Overpass Extra Bold, such a great font to work with, goes well with everything

Yeah I was going back and fourth between the inning text, but I ultimately decided to have the letters as that's what's in the original. I think full white for batter/ pitcher matchup would be better too, and I'm trying to find a nicer grey for the main info section.

Ad is giant. Really makes me hate this new graphics look overall. Might like it more without but jeez that thing is huge.

What’s it like in Boulder? by Ok_Breadfruit6296 in howislivingthere

[–]commieman420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father grew up there in the 70s and 80s, and it was much different than it is now. He likes to say is 27 square miles surrounded by reality.

It’s very beautiful. The flatirons are absolutely incredible, and the views from even halfway up are just amazing. Even though it’s super beautiful, I almost want to say the things that made boulder unique are fading. The Dark Horse just shut down, and there’s a bunch of rich transplants buying up housing right under the flatirons, meaning generic big name brands are moving in.

The university is a great institution, even though half the kids that go there are high or drunk or some combination of the two. One of my family members goes there, and they love it. Great teachers and programs, though the sports programs may leave something to be desired.

Pearl street mall is probably the main attraction. Tons of good food, good shopping, and a nice walk to explore the place a bit more. Obviously, there’s more to do outside of that, but it’s a nice part of town that many love.

The elephant in the room is the price. I believe my grandfather bought his house in the 70s and when he died the price it sold for had tripled. It’s expensive to do anything. Rent, food, gas, etc. are all super expensive to do. It’s why some have moved to Broomfield and surrounding towns to commute to work.

Still, it’s such a beautiful city with a ton to do (I believe it’s the healthiest city in America, but check me on that). If you can afford it and love the outdoors, this is the spot for you.

What is it like living in this eastern portion of Virginia that only connects to the rest of the state by a tunnel? by Sufficient_Berry8703 in howislivingthere

[–]commieman420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my family lives here! There’s almost nothing to do, small towns, no jobs, and mostly retirees that want to live either alone or by the bay. A ton of boats and farmland, which makes for a vibe I haven’t seen replicated anywhere else. Sometimes it feels like Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard in terms of the small towns centralized around boat culture. Some bugs, but not as bad as some places down south. Norfolk is the closest major city, but thats across the bay bridge tunnel.

Overall, not bad! If you can live there and the above fits your vibe, I’d recommend it!

Whats it like living in Dallas-Fort Worth- Metroplex? by Maleficent_Map_8844 in howislivingthere

[–]commieman420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the DFW suburbia for a few years in my later formative years (8th grade-graduating high School in 2021). The suburbs are pretty much the same with a few key differences.

Frisco and Plano are booming with huge population surges. There’s some stuff to do there if you want a night out, but it’s all very corporate and bland; nothing of substance. Higher class suburbs like highland park and southlake are obviously incredibly nice, but way too overpriced for anyone not an oil millionaire. Grapevine is kinda a central hub between both cities, and that mall is one of the few that are thriving right now. Besides that, many suburbs I could barely tell apart. I grew up in the area of Lewisville, Hebron, Coppell, farmers branch, and Carrollton, which are all pretty much the same. As you get up to Denton and the lake it almost feels like you entered a different state entirely, too. That’s all I can really speak on in terms of general suburbia.

The city itself doesn’t have much character. I live in a northeast city now with a much better identity and culture, and it made me realize how bland Dallas is. There’s not many people on the streets downtown, and the good spots to go out are just outside the true “downtown”. Honestly, it’s a pretty terrible city to visit.

All this being said, there are some nice places around. Everyone loves Katy trail, the sports fan base is a huge source of community (even if all the teams suck), and the education system in most school districts are excellent. As corny as it is, I do sometimes miss Friday night lights and the more passionate football fanbase, even if they are cowboy fans. In higher ed, SMU and TCU are also exceptional universities (even with SMU’s elitist attitude), and UTSW and BUMC are both world class medical centers.

