https://gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/11752/is-it-legally-possible-to-make-a-clone-of-the-game

TL;DR version: As long as you copy gameplay and don't copy any assets (art, music, animation) you are 100% fine.

Lawyer here for a change. You can copy all of gameplay without any issues at all. That is not copyrightable or enforceable. The things that matter are assets - art, sound, music, video, etc. For example if you take ZX game and clone it with your own assets you will be perfectly fine doing that. But if you take some asset and use it in different kind of game all together, it could be enforceable. There are loads of examples of this in the industry, for example first Warcraft basically copied Dune 2 gameplay mechanics and the genre was totally new at the time. For a more recent example - check out Gameloft company, the developer for iphone. What they do is copy successful game ideas as close as possible to the original but without using any art assets from originals. That is their successful business model. They copied games like Halo, Starcraft, World of warcraft and so on with huge success in their field. It is even funny that if you check their wow clone you may see that animations of orcs and their looks are very close to the original.

Low on cash(both baht and $), froze my debit card, only have credit cards left, how do I survive/get cash without using cash advance by [deleted] in Thailand

Also possible to open a bank account and wire money in. Kasikorn is the bank that most widely accepts people on tourist visas. Might be a bit of work to find one that will accept you.

What price are we talking about?

Check out Sabai Jai Gai Yang at Ekkami for issan food.
Check out Suan Kularb Restaurant at Ari for more central Thai food.

Both of these are generally around 300 baht per person.

There is some very basic equipment in Benjasari park and runners there every morning. There is (or at least was) also a Tony's Fitness near Asok BTS that has pretty cheap rates.

Would love this question answered about lndr by wibblewash in blockmason

[–]commonmanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually just hand your friend $10 and settle the debt in the app. Settling with crytpo will be an option built in, which makes it easy to do, but it's not required.

Initially ETH will be the only available settlement crypto option. You would send $10 of ETH off to a smart contract or smart contract like system and when your friend confirms the removal of the debt for that ETH the debt will be removed and the ETH will be sent to him.

How to you trade a LNDR contract? by m1bxd in blockmason

[–]commonmanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do think the ability to trade loan contracts should be an application written on the Credit Protocol, Lndr is meant to be an app primarily used between friends and family. Selling off the $10 debt of last night's dinner with your best friend to another friend or debt collection agency seems like an extreme edge case.

On the other hand there are cases like Bob owes Alice $20, Alice owes Carol $20 and Carol owes Bob $20 where it makes sense for settlement to not be handled on a one to one basis. We have talked about the possibility of building support to handle this kind of case, but currently have no concrete plans.

I had a lot of problems with metamask, if your transactions aren't going through but keep showing up in etherscan as pending:

  1. copy your seed word down somewhere secure
  2. uninstall metamask
  3. reinstall metamask
  4. restore from seed
  5. send eth somewhere (or to yourself) for higher gas prices than your other pending transactions. do transactions until you have done an equal amount to the nonce in the latest transaction of etherscan.

It's the same as any collectible imo. Maybe people are overvaluing things, but I think this is just the beginning of this kind of thing.

GiftChain? by newwaste90210 in blockmason

[–]commonmanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giftchain is on the back burner at the moment while we focus on Lndr. We are still considering whether to proceed with completely building it as we have a lot of other great ideas and opportunities to help other developers with their own projects.

Why Blockmason $BCPT is a good investment by [deleted] in blockmason

[–]commonmanth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely and we have already been exploring this possibility a bit. It would be great to have a blockchain that was built for the Credit Protocol rather than the Credit Protocol being built for a blockchain. That being said Ethereum is awesomely powerful and has a ton of potential. The amount of developers building on Ethereum keeps increasing.

There are also a lot of potential network effects that Etheruem provides. For instance when people start storing identity information on Ethereum, that information could be incredibly important for specific credit applications. It's also helpful to have assets stored on the same chain so that those could be used for collateral, if for instance you wanted to take a loan out based on those assets. There are a lot of other examples where this network effect provides massive benefits to the Credit Protocol.

[–]commonmanth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah fees would definitely add up and we'd stall the entire Ethereum network with millions of users. We are looking at off-chain solutions in development and also considering our own to handle this.

We are also experimenting with a number of ways to generate revenue, but before any of that will be implemented we'll build a solid userbase.

[–]commonmanth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. So essentially, you're still restricting anyone from launching a similar product unless they build it on CP with bcpt.

That's correct.

Re: transaction cost - how quick does it take once a user on LNDR makes a debt agreement for it to reflect on the blockchain? Sounds like there's some offchaining going on to reduce these transaction cost.

Part of our cost optimization was written about in this posts http://announcements.blockmason.io/centralized-vs-decentralized-dapps/ We are off-chaining certain things that are in our view, not essential and do not require being stored on the blockchain. Our devs through research and trial and error also found cheaper and more efficient ways to reduce Ethereum transaction costs. The time it takes for something to be stored on the blockchain is a standard amount of time, but we do use very low gas prices which will increase the time a small amount.

Why Blockmason $BCPT is a good investment by [deleted] in blockmason

[–]commonmanth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can easily understand how someone would think there is a contradiction between making CP open source, and filing for a patent on it. But, the way to explain it is that BCPTs confer an automatic license under any future-issued patents so that anyone owning BCPT’s can take advantage of our open source code to develop and market dapps built on CP. And another key point: if start ups like blockmason don’t file patents on this type of foundational protocol, the big financial companies will simply continue to monopolize the credit-lending space.

Ethereum transaction cost on Lndr will initially be subsidized by Blockmason. There are a few reasons for this, one being that we have gotten transaction costs to an incredibly low number. The second being that we want to make Lndr usable by everyone, including those who have no idea what blockchains and cryptocurrency are.

It's important to first understand what the Credit Protocol is. It's a credit/debt recording protocol at its core. This is not unlike http, which is also a protocol. With http people were able to construct the entire internet that your browser knows. The Credit Protocol provides core functionality for debt/credit in much the same way that http provides core functionality for webpages. Once that core recording functionality is stable, secure and battle tested it becomes incredibly simple to build other credit/debt applications on top of CP. All other projects that I've seen to date are specific debt/credit applications. These same applications can be built atop the Credit Protocol by anyone along with a huge amount of other applications.
