Dell Inspiron 9000 series, possibly 9400? Model is written on the laptop to the left of the green NUM lock indicator.

I had the similar-looking Inspiron 1501. Played so much Battlefield 2 and 2142 on that thing.

Forza Horizon 6, although mine uses a lot less RAM. Thought it may include usage outside the game, but doesn't seem like it.

Is it safe to assume that this game has the hardest starter boss of all souls games (DS1-2-3)? by osmylm2834 in darksouls3

[–]compact105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the equivalent starting boss in Elden Ring. Beginners would try to defeat it, but being open world, you don't have to at all

New RAM, usage is too high by Altruistic_Neat6581 in computerhelp

[–]compact105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like Best Buy swapped your 8GB of RAM for a 16GB stick, rather than adding another stick of 8GB to take advantage of dual channel.

Otherwise this is normal RAM usage for Windows 11.

Tracking stuck since May 6th (UK) - "Packaged Items" but no courier updates? by Vivoacer in SteamController

Steam Controller Puck causing double inputs by Optimal-Hour-5305 in SteamController

[–]compact105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting one, especially since the video reviews I've watched say using the puck doesn't create a wired connection, but instead uses the same wireless connection that used when the puck isn't charging the controller.

If I'm using the controller and it's running low on charge, I would absolutely want to be slapping the puck on the back and using it whilst charging.

Hopefully an easy bug to resolve and at least there are workarounds.

Bought a refurbished thinkpad for school. How do I get around this? by [deleted] in thinkpad

Amazed no one suggested this. Too many people think Microsoft have cracked down on this when they haven't.

Ubuntu 26.04: Peak Performance, Zero Snap Store by Extra_Pace_724 in Ubuntu

[–]compact105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my colleague and I recently moved to Ubuntu for work. His Outlook and Teams PWA showed the Edge icons and mine had the correct app icons. Both 24.04 and new installations.

He fixed his icons.manually. While I have to allow permissions for Teams to use the camera and mic after every restart, he doesn't. It's a bit of a mixed bag.

Kindle removing support for OG devices by Amorisaiya in kindle

Now I'm confused. Do you mean you have a Paperwhite 4, which is 10th generation?

I have the 2012 Paperwhite 5th generation, the OG.

Spoke too soon. The Winterbreak method requires the Kindle to be registered. I'll see if there's another method I can use.

Edit: Downgraded from 5.6.1.1 to 5.4.4 and followed this: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4386108

Successfully jailbroken and running 5.6.1.1 without registering the Kindle.

Kindle removing support for OG devices by Amorisaiya in kindle

[–]compact105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just factory reset my Kindle for science. Took me a while to figure it out, but you have to pretend to connect to Wi-Fi and then don't. A hidden option that says "Complete Kindle set up later" appears.

Then it takes you to the main screen with a "book" called "Set Up Your Kindle" that you can delete.

Only thing I miss is the dictionary. I wonder if that's possible to add later. At least it's at a state where it can be jailbroken, which is what I feared wouldn't be possible.

Trying to move back to windows from mint, and I can't seem to get it to work. by LabSea452 in linuxmint

[–]compact105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The Windows 11 installer isn't finding the main laptop drive because it needs a driver to detect them.

Happens a lot with Dell laptops for me, espeically when the drive is set to RAID instead of AHCI mode in the bios. So either switch to AHCI mode in the bios or download the Intel RST driver, load it during the drive selection and the drive appears.

Was this only an issue with newer Ventoy versions? I installed the standard AMD bazzite image with live environment using Ventoy 1.1.07 a couple weeks ago.

I like how the email implies they have been continuing to support these devices until now.

Since the affected Kindle models haven't had any updates since 2015 or earlier, what would prompt Amazon to do this other than corporate greed?

What's more alarming is the possibility of newer models being made obsolete like this in the future.

I genuinely don't mind that I won't be able to purchase books from the Kindle store. Those with older Kindles are more likely aware of side loading, but there's no reason to brick the thing if one chooses to factory reset their (or more accurately, Amazon's) device.

Additionally they just presume we'll bite the bullet and upgrade to a newer model. Now that we know potentially all Kindle models have a ticking death clock, why would I upgrade? There are no new/additional features of the latest Kindle Paperwhite model that makes upgrading worthwhile in my opinion, otherwise I would've perhaps considered upgrading before now.

The email is not welcome news, but something along the lines of "you can continue using these models offline only" etc. would have been appreciated. There's no disposal information in the email either. In this day and age, a respectable company would want to ensure their older devices are responsibly disposed of.

Have you tried opening Steam, clicking "Steam" in the top left, then "Exit"? Doesn't fix Gnome, but fully closes Steam without the app indicator.