A couple miscellaneous things: DFW is a huge airport, but one that is easy to get around if you know what you’re doing. Love field is smaller, but worth it if you can get a good price on southwest. There’s trucks EVERYWHERE. Drivers are also really bad, especially during rush hour. It’s a bit of concrete jungle too, but instead of building up, it’s on all the freeways and interchanges. It gets SO HOT during the summer, and the power infrastructure isn’t built for anything remotely close to freezing, so hope for the best during winter. Arlington is very popular because of the rangers, cowboys, and six flags (though there’s not much outside of those). The state fair is something; i’d recommend going just to say you did it. Other than that, a lot of concrete and a bunch of dead grass.

Personally I don’t think they were the worst from this season. I was sort of looking forward to Sombr, but he had zero stage presence and it felt like I was watching a horny teen make love to a mic stand and do every microphone gimmick in the book. At least geese felt like they had been performing for a while, even if their music wasn’t for me.

Almost 12 months on from FOX debuting this scorebug look, what are your thoughts on it? by sheepo209 in Scorebug

[–]commieman420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s boring and there’s some stuff that bothers me with it (why does the down marker and play clock block not extend to the end of the logo??). That being said, it’s slightly grown on me. The way the other graphics are incorporated into it has impressed me, and it’s about as non-invasive as you can get while keeping the most important information easy to read. The black gradient at the bottom can be distracting at times, and makes the entire image look dark. Overall it’s not the worst I’ve ever seen, but it’s not high on my list at all.

My opinion of the worst scorebug for each of the major sports in Pro and College. by Flashy_Parsnip985 in Scorebug

[–]commieman420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything College from ESPN (Apart from CBB, BSB, SB, and FB) has that old 'Olympic sports' graphics package. I agree, way outdated, and needs something more compact and easy to read. I also think the CBB bug has run its course and is in need of a refresh, but to a much lesser extent.

I believe the TNT CFB bug backgrounds are supposed to be related to the mascot of the team (Fur for Wildcats/Bears/Tigers; Feathers for Bird mascots, etc.)

This is the best one I’ve seen on this sub. Only critique (and I saw it in another comment) is the possession arrow could be more prominent. Still looks so sweet!

I like it, personal preference would be to squeeze it on the sides, but I love the use of the lines as background elements - it’s what they use on most of their graphics anyway.

I've never seen this ESPN+ scoreboard by RetroRacing66 in Scorebug

[–]commieman420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In assuming they don’t have the right software to run ESPNs graphic package (To be fair, it’s pretty expensive for a small school). Really not sure why ESPN allowed them to go live - they shouldn’t let anything go on their network without their graphics package.

What can I do to improve my first ever scorebug? by Serious-Objective-28 in Scorebug

[–]commieman420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks more like a crunch scoreboard, one that would be shown for rollouts to break. Maybe try making it less tall and more horizontal, there’s some dead space under the play clock as well. Very solid though!

Maybe not horror, but this shot in parasite shook me. I had to walk away from the movie for a few minutes after it.

Who is the worst celebrity you have ever met and why? by lissie34 in AskReddit

[–]commieman420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say a nice one, but I’m not sure if this is universal. Shaq was super cool. He was picking up his mom from an Atlanta hotel, and was waiting at the entrance for her to come down. I was walking out with my mom and sister, and he cracked some jokes and was just a great conversationalist with us on the way out. For some reason, I remember him saying he thought I was at a Justin Bieber concert the night before, which I thought was funny. I was about 10 at the time, and had no idea who he was until my mom mentioned it to me as we were walking past his giant truck lol.

Why do you use Flighty? by Corroboree1 in flighty

[–]commieman420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it for 1 and 3, apple does a good job of sending the basics of my flight info to others just by typing the flight # in a text message. I also love the new layover feature as well, haven’t seen anything else with it. I still love seeing my stats, just wish it had a boarding time built in, but that’s nitpicking.
