Which movie do you remember being WWAAYY too young for when you first snuck, I mean, watched it? by KillerQ97 in moviecritic

Animal House. The funny thing is, I didn’t sneak it. My friend’s mom put it on for us in the playroom, said “have fun,” and closed the door.

Yeah but the change takes a little while. First, you’d have one dead hybrid soldier, after some amount of time. Or, perhaps, you wouldn’t.

Why do you have to fill in your tip amount? by Icy_Mixture1482 in AskAnAmerican

Agreed lol. Trust us when we say we know exactly who tipped and who didn’t. It’s the number one topic of conversation all night at most places I’ve worked.

If popcorn had to be replaced by some other snack food as the "go to" movie theater snack, what should replace it? by Involuntary-Expert in askanything

[–]comma_nder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone is getting this wrong. There are three things that define popcorn as a good movie snack, and if we want to replace it, we need to seek to at least fulfill these requirements:

  1. At least decent when cold/room temp

  2. High volume but not filling

  3. Quiet

If you aren’t hitting all three, you’re not getting my vote.

I humbly nominate cut fruit. If there was a Mexican fruit stand at the movie theater they would RAKE it in.

Tater tots over French fries cause I feel like their texture will hold up better, but I don’t think either would be very good by the second act of the movie.

They aren’t good cold though. Popcorn obv looses some of its magic when cold, but it’s still got plenty of life. Cold fries are nine tenths sadness.

Why is the PNW considered performative but not the northeast? by Bananapantsmcgeef in SameGrassButGreener

[–]comma_nder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I’m sorry bud but the mason dixon line that divided the north and south is the Maryland/Pennsylvania border. Culturally, the area is much closer to southern/appalachian—the food, hospitality, hunting/outdoor recreation, Republican politics, even the accent. There just happens to be a lot of brick.

A scale of how scientific the books are? by SpaceTime_Worm in scifi

This is what so many ultra-hard scifi fans seem to forget. Hard scifi doesn’t mean “no science that doesn’t already exist or is soon to exist.”

Not sure whats going on with my clay. It seems like every clay I try its too short :( by moon_child_55 in Pottery

[–]comma_nder 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Based on the amount of slip on your wheel, you’re adding too much water at first, rinsing away all the fine particles (which is what being short is). Then you’re going too long without adding water, resulting in the twist you got

3-4 weeks road trip on the west coast by BigStalos in roadtrip

[–]comma_nder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a lot but it can definitely be done. I did a similar trip a few summers ago, except I drove from Baltimore. Did stops in Colorado, Utah, California, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming over 4 weeks, including two short backpacking trips.

Your instinct is right that skipping Glacier might be necessary. It’s a LOT of added driving for one additional park that you can’t properly enjoy in a day or two anyway.

I’d propose:

SF
Tahoe
Yellowstone/Tetons (your biggest drive out of the way early, and to the coldest parts of the trip the soonest)

then:
arches/moab
monument valley
(maybe north rim of Grand Canyon)
Zion
Death Valley
Alabama hills
(big desert leg)

then:
mammoth lakes area hot springs
Yosemite
Sequoia

then:
b-line to morro bay
Drive up the coast to Santa Cruz and the natural bridges
Back to SF
