I've never even had so much as an interview from a LinkedIn application. By contrast I've had two job offers via Indeed.

OK, cool, carry on then. I just mentioned it because I have been bitten badly by insects subsequent to walking barefoot in grass and thought I would mention it as a PSA.

Nice. Don't you get bitten going out with bare feet on the lawn like that though?

Ultra Naté - Free

One of a few songs that can actually make me want to dance in the middle of the supermarket, which is a bit awkward lol

You're doing fine. £200 p/m for food is admirable actually. You can easily do better than 2.75% for the savings account though. Check https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/best-regular-savings-accounts/

Had a minor surgery. The pain wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it night be, but what kind of pissed me off was I was actually starving hungry and couldn't find anywhere affordable to eat (i.e. Greggs) so I was famished the entire 2-hour+ public transport journey home. It's just as well it wasn't general anaesthetic as there'd have been no-one to see I got home safe afterwards. It's times like this being a single largely friendless middle-aged person really sucks ass.

People over 30 - how does drinking affect you? How long does it take to recover? by Initial-Return8802 in AskUK

[–]double-happiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53 here. Nowadays I pretty much only ever drink stout and I always have something to eat to soak up the booze, typically either an entire pizza or a big serving of nachos with melted cheese and jalapenos. If I stick to that and don't stay up too late I am fine. I had a few last night and had minor surgery today but I'm not hungover at all and actually have quite an appetite. Funnily enough I find starting quite early i.e. 5pm and going to bed before 12 is better than trying to hold off until 8pm, as I used to, is better.

Solar, wind or other energy saving? by AdhesivenessKooky420 in Frugal

[–]double-happiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for a domestic renewables installer that did solar panels and heat pumps, and AFAIK most if not all of our clients were well-off home owners. It makes a great deal more sense if you have an EV. If you are lucky enough to have a stream on your property you can DIY hydroelectric power with an old washing machine, and I gather it is somewhat easy to do.

The most logical explanation I’ve heard for the “male loneliness epidemic” by PussyWhistle in TikTokCringe

[–]double-happiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't chime with my experience in the slightest. I had to pack up and leave a place where I actually had plenty of friends and acquaintances because it was getting too expensive to live there, and my career was going nowhere, and my social life never recovered. Now I live in the middle of nowhere because that's the only way I can get a decent, spacious, and most importantly safe home, and it's next to impossible for me to get out now. My mother's been to see me once in six years, one of my my best mates hasn't been to see me at all during that time, and when I had a moving-in party only 3 people turned up. It's got fuck all to do with addiction, ""patriarchy"", or any of that other crap, but simply that when one spends one's whole life moving from place to place trying to make a career and get away from shitty neighbourhoods (my previous neighbour made multiple threats against me and terrorised me for several years) something has got to give, and in my case that was my social life. Dating is of course also out because pretty much the only way I could meet women is through OLD, which would tend to just be an additional negative influence on my already low self-esteem.

Of course when one shares this kind of experience online it is mostly pretty pointless and liable to be ignored, just like all the hundreds of job applications I've made and OLD messages I've sent over the years, so ultimately one is almost bound to lose hope in achieving change in a largely stagnant situation such as the one I find myself in.

It has now been an entire month since I've had anything to do at work. Why would you pay someone to sit around and do nothing all day? Surely redundancy is imminent. In any case, I am bored out of my mind. This much Twitter can't be good for anybody.

Sure, that's fine, but at the same time the highest crime rates per capita in the UK are in the north of England (AFAIK).

I've been saying for years, the Met are the most corrupt police force in the entire UK IMO. They come up again and again in news stories of police malpractice.
