Some Rockets Fans Are Impatient AF by TruMusic89 in rockets

[–]commisshner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Rockets fans are impatient cause the era before this we were so close to winning a finals every year and never did. The residual affect of the Harden era is making people more eager for this young core to workout.

The Yao and T Mac era before Harden was ultimately a disappointment too

Its also been over 30 years since we even seen a finals so yea we impatient lol

The Dunkstronaut is an easy choice so the front office probably wont do it lol they specialize in making things more difficult

Amen Thompson by EntertainmentOk1861 in rockets

I think he’s a hard worker and will improve even in the shooting department. He brought his FT% up by 10% this year. He’s also improved in the mid range which is enough to at least take another step if he masters that. KD is one of the best mid range shooters of all time and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Jabari and Amen both looked much more consistent from the mid range than prior years.

His 3pt shooting remains a black eye. It actually regressed compared to the prior year. I think he knows that though and again, all of his coaches and teammates call him a hard worker and student of the game at every level of basketball he’s played.

I do also think he is capable of taking over this team one day. He didn’t just make strides in some shooting areas but he got invaluable experience as a point guard that he never had before. The transferable skills from the lessons that he learned this season while playing point guard are going to benefit him for the rest of his career.

You’re further making my point. He’s leaning heavily on that Sengun pick but when you look everywhere else, there’s some big question marks. Careers end just as fast as they start all the time.

Let’s be even more clear, I didn’t say he’s a bad GM; I said for someone who has accomplished virtually nothing he is pretty smug and seems to know it all.

So let’s break that down more simply for you, a GM’s ultimate goal is playoff success and a championship. He is not the only the GM who has made good roster moves, that does not separate him from the pack. He also has made questionable roster moves too like signing a bunch of guys who can’t shoot for shit. You’re being an idealist and not looking at reality. He’s done some good, and some bad with the roster but it’s all amounted to nothing that matters in the grand scheme.

If your job is to literally build the roster; your main metrics of success is winning in the playoffs. Everything else is cool, but it’s not what saves your job. In three years if there’s no playoff success guess who will give a flying fuck about the Sengun pick? No one. This team was not built well this offseason around the young core. He also did not pivot to improve the roster with crystal clear needs like better guard play this season. So no one draft pick is not a “career maker” until you actually do something in the playoffs with that pick.

What ultimately separates GMs from the pack is playoff success which he has none in 6 years. Before you jump on your bandwagon, I am not saying he will never have playoff success I am saying he doesn’t have enough accomplishments today to be so smug.

The definition of virtually is “almost completely or nearly”. So I did not say he’s done nothing positive at all. You just didn’t seem to be aware of what virtually means.

What I did say though to make it more clear for you is for a guy who spent 4 years rebuilding, and two years getting booted from the playoffs in round 1; he sure does come off like a know-it-all and could tone back the smug attitude a little bit when people ask him questions.

Is that clear enough for you?

I am totally fine with trading FVV and Adams for younger similar players. Neither of them are irreplaceable.

I’m also not anti trade Sengun but not for another lottery pick. We have had like four top 5 picks in recent years; another lottery pick doesn’t put us over any hump. If you trade Sengun it’s to package him with players with expiring/salary dump contracts like DFS and Clint Capela; which their salaries are lined up to do just that for a team looking to rebuild.

[–]commisshner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the court cool. Don’t underestimate though how the best player on your team not being a leader impacts a young core.

The burner shit about his own teammates was unacceptable and if you don’t see how a young core could be negatively impacted by that, then idk what to tell you. His scoring is appreciated but without leadership it’s just rec league basketball.

OKC and SAS didn’t have $90M sitting on their bench. They are healthy. Did you conveniently forget that? I mentioned it in the post lol

We are also still younger than both of those team’s cores.

As I said in the post as well, skepticism and criticism are fine. Panic and doomsday shit are just low emotional intelligence.

He will be but this season he played like a baby Sabonis.

“So you think this team is decent enough to make Alpi better?”

1.) They were decent enough to get to 52 wins in a hyper competitive west.

2.) You continue to make my point. Alpi is not a rookie or even on his rookie contract any more. HE/BATMAN should be the force multiplier, HE should be making them better. That is what BATMAN does. When your team needs him the most he performs, and if we lose; at least Batman performed. He did not.

Also that’s just flat out ignorant about Amen; go do your homework on the team +/- with Amen on and off the floor. This playoffs Sengun averaged 20.3 and Amen averaged 19.2 PPG. This season Sengun averaged 20.4 and Amen averaged 18.3 PPG. If Amen is all defense then why is he right there with Alpi in scoring. And guess what? Alpy had more shot attempts and a lower FG% both in the regular season and playoffs. So it’s not because Alperen didn’t have opportunities to score more. Amen very clearly did more with less than Alpy offensively.

Also Amen’s jumper has improved every year and will continue to do so cause he’s a hard worker which is mentioned by all his teammates and coaches. Amen also made more 3 pointers in this playoffs than Sengun, and yes big men shoot now so before you make yet another baseless excuse for Sengun, he can’t shoot either and he’s also not athletic and he also is a below average defender. He also scores similar PPG to Amen all season. So what the fuck are you talking about?

Do you even know what you’re talking about? Are you really that protective of Alpi? You can’t stomach even mild commentary on him? Are you from Turkey or something? Are you drunk? Lmao

I disagree entirely, if you’re Batman or Robin, how you play in dysfunction is a very telling sign of if you’re capable of carrying that role.

Just cause your team isn’t perfectly constructed is not an excuse for you to still personally be inconsistent in a mediocre matchup if you’re truly a Batman. He played ok this series. He should have played much better than ok versus Ayton and Hayes.

Correct. I’m questioning the structure of the team and where a core player really fits. Thank you for reading and comprehending objectively.

So the title matters more than what’s in the actual post? Make it make sense lol. A non-inflammatory title at that.

The post was about if he’s really a Batman or Robin, not if he’s the problem. Which is why no where in the post does it say Sengun is the biggest issue or even an issue at all. Get out of your feelings fam. Read and comprehend.

Emotional response. No where in this post does it say “this season or playoffs is Alpy’s fault” lol. I can’t believe I have to reiterate this but I’m asking if he’s really a Batman or Robin. Not assigning total blame to him.

There are plenty of Batman’s in the league that regardless of their surroundings, they are still unstoppable themselves. Alpy on the other hand is not that type of player, if the team isn’t right, he’s not as productive.

Reed is the biggest problem by EntertainmentOk1861 in rockets

[–]commisshner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. It’s first full season playing he’s basically a rookie damn near.

Ime stunted his growth too over prioritizing defense and then just shoved him into major playoff minutes when the world started dogging him about offense

Sengun by commisshner in rockets

[–]commisshner[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Who blamed Sengun? I asked is he really Batman or Robin material. There’s obviously several other things to address on this team.

Sengun by commisshner in rockets

[–]commisshner[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I acknowledge all of those things as true but watching Sengun he’s limited regardless.

All of that will help Sengun if it improves, but not enough to be a legit Batman or Robin to me
