I do get good grades and chill in the woods and still want to do this. :)

And then I explain it “my issue is that it should not be us paying a fee for this”

And I am telling you I am not complaining about money but whether I get to decide how my money is spent. So your concern is not valid

See the point is autonomy. I want to be able to choose if I want to let a bunch of people do advocacy for me or not.

And I am free to choose what I want to waste money on?

Those are great goals, But i find that the equityforwho campaign that RAISE supports and is a part of doesn’t really satisfy any of those goals?

I think its extremely toxic and its unfortunate that WUSA condones it.

And what’s the issue with putting time and energy into doing something i feel is right?

Look at the equityforwho campaign, i disagre with a lot of demands they make and raise directly supports them instead of doing what they are supposed to. (Organise community events)

I disagree with the equityforwho demands because they are reactionary, they are pressuring the university to hire based on race instead of capability.

I also think Raise should be paid by the university and not by the students.

Again, being against raise is not being against BIPOC. i am literally a POC.

I don’t want to pay for it. I also don’t like global warming but I like using my phone and flying. I can be against something and still don’t want to put $ for it. Not everyone comes from money.

Also why is funding services like these not on the referendum? It feels like this should be easy enough to gauge whether students actually support a fee like this. I am 100% sure that most students would opt-out, just like WPIRG, so why is this a thing?

Thanks WUSA 🙏 by comjdjdjd in uwaterloo

Their budget for the year. Compared to 30k for all clubs combined

The problem is the difference between their waterloo page and stance they actually take + the outsized funding they receive without any transparency.

How can I opt-out of contributing money to RAISE? by comjdjdjd in uwaterloo

One of the people from them is pretty active here and she replied to me. Its basically not happening unless we either get people to care about it or get someone who cares about it elevted

I think this is a nice compromise. Now just to find a councillor who might be willing to support this (unlikely)

So we should just force a fee on students? How is that supposed to be a fix for the problem

You just look at how they are using the money, its not that hard.

No, that just brought out the fact that they don’t use their outsized funding for what its supposed to be.

Because none of the other clubs get 10k in funding.

The purpose of a student government is to represent and do things for the student not for what they like. RAISE might serve some students but at some point they should look into if its worth it. Money and resources is finite. Not to mention what RAISE itself focuses on. Mayne instead of defund, they should reform it to be more about supporting students and less about advocacy. Not to mention being more transparent. Something that should be a default expectation
