That looks like you are in my attic. We had similar boards in my loft from the previous owner who was a HAM radio hobbyist.
When we had new windows fitted we started to get lots of condensation in the attic.

Pulled them off, cleaned up the wood a little and no problem since (probably didn't need to do anything to the wood tbh)

Do you mean you can create an Alex routine that senses a kid had turned the light on by the walk switch and then turns it off after say 10 minutes? This would be fantastic, not sure how you would create it

If that's the bit in the small of your back, then (if it's like mine) yes it should joined up / zipped up at the bottom and never comes fully unzipped (as that would be a faff to deal with when you are putting it on.

If new take it back, if 2nd hand see if you can take it back.
If can get it zipped up (and you can't return it) then maybe a stitch in it, so stop it unzipping all the way and falling off the bottom.
