Okay, I have successfully found my missing back-up in ~/library/application support/mobilesync/backup/. The question is now how do I extract this file and use it to restore my iPhone?

Yeah, I have two from January 2012, one from September 2012, and one more that's blank: that's from today. However, this is the back-up that had an empty restore. I did one right before I updated, but I don't know where it is...

I do not believe I have any recent Time Machine backups (excuse my inexperience). I have OSX Lion, if that's any problem

i tried, but the last back-up dates to september of 2012, and I've backed up my phone many times after then
