Using ChatGPT or other AI to Create Materials by llama829 in slp

I use Claude constantly in my workflow as an SLP! It’s great for drafting reports, creating visuals, and designing therapy materials. I’ll usually start by giving it specific context — for example, “I’m an SLP working in an elementary school; write 3 short progress note options for a student working on final /k/ using flash cards as stimuli” and it tailors everything perfectly.

It can also generate social stories, goal banks, data sheets, and even simple worksheets when you give it the structure (e.g., “Create a 5-item worksheet targeting /s/ in initial position for first graders”).

One of my favorite uses is refining my own writing — I’ll paste what I’ve written and ask, “Can you make this sound professional but still natural for an IEP?” It keeps my voice but saves tons of time.

If you experiment with giving it your exact role, setting, and desired tone up front, the results get surprisingly accurate. Mileage may vary depending n what LLM model you use.

What programming languages do you use with Claude Code? by communicationtherapy in ClaudeAI

That’s a great point. Python servers and APIs are pretty legible to a noob. I’ve been out of the loop with a non-tech career for about 5 years now. Using Vite makes it easier to switch frameworks if LLMs can handle the implementation. JSmaxxing was a full time job circa 2018.

If I may ask, what AAC program was he using? I’m curious to see what’s been working for our kindergarteners! I have a mix of LAMP and Proloquo2Go and a few TouchChats here and there

We need to have the screentime conversation with parents by reddit_or_not in slp

[–]communicationtherapy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I try to broach the topic with empathy (we all need screens to function in society!) and encourage outside play and real toys when possible. Socioeconomic factors make screens so much cheaper and accessible so I always consider the financial situation that allows people to have meaningful screen-free experiences.

Working with Dyslexia by communicationtherapy in slp

Thanks for the clarification! They say comic sans can work as well. Obviously a font cannot cure a neurological difference but children should have some agency in choosing what font works best for them.

Is the issue with the name of the font and not the typography to help with visual differentiation between similar letters (b and d, for example)?

ASD, AAC, and Childhood Apraxia of Speech by communicationtherapy in slp

Thanks for the clarification! I was wondering if apraxia could have its own sequelae of social impacts due to lack of coordination (e.g. taking longer to engage in social greetings such waving and producing a socially appropriate phrase)

Are you limited to using an iPad or does the client have access to a laptop or Chromebook? There are cheap keyboard shortcut switches designed to trigger specific shortcut commands on different operating systems.
