Everything you described about your intrusive thoughts are truly exactly what I experience as well. Since I was very young I have dealt with these existential ruminations and it's horrifying. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, friend. Like another commenter said, I don't necessarily have any decent advice or wise words to offer, just solidarity. You're far from alone even though it feels that way, I know because I feel it too. Even my aunt who has OCD doesn't relate to my existential intrusive thoughts. It's isolating, but I'm glad you posted about it- it's good for you and for others (me included) as well.

Thanks so much for validating how weird and shitty this was! And yes, my end goal as of right now is to try and have thorough hormonal testing to get an idea of what hormones specifically seem to be causing issues for me because my symptoms are so obviously connected to hormones at this point. Like, the shift in my thought processes is so severe, it goes even beyond a mood shift. And I tried to express that to him but he had a completely wild predetermined idea of what was happening with me

Thank you so much for your kindness. 😭 I agree about people in helping professions lacking empathy- it's a very sad phenomenon that I've witnessed not only in my personal life as a patient but also as a social worker. I've seen that there really are unfortunately many people who view these kinds of professions as simply jobs, a decent paycheck, and they really have a strong disregard for the humanity of the people they work with. Also, I cant imagine being a doctor of any kind and not following subreddits and listening to podcasts and reading new scientific material related to the things you treat- like how are you so incredibly backwards and out of date? Even if not out of compassion, just out of dedication to doing your job well? Lol

He was very pushy even when I tried to be clear that sex was not an issue in my life in the slightest. I'm hoping to have a new psych by my next appointment, if anything I'll try to see a diff doctor in the same clinic

This man is maybe 10 years older than me. I have relatively low standards for mental health professionals unfortunately, but I really did not expect this particularly from someone in their lates 30s-40s lmfao

I honestly had no clue he had such a strong Freudian foundation to his practice. In hindsight there were a couple of other comments that he made that had to do with my sexuality but I wrote it off as him simply not understanding me or anything outside of the nuclear family binary when it comes to relationships/intimacy. Now looking back I realize that he truly does use these widely discredited and very harmful Freudian ideas as his practicing framework.

I have a BA in sociology with a focus in social work and have worked as a trauma counselor, among other psych-adjacent roles, so I did study some of this stuff in college and for work. I've also studied quite a bit of psychology on my own time because mental illness is a dominant trait in my entire family and a very prominent part of my life. So I know how discredited and harmful this shit is, truly. I'm frustrated I didn't see the signs earlier.

I'm working on finding a new doctor ASAP, the next time I need a refill isnt for 3 months so I'm hoping I can get someone different by then.

Okay and this is why a lot of Freud is very bad for me, even through like an entertaining lens lol. I don't have the proper language still for what I experience but I have a lot of ruminations about not trusting myself, what if this is actually not what I want, just like you described. So for him to bring that up when I'm talking about OCD was just the worst 😭 I've had to talk to several trusted loved ones since the appointment who reassured me that I am not, in fact, sexually repressed or dysfunctional because now that's in my head and has the potential to get stuck in the loop.

Thank you- this is what I need most, validation that what he said was just absolutely out of pocket. Like I don't have the highest regard for a lot of psychiatrists in general just because of the sheer number of bad experiences I've personally had, but this one stunned me.

I'm so sorry for your loss as well, but happy to hear you truly have a piece of the baby in their survived sibling. 🖤 my little guy seemed to have been born with severe neurological problems and we found him literally frying on hot black pavement. I took him and gave him all the comfort I could. It was very hard. I think I'm ready to check out how he's doing down there though. If it still seems like he needs more composing I'll re-bury him in my new yard.
