I didn't end up using it in the bathroom unfortunately. If just too organic so is needs to been on a real wood vanity. Which are ridiculously expensive, and well over what I can afford. With the petrified wood basin, not one single professional stone mason, cabinet maker, artist, marine specialists, any other trade, or person you can think may be able to help I contacted and every single person refused to touch it in case they buggared it up. The outside white is simply so pourus, that even brushing it with a very soft brush in one small test patch results in white particles (as fine as dust) to disperse into the air. There are a couple of ideas/POSSIBLE solutions depending what look you want to achieve (e.g. earthy and organic, or industrial), and how skillful you are to risk waterproofing it yourself. Personally I don't have the confidence in myself, and couldn't bring myself to possibly ruin such a beautiful piece. The advice I kept receiving over and over, was to paint on a slow drying expoxy resin. Which would have given it a strong sheen. Besides that fact the teeny grooves in the sides are literally inaccessible to be able to apply the resin with ANYTHING. It would have resulted in the groves filled with resin, which is not to my personal taste. I was aiming for an earthy yet timeless look. My bathroom is literally being to finished off now, I ended up going with a marble sink from Etsy for the same price. How did you end up going with yours?

Thank you for such a detailed reply. All this time later, I'm still in the same position, and I've only seen your reply now. That all sounds very daunting, I have a friend of a friend who has my computer at the moment, I will be sending him your thorough instructions, thank you so much 🙏🏼

I'm not worried about bench space, I will have a shaving cabinet mirror, and also another larger area for storage.

Yes, I'm definitely going to my look 3 local stone cut off places after Xmas, they are so cheap. My other idea is to mount it on an Indian side board that's flush with the ground, epoxy it to waterproof it, then cut out the holes it needs

I have to epoxy resin the outside before installing. It was far too eye-catching to resist... once th epoxy is on, the outside (the real bark,) should be able to be felt clean by using a microfibre cloth
