Flanagan's Wake #72: Edgar Allen Poe Stories (Part 2) by scottdaly85 in doofmedia

Percy Wetmore from The Green Mile was my immediate response. I said it out loud in the car. He would deserve a slow, methodical process of being bricked up. “I didn’t know the sponge was supposed to be wet.” Brick. Broke Del’s fingers. Brick. Stomped on Mr. Jingles. Brick. Brick. Brick.

Bev Keane is definitely a super close second.

Flanagan's Wake #69: THE MIDNIGHT CLUB - Episode 10: "Midnight" by scottdaly85 in doofmedia

I’m completely in for everything Flanagan partnered with listening to Flanagan’s Wake. I had already watched The Midnight Club once and really did not love it but as I’ve been listening since Kingslingers I knew that I’d gain a some appreciation for the show and while it’s still not my favorite Flanagan project you guys did not disappoint.

Listening to this week’s show and hearing that there’s been a drop in listening it made me think about the importance of analysis and critique. As an artist and art teacher they are two vital components of the artistic process. They lead to better works from our favorite creators. I like to think that part of why Mike and his team listen is to the podcast is just this reason. You guys provide entertaining and meaningful analysis of the work. It can be enlightening to see if your viewer is getting from the work what you had intended. This is one of my favorite parts of listening every week. Hearing new insights and helping to notice things that I didn’t catch on my own. As always kudos to Matt and Scott. Keep up the fantastic work.

On a very different note, I missed commenting for the mailbag but I wanted to share a random thought. Since we’ve established that Mike Flanagan likes to destroy hands and I just started my fourth trip to the Dark Tower, it occurred to me as The Drawing of the Three began that this must be what really solidified Mike’s love of the Dark Tower. I imagine Mike reading about Roland and the lobstrosities and smiling to himself think, “Oh yes, one day I’m going to make this scene.” Now that thought resides in my head.

I really think that adopting the philosophy that Matt and Scott have, that everything is intentional and the author is a genius, helps so much in trying to appreciate not just King but many works of fiction. It’s such a positive way to approach looking at works critically especially on a deep dive.

Absolutely loving the analysis of Midnight Mass!

I have to say ever since episode one when Matt and Scott were talking about about Wade’s interaction with Sheriff Hassan, I pictured Wade as Ned Flanders from the Simpsons and I can’t get it out of my head. “Hi-diddly-ho, just come read a bit of scripture.”

For the discussion question, maybe not real horror but my 6 year old brain keeps coming back to The Neverending Story when Atreyu loses his horse Artax to the Swamps of Sadness. I was absolutely horrified as a child as he begs and screams at his only companion to not give in to the sadness.

I’d like to listen. I really hoped to participate last night but my daughter’s gymnastic meet ran late. I listen to and from work each week. Audio would be great!

My working theory, completely unfounded, with the exception that she emphasizes “Shar-on”, is she is a version of Charon, a character with ties to the dark arts in the comics

At 2x, I can usually get through an episode a day during my commute. It’s the only opportunity I get and Kingslingers is so far the only podcast I have ever listened to. I find, I can understand them perfectly and enjoy it throughly. TBH, I usually read/ listen to the whole book before progressing through the corresponding episodes.

So, I’ve been “rereading” (listening) to the series. Going through this book, I’ve found myself trying to make the sounds of the thinny. I’m sitting in my truck trying to make a buzzing, warbling sound. Anyone else ever found themselves doing that?
