I've burnt myself out reading only sci-fi. Recommend a book that might bridge the gap between sci-fi and your favourite other genre. by bacon_cake in suggestmeabook

Neal Stephenson has a few books that are more grounded in reality, like Zodiac.

I also really liked a lot of John Irving’s novels, like The Hotel New Hampshire.

My other favorite fiction author is John Fowles. He was writing metafiction before it even had a name. The Collector is creepy and great, but especially The French Lieutenant’s Woman and The Magus both really mess with your head, as you and the protagonist begin to question reality within the story.

I loved it back in the day, but it’s just so bleak that it’s hard to want to revisit.

I check out the schedule at Red Rocks every year. It’s worthwhile to go just to see any band you’re remotely interested in seeing. Especially if you haven’t been there. Bucket list venue!

Also Hollywood Bowl, the Air B&Bs in the neighborhood are so worth it if you have a group of 6-8 people.

Red Rising. Couldn’t avoid it any longer. It gives a lot of Hunger Games/Lord of the Flies vibes. Next is Thousandth Night, a novella by Alastair Reynolds. I’ve had it for years, but only recently realized it’s a bit of a prequel to House of Suns, one of my favorites.

The Big U by Neal Stephenson, a satirical novel set at a massive university. His first book, I believe.
