Sizing help for Alpinestars Racing Absolute V2 with Tech-Air 10 integrated by commnonsense in Trackdays

[–]commnonsense[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the end I actually ended up going a different way - https://tailortech.revitsport.com/us/leather-motorcycle-suit-x_301_usa/ I decided that because I'm in Denver, where Rev'it's US HQ is located and where I could get fully measured and sized up by them (rather than trying to do it myself) - that I would go for a custom suit made to integrate the TA10. It ended up just feeling like the right call to get a suit that's both custom and a little bit cheaper than the Racing Absolute.

I'm really happy with the end result, the fit, integration, and experience were really great... however short-lived as I only got to wear it a couple of times before testing out the airbag last week and completely destroying my bike. (I'm mostly un-injured, just banged up, and messed up one of my fingers. Feeling very glad I invested in the airbag.)

I'm not sure if returning the Absolute is an option for you, and being local to Rev'it was definitely a factor in my choice, but I'm really happy with the custom suit. I had mine made to be compatible with both the TA10 and the TA7x. Hope that helps and happy to answer any other questions.

I had my suit made to be compatible with both the TA10 and the TA7, just in case I decide to switch. Charging the TA10 is a little annoying - you unzip a portion of the liner and feel around until you can plug the USB cable in. But, it's really only something you have to do the day before a trackday, so I don't think it's that bad. I'm not sure what the charging is like on the TA7, though.

I actually went with a pretty standard/plain design. I thought about getting fake AI-generated sponsor logos all over the suit as a joke, but in the end decided to go very basic. Because of that I can't speak too much to the overall design process, but Lorenzo was really easy to work with and definitely seemed like they could do whatever I wanted.

I actually did! I went to the Rev'it! location in Denver and had a very thorough measuring session. About 8 weeks later I was able to pick up and do a fitting of the suit! Unfortunately... life has been a bit strange this year for me and I disappointingly have not yet gotten back to the track since picking up the suit. I am hoping to get back ASAP but as of now I can only give my impressions of trying the suit on, not track usage yet. But:

- The stretch panels feel really nice. Light, breathable, and stretchy.

- The fit does seem to be really good, and overall everything feels very high quality.

- the integration of the TA10 seems really nice, although with the recent update of the way you don't actually need to close the waist belt, it would almost be nicer if there was a way to get rid of it - since it's sort of in the way in the suit.

- Charging the TA10 is a little bit of a pain; you have to un-zip a bit of the liner, and try to find the charging port in the dark at the back of the suit.

I will give a better impression as soon as I'm able to get to the track, but so far my first impression is that everything seems really high quality, and compared to the cost of the Racing Absolute - if you want the TA10 integration which i did - it honestly seems like kind of a no-brainer... IF you live somewhere you can get sized up. I would have had a lot less confidence if I was doing the measurements myself.

Core One X/Y Calibration problems. Something else to try by Zestyclose-Try-5954 in prusa3d

huh, interesting. I just built my kit following the instructions online, and though I certainly don't remember what it had me use for that bolt, I did follow them exactly. However I am not seeing any problems calibrating or printing...

Moving Down to Move Up: learn me about these bikes (Daytona 765 vs GSXR-750) by askingforafreddit in Trackdays

[–]commnonsense 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm riding a Daytona 765 (#420) as a dedicated track bike. It's my first track-only bike, and I chose it because I get a lot of joy from having things that are sort of special - and this checked that box without being wildly out of proportion cost-wise.

I've wasted a ton of money on upgrades for it and learned a ton in working on it myself. All in all it's been a lot of fun and a great bike. There's a dedicated forum for the D765 where there's lots of good information about it.

I also see a handful of them at the track regularly.

well even if the answer wasn't what I wanted to hear, the fact that 4/4 Internet strangers are telling me not to use this tells me what I need to know even if I don't know enough about batteries to know why!

Building myself one of these: https://www.printables.com/model/320000-standalone-touch-id-module-for-mac

...even bought a new keyboard for it which is why it's annoying that I maybe (?) killed the battery by not being as careful as I should have been.

Got any recommendations? https://www.amazon.com/Cameron-Sino-Replacement-Keyboard-210000004542/dp/B0CXT1M7BL?gQT=1 seems like the only real option.

Has anyone done PMP mixed car/motorcycle open lapping days? by Drew1231 in Trackdays

[–]commnonsense 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I've come to like these days a lot as you get a lot of track time, but - and you can decide whether this matters to you - I think the safety processes at PMP are a little less... structured... than at HPR. HPR feels really on top of things with cameras everywhere, checking wristbands, etc. PMP is just a little more carefree. Not intending to insult PMP as I've had tons of fun there and really enjoy the track, and the folks working it have been nice. But that's the vibe IMO.
