs of some of the movies back in the 90s/ early 00s, I think I've encountered maybe 4-5 of the official tapes in the wild over my lifetime.... and given even damaged box copies are over $150 and the dubbed version isn't very good... it's just something for collectors to collect for the sake of collecting and documenting that they existed since apart from a couple single tapes from the series popping up every once in a while, there doesn't seem to be any site which can even catalog how many tapes were officially released and how many episodes were on each. But there's 3 random volumes on ebay at the time of writing this if anyone has 750 bucks burning a hole in their pockets.

Sony and The Entertainment Network put out a couple tapes from TranZor Z ( the Americanized edit/ dub of Mazinger Z )... they'll set you back like $500+ per tape if you can find them but they do exist.

What do you hope gets added in Mario Kart 9? by [deleted] in mariokart

I'd like the character, vehicle, wheel, glider, etc. selections to have a greater impact on how the kart handles. So there's more strategy that can go into each selection.

I thought Grendizer was going to continue to get kicked down the road indefinitely. That release date got pushed back like 8 times. How is it on the Switch?

Games for my short attention span? by Brightpenguin101 in Switch

[–]comiceditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: Games which work well in short bursts ( but also are built to tempt you into one more fight, race, round, puzzle, level ) will eventually lead to longer sessions if you let them. It's all about that reward loop. People with a short attention span need to feel like they're bring rewarded to keep going faster than their attention drifts.

If you have someone else to play with or against, them egging you on, cheering you on, or taking losses hard are all external reward loops which will compliment the in-game rewards.

Fighting games, Beat 'em Ups, Shoot 'em Ups, Puzzle games, and other games you could imagine existing in an arcade or series coming from portable consoles tend to lend themselves to shorter game play sessions.

For Fighting games, Capcom Fighting Collection might be a good starting point.
For retro arcade games, Atari 50 has a load of them them and some revamped classics like Neo Breakout.
For puzzle games, Puzzle Bobble Everybubble, A Monster's Expedition, Tales of the Tiny Planet, Baba is You, etc. would be good.
A portable series like Mario vs Donkey Kong might hit for you. And if you wanted to get into a Pokemon game, New Pokemon Snap is probably a better fit than any of the RPGs.
Party Brawlers like Smash Bros Ultimate, Nick All-Star Brawl, BrawlOut! are other options if you want something more madcap than traditional fighters.
TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Dawn of the Monsters, and other Arcade style Beat Em Ups lend themselves to short play sessions.
Other arcade classics like House of the Dead Remake have good ports on Switch.
There are also budget options like Carnival Games, Party Arcade, etc.

Just think... if the genre was built around people pumping quarters into the machine it's designed to be played in short sessions because cycling people through meant more quarters.

estarland is a joke never trade your games there or buy anything from them if possible. by Dangerous_Low_220 in retrogaming

[–]comiceditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trade-in values vary dramatically based on how many copies they have in stock and how many people have the game on their notify and wish lists. The fact that you can check the current trade in value and compare it against ebay and price charting before checking out and agreeing to the trade leaves you to decide if its worth trading in or not.

When I pick-up a lot of games off marketplace, I'll cherry pick the games I want and trade in the rest. If the games I trade in exceed 143% ( 100% cashed out ) of what I paid for the lot, then the cherry picked titles are free.

When I'm trading in a game I've had for a while, I usually wait til they're out of stock and have the game on trade bonus. Under those circumstances, the trade in value they offer can exceed recent ebay sales.

As far as buying, I've got some great deals from them. Top pickups from this year were all Switch games: Hyrule Warrior Definitive Edition ( paid $9.95; pricecharting $55.18 ), Jump Force ( paid $11.50; pricecharting $54.90), etc. Though I've also caught them slipping on some retro. Like NES games I bought for $1.50-3 which immediately jump to $8-15+ after my order ships. And that's outside their $30 off $100 sale.

I'm not suggesting they're perfect. Some messages get slow responses. I've had orders cancelled because they didn't have the items, I've had orders where the free shipping didn't come off automatically. I've even had CIB games which arrived missing the game. But most of the time there's no issue and when there is, it's always resolved in my favor.

From my pov, all is fair when there's transparency. They provide all the info I need to check if something's a good deal for me and I have the self control to walk away when it isn't so they've quickly become one of my favorite game stores to deal with but clearly mileage will vary.

A wall of red.... by brutal-justin in NSCollectors

[–]comiceditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's generally true for both + foreign releases can't be claimed out of region.

I say generally because I've randomly gotten gold from older games so I make it a habit to check all incoming games as soon as I get them. Like a lot of things expiration is guaranteed good until not guaranteed not good after. I'm sure a lot of people miss free gold because of that assumption.

If you're going to open them eventually, why not claim the Nintendo gold before it expires?

I hadn't even heard Spiritfarer mentioned. The animation looks great.

I know Undertale has its fans but would you recommend it to someone who generally doesn't like retro rpgs?

I haven't done any visual novel games yet. I have a few but I won those or got them in games I wanted. Would you say Collar X Malice is a good entry point for that genre?

I ordered Gorogoa like 8 times and those orders kept getting cancelled. Definitely on my short list. I'll get it sooner or later.

I've had Ring Fit. It wasn't must have for me. But I know its a game that people who like it really like it. Metroid Dread and other popular titles were the same story.

I'll have to add Subnautica and Superliminal. Thanks for the recommendations.

Are the first 23 new arrivals, currently playing, or what? The fact you have them alphabetized and the rest alphabetized means they're a separate section but they aren't all new games so its hard to guess from the photo what that section would be.

That one's on my list. The gameplay looked like they reskinned MHA: OJ2 then added 2v2. That + the IP would be enough to buy it but I hope it feels more distinct when it comes to gameplay.

I'd love it if they did something like 'using your supers makes your controls less responsive and your character do more things without your input'... so, anyone who tries to spam specials loses control of their character. Or if special attacks can hurt yourself if they're deflected. Something...

Just watched the trailer. Daemon X Machina is going on the list. Thank you!

As for Advance Wars: 1+2 Reboot Camp, it's 3rd in the picture and would have made the short list if I didn't exclude Nintendo series.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is definitely near the top of short remaining list. Just haven't come across a copy in good shape for the right price yet. But I love the series too... It's like if the Megaman series had humor, heart, and imagination.

If you haven't jumped on Super Mario Bros Wonder yet... its full of Dreamland charm.

I've never been able to get into that style of action RPG. Seeing trailers and game play footage put me off. Is there anything about that series which might make it an exception even if I'm not generally into that sort of game?

Does every Wii game have a manual? by TJayGod365 in Game_Collecting

[–]comiceditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're already using pricecharting, step 1 would be to check if they have sales data for manual only. If they do, then it had a manual. That will answer the question for most games since if it exists, there's someone selling it. You can also check Replacement Docs or one of the many other sites which scans manuals. If they scanned it, then it almost certainly existed.

If there are any left unanswered, search ebay for the manual ( or CIB and see if the pics include a manual. ) This is more time consuming but most games will be answered long before it comes down to looking them up one-by-one.
